Average and smallest racquet head size on tour

Funny but I've played with a Yonex 98 and a Wilson that was 95 and they really seemed the exact same to me.

Average and smallest racquet head size on tour

Anyone playing with anything less than 93? Anyone playing with anything greater than 100?

Wilson Six One 95 - the red and white racquet

But I don't think available at Tennis Warehouse anymore.

Wilson Six One 95 - the red and white racquet

Wasn't the Wilson Six One 95 used by some pros at one point? It is a hard racquet to buy these days? I don't seem to see it around as much.

Wilson Six One 95 - the red and white racquet

Is this racquet still made? I think at one time some pros were using it?

I play Division III college tennis, AMA

Yeah, you got to figure out at roughly $100 a pair, shoe costs can add up very quickly. I think you could get a month out of a pair during the season but that's still $800-$900 a year. But I'm pretty sure at Stanford, etc., you could easily get 5-6 pairs a year.

Here's the key question about Here's the key question. What do you get as far as shoes? I knew someone who played at an SEC school and it seemed like shoes were almost unlimited. The limiting factor as a practical matter is that people get comfortable with their shoes so don't just want to...

I play Division III college tennis, AMA

Thanks for the answers. Follow up about the gear. Do you get a ton of shoes, workout clothes, etc. from Nike or just the bare minimum? I figure if you were playing at a big Nike school (think Stanford, Oregon, etc.), you could pretty much get a ton but wondering how it is at a D3. Can a top...

How often do you guys get to restring your racquets if a string doesn't break and what kind of gear do you get from the school?

Nathan Ponwith NOT at ASU now?

He was listed on the ASU roster after transferring from UGA. But now it looks like he is off the roster?

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

So UA for travel, running and weight room training? I can't figure out why UA can't develop a tennis shoe given they even have Murray as a sponsored player.
  12. S

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

Wow, that says a lot about the shoe quality of UA because obviously they get the UA cleats as part of the school deal. I've always been skeptical about UA shoe quality. Even Nike, their stuff wasn't always uniformly good in their first 10 years or so. Nike had a ways to go to catch up to...

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

It's not easy to make shoes well. Nike and Adidas have spent hundreds of millions on R&D and have had so much chance due to sheer volume to work out kinks. I'm frankly surprised Under Armour has done as well as they have in making the few shoes they do make.

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

When Under Armour commits to paying UCLA in the 9 figures, I think they can put some pressure to have shoes other than Nike or Adidas be worn. Obviously there is a limit but I don't think it is an accident that lots of Under Armour school players wear Asics.
  15. S

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

That makes sense given UCLA was an Adidas school and some of those guys might have started in those shoes. It seems like there must be some unofficial encouragement from Under Armour that if you can't wear our shoes (or we don't make them), wear stuff from Asics or New Balance or someone other...

Yes. There are several models of Air Zoom I believe - that's why I posted the specific link.

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

Thanks! I always thought that was a big negative about a school going with UA. Sure, UA makes tennis clothes and stuff for you to work out in but the actual tennis shoes - yeah, Murray wears them but I don't even know if can buy them.

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

Do players on Under Armour teams (UCLA, Auburn, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Cal) wear Under Armour tennis shoes or do they wear Asics or New Balance? I think Under Armour schools' teams that are in a sport where Under Armour doesn't really make a shoe (or not much) for their sport...

    2018 Men's NCAA Tournament

I actually don't think it is clear that serve at the 1:11 mark actually clipped the line. I don't think that was a crazy call from Alex Clayton.

    2018 Men's NCAA Tournament

How come there is no mention about Georgia's two qualifiers for the singles tournament withdrawing?
  22. S

    What happened to Georgia?

I'm pretty sure that Zielinski and Wayne Montgomery dropped out of the singles tournament. Funny but no media mention of it at all on the UGA athletic site. What's going on here?
  23. S

    What happened to Georgia?

Zielinski isn't graduating. The team is still loaded. You are basically trading Ponwith (who had fallen down to 4th by the end of the year) for one of the two blue chippers coming in. The talent level is still really high. It should be something like Reinberg, Bryde, Henning, Zielinski, Loeb...

    John McEnroe Nike Air Trainer

There's no way to buy the tennis sole ones anymore is there?
  25. S

    SEC Tennis

Those Florida and South Carolina results have to be considered kind of fluke-ish. THis is basically the same UGA team that made it all the way to semifinals last year so you have to figure they are national title contenders this year.
  26. S

    John McEnroe Nike Air Trainer

Those different sole options were not made available to the general public I'm pretty sure. So I'm curious whether that affected adoption by the average tennis player. I wasn't playing as much during the period Mac, Wilander and Agassi were wearing the shoe (89-91?) so not sure how much you...

Why is Georgia having so many problems winning the doubles point?

    John McEnroe Nike Air Trainer

That's right - forgot Agassi and Wilander wore them too. THey were an awesome looking shoe. The sole doesn't seem ideal for hard courts but maybe the sole worked.

    Wilson Six One 95

I've always liked the way this red and white racquet looks. Does anyone on the tour still use this racquet?

    John McEnroe Nike Air Trainer

The Nike cross trainer that McEnroe wore as his competition shoe - did he have Nike make more of a "tennis sole" for it or did he even just keep the original Air Trainer sole?
