On the Drop versus On the Rise and Contact Point

LOL, I think my topic was either boring, obvious or unremarkable: I guess what I'm positing is that a descending ball (on the drop) should be hit with a more parabolic (upside down U) trajectory. In the course of play, perhaps a player is not always cognizant of contact point and a low skimmer...

On the Drop versus On the Rise and Contact Point

I am trying to isolate the culprit for the dreaded "skimmed ball" that goes 30 mph half way up the net after you just hit 5 nice rallies 60 mph with 5' feet of net clearance. Is your "on the drop" swing path and contact point going to be different than your "on the rise" swing path and contact...

    Practicing FH to improve 2HBH

This is updated from a couple days ago hitting lefty forehands to better his two handed backhand:

    Practicing FH to improve 2HBH

Which forehand looks dominant to you in the video? He's thinking about giving 2 FHs a try at clinic tonight.

    Practicing FH to improve 2HBH

In the video above my son is practicing a forehand to help his non-dominant arm’s role in his two handed backhand but it’s clearly obvious that the path of the racket is so much different on a FH than a 2 HBH I don’t know if this drill is really helpful. Thoughts?

Two-way miss- swing path too vertical?

This is just an update video. He snapped back and beat a 9.21 UTR this weekend. At first glance in this video, he seems to be hitting well, but based on some of the prior suggestions, I'm thinking he has not completely fixed the high right shoulder??

Would you agree with this? (sorry its 8 minutes but there seems to be some good stuff in this video I think)

Two-way miss- swing path too vertical?

Yes he might be over hitting. Just was looking for something more concrete to tell him then such a general statement This was a year ago v a 10.5 utr His typical play then:

Two-way miss- swing path too vertical?

Hence this post trying to seek out help! But yes thanks for the comments. In his defense he did win that match against a senior 7” taller and 35 lbs heavier that is hitting a big ball.

You're focusing on the follow through to finish, right? Not the takeaway?

Two-way miss- swing path too vertical?

He is struggling with consistency. Dropped from 8.82 three months ago to 8.57 UTR as of this morning. Getting stronger and faster, hitting harder, but the ball is not going in the court. I've apparently ill-advised him to concentrate on his racket drop :censored:, and he has a 2-way miss going.

Two-way miss- swing path too vertical?

Here is another live action shot of the FH in real match play. Its a pretty high net clearance topspin ball. IDK, something does not look right to me but I can't put my finger on it. Versus a 9.2 UTR. The BH missed low in the net, btw.

Here is a real match example: Playing a 9 UTR 6'3" senior.

Two-way miss- swing path too vertical?

So you do NOT want the racket tip pointed any amount down at contact? I notice that Nadal and Nishikori after considerable more racket drop than many others, but at the point of contact, the racket is level, parallel with the ground?

Two-way miss- swing path too vertical?

My son had an awful tennis tournament this weekend. He's a 9 UTR and split sets and almost lost to a 7 UTR, then got crushed 0&2 by an 8 UTR. His misses were either a skimmy, smothered ball in the net or a ball that missed long so much that as soon as it left his racket you knew it had no...

Babolat Pure Aero is 16x19, I do have three Wilson 97LS rackets I think those are 18x16. What is the difference supposed to be from 16x19 to 18x16?

    Durable string suggestion

Answering Posts 37 & 38 here. Yes his footwork as shown in Post 36 is lazy, but I think its decent in the Post #20 video rallying with his coach who is a 14 UTR. As far as two forehands, that video in Post 36 happened to be one that was already on you tube and he was not "training" per se; he...

It’s not like he’s a college player or anything he’s a 15-year-old junior, 9 utr. But the stringer at the club says he breaks much more often than the other 9-10 utrs. Here’s a rally session from last week.

BABOLAT RPM BLAST ROUGH 16g (660 FT) REEL- that’s what I bought last time. He has an hour lesson on Mondays and Wednesdays and he has two hour long clinics on Tuesdays Thursdays. He either has tournaments on the weekends or hits with me. Breaks two strings a week consistently on weeks that...
