    Rare Match: Borg Laver 1976

Given the prevalence of net play back then, the SABR would not have been too uncommon (though keep in mind that I’m only speculating; I didn’t watch back then). The reason it’s often associated with Federer is because he does it in an era dominated mostly by baseline play. It’s not something you...

    Rare Match: Borg Laver 1976

Borg is like 20 here. This would be a bit like Fed playing FAA. That is, if FAA was anywhere near Borg’s level at that age. Very interesting matchup.

Nole fans, which victories are more enjoyable: those against Roger or Rafa?

Depends on which numbers you wish to go with. The matches themselves in the Fedovic rivalry tend to be closer than the matches in the Djokodal rivalry.

Watched Wimbledon 2019 Semifinal again: The curious case of Federer out rallying Nadal in the 3rd set.

I’d still say it’s better than all of their straight set encounters, but it’s their worst four-set match imo. Still a fun one to watch.

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Nadal vs. Mathieu was a really good match as well.

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Yeah but RG 2013 has the Stan-Gasquet match.

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Yeah, if you noticed, that’s why I said early-2017 was great (that is, up until the end of RG), not the whole season. It was fun, but it wasn’t going to last.

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Well, AO and Miami were both great tournaments and the clay season was fairly solid as well... for a clay season. For me, it was really just seeing Federer and Nadal back on the top by playing their newer, more modern games (Federer with his Neo Backhand and Nadal hitting flatter than we’d ever...

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Meh, I thoroughly enjoyed early 2017. Felt like a breath of fresh air. But I do agree that it couldn’t last for long without him.

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Yeah, I agree overall. So far, the best period of the last few years for me was early-2017 (can’t beat a good ol’ Fedal Renaissance) and early-2019 (quite fun imo). Wimby 2018 stands alone as the best of any other period.

Nole fans, which victories are more enjoyable: those against Roger or Rafa?

Statistically, Federer-Djokovic is the closer rivalry. Much less straight-set matches and Fed even leads in overall points won. There have also been periods in which Djokovic accumulated seven-match win streaks against Nadal, which in no way is close. That’s never happened with Federer-Djokovic.
  13. Third Serve

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Yeah, the final is one of the things that USO 3016 did better than those Slams. It was still an okay final, which isn’t enough to compensate for what happened earlier in the tournament.

French Open to allow fans in at 50-60 percent capacity

Unfortunately I have not. Have heard some good things, though.
  15. Third Serve

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

For me, it would have to be USO 2016 despite my being a fan of Wawrinka. For starters, the top 10 was in shambles. Federer was out with injury and Nadal was in poor form. Even Murray who had come off winning Wimbledon disappointed by losing a winnable match to Nishikori. Then you have Djokovic...

Was 2008-12 Federer really weaker than in 2003-07?

The very pinnacle of cherrypicking. You should have eliminated the starting or ending year since you’d have four consecutive years each. Now you just have two different, smaller periods which really adds nothing to this type of discussion. We’re comparing two different periods, not one long...

    Worst Slam you’ve ever watched?

Title says it all. What’s the worst Slam tournament you’ve ever had the misfortune of watching? Maybe you hated the matches, maybe you hated the winner, or maybe because of a reduced field? Some contenders might be USO 2016 and 2017, and AO 2018. What others failed to impress you or even keep...

Was 2008-12 Federer really weaker than in 2003-07?

A few things: How many bad losses did he have in 2004-2007? Heck, he had less losses overall than there are “bad” losses in 2008-2012. Also, you should make it a point to include the rest of the season rather than just Slams. But that wouldn’t look good for your argument anyways.

Nole fans, which victories are more enjoyable: those against Roger or Rafa?

As a die-hard Djokovic fan, I definitely enjoy his wins over Nadal more than his wins over Federer.

    Best sub-1000 match?

I’m sure there have been better, but I quite enjoyed the Fed-Safin Halle match in 2005.

Novak was certainly not playing like an AO GOAT in that final.

I suppose vive can recount many more stories of the imaginjuries of Rafael Nadal.

lmao of course it was that match. When was the time-out, do you remember?

What are your thoughts on Djokovic's 'injury' timeouts?

I don’t think that’s correct. He took an MTO right at the start of the fifth set but he got immediately broken after that.

What are your thoughts on Djokovic's 'injury' timeouts?

I don’t have a huge issue with it, except for one specific occasion. The trick he pulled against Murray in that AO final was not ok.
