He was impressive. Competition wasn’t a bunch of slouches, either.

    Black polys no name/gauge printing.

Isospeed has several popular strings on the market - cream, baseline, the professional and control series, blackfire...to name a few. They’re maybe not as known as some of the more household names, but IME and by most accounts I’ve read, they make good stuff.

    Black polys no name/gauge printing.

I would say as a general statement, the top tier brands seem to label their string, regardless of color - Luxilon and Babolat, for example. With the rest of the mid range and especially budget range mfg’s, string labeling seems more hit and miss - especially with black string. IME one of the...

Why doesn't Prince sell racquets through local tennis shops?

Does anyone know for sure whether or not TW does offer distributor/wholesale accounts to other retailers? My boss gave me the impression that we were unable to open an account with TW. Whether that was on their end or ours I don’t know for sure.

Why did Chang fall off a cliff after 1997?

I would also point out that he changed to a longer racquet later in his career. Which, by itself wasn’t necessarily a bad idea. But then suddenly he was trying to serve bombs and crack winners from everywhere. Guess he had to do something to compensate for his diminishing movement. But the...

Why doesn't Prince sell racquets through local tennis shops?

Last I heard, Prince sold exclusive rights to distribute their tennis products in the US to TW. As pointed out already, Prince was in financial trouble (again).

Did Sampras grunt the least of any pro?

Dude yacked and then hits a second serve ace on a crucial point. Either a heroic effort or playing a little possum. Maybe a bit of both.

    Avoid MyTennisLessons

True, not necessarily. But indeed some clubs do require it before they’ll even consider you for an open position. Others require you to get certified within 6 months of employment. Seems to me to be an increasing trend. I suppose then, if you’re looking to build a client list, that it could...

    Avoid MyTennisLessons

Yup, AFAIK background checks (as part of the SafeSport training I think?) are now a requirement - if you want to maintain your certification with PTR or USPTA. And before people say, “those certifications are useless ripoffs,” at some clubs (like the one where I work) PTR or USPTA certification...

How Rafa Separates Himself From All Other Winners

Frankly, I’m not. Generally, he only tried to break in the latter stages of a set. Otherwise, he took a lot of points (and even games) off.

    Wise vs Gamma

Lemme put it this way. Stringing on a Baiardo at work has effectively spoiled me. If I had never strung on a machine like that, I’d be totally satisfied with the WISE on the Axis Pro I have at home.

    Wise vs Gamma

Well said. I’ll add this. I can string noticeably faster on the Baiardo, without cutting corners - probably 3 or so min faster per racquet. The mounting setup for one is so much easier on the Baiardo. Also, the ergonomics of the Baiardo result in a much happier body (back) after a long stint...

    Wise vs Gamma

If your technique is solid, no I don’t think you’d tell much difference between string jobs on the 2 machines.

    Wise vs Gamma

If you can swing an all in one electronic machine of good quality, versus a standup with a WISE add on, I would strongly recommend the former. I string on a Baiardo at work and an Axis Pro with a WISE at home. Although I’m confident the quality of the string jobs I can produce between the 2...

Never buy an Apple Watch Aluminum

Personally, I like wearing a beater watch on court. I bought a Casio G Shock MT-G for that purpose probably 5 years ago. I’ve hit it, dropped it, got it wet. Nothing. It just keeps going. No battery replacements. It syncs with the atomic clock, so the time is always spot on. Love it.

    First pro to endorse/use Prestige?

Yes, TGK 238.3. A soft variant of the Prestige Pro, if I’m not mistaken. Gotta admit I was a little surprised he switched to Yonex at the time, and I wasn’t so sure it would be a good move for him. Indeed, I was wrong.
