Trying to decide between - Ezone 98, Beast 98, 360+ Speed MP, PS 98 Gen3 and Tfight 300 RS

Hey Gazz, I own 4x 2020 Ezone 98s and had the same dilemma as you when I switched from my Tfight LTDs. Note that the new Ezone 98 is lighter and swings faster than the DR98 which as a byproduct will create more spin because of racket head speed. Also be sure to add the VCore 98, Black Ace...

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

Interesting, I will try to get a hold of a sample pack. Thanks for pointing it out, seems like Silverstring levels of comfort but shaped.

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

Thanks for the recommendation, ordered a reel of WCSS 17g this morning and called it a day. Realizing there’s nothing like it 13 years later.

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

Anyone using poly at 40-45 lbs on their 2020 98s? Tried 45 lbs yesterday and loved the easy depth. Had to focus a bit on footwork, any shots where I was late meant it would sail long. Good timing with topspin created heavy balls with depth that arced sharply. Happy with the comfort, aiming to be...

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

Tried TB Soft 18 at 44 lbs, it’s much stiffer than expected. Stiffer than WCSS 17 at 45 lbs. Not comparable in my opinion, will be giving it one more day of play. I see myself ordering a reel of WCSS 17 and forgetting about it for a while.

    Best low-medium price 17g multifilament?

Start with Multifeel 17g at your usual tension of 53 lbs. Expect to get 10-15 hours playtime with very little tension loss, virtually no string movement and no fraying until well into the life of the string. The string’s feel, control and power level are right in between where polys and multis...

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

With that much play time, it’s time for them to get cut out, soft strings will lose tension faster. They also play worse on really hot days, there’s a TWU article about that. If I recall correctly, heat will also speed up notching as it softens up an already soft string. Only get 10-12 hours...

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

Got a Yonex dampener on there, damn thing weighs 4 grams but does a great job. Definitely think the frame is tension sensitive, enjoyed poly best at 46-47 lbs. What’s your usual setup?

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

Tried 2g at the top of the hoop today, played much better and had very little harsh vibration. I was able to play with Hyper-G 18g at 48 lbs, something I haven’t been able to do in a while. Might be able to consistently use poly, time will tell. Thanks!

AC128EX - it’s 1.6mm thick and weighs 15g on average (measured it on 4x frames when I replaced them)

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

Four outings of doubles, about 12 sets. Also get notching in the top third of the sweet spot pretty quickly, maybe by end of day 1 of 4, but I think that’s just a soft poly characteristic.

Looking at those numbers, Tour Bite Soft 18g would be an ideal replacement. Play testing both side by side next week on 2020 Ezone 98s. My complaint with WCSS has always been tension loss and the numbers show a high amount of loss. If Tour Bite Soft 18g plays similar but lasts 1-2 more sessions...

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

I don’t think it’s very popular in North America, I talk to people often about the strings they use and not one locally has mentioned it to me.

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

No true way to know since there are no benchmarks but 3rd is my guess. BBO was launched in 1991 if one had to put a number on the beginning of it all.

Awaiting a new string haul - what should I expect? :D

Diamond Rough is a better version of ALU Rough in my opinion (considering longevity especially), try to string upper 40s. Too loose and it moves around like a non-poly, too tight and it feels boardy. 45-51 lbs for range.

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

Exactly what came to mind before I started the thread. I think Tour Bite Soft in 17/18g might be a decent alternative based on TW database numbers. Silverstring pocketing is second to none, that feeling is probably hard to replicate whilst bettering tension loss. Stiffness and Tension Loss are...

Agreed on both counts. Have you guys or anyone else tried both Tour Bite Soft in 18g and Silverstring in 17g give me a comparison? I'll report back later next week once I've given it a shot.

Weiss CANNON Silverstring 17g in 2020

Looking for some thoughts on Silverstring 17g compared to options available today. My understanding is that we are in the 4th generation of polyester strings with Luxilon 4G, BHS7T, Confidential etc. Silverstring in that regard is a bit older but still considered to be WC's flagship offering...

Is Yonex supplying like 75% of the WTA now?

Probably a combination of frame design (as per modern game) and marketing budget. Most of their lineup on the Ezone and VCORE side sits right inbetween control oriented and tweener rackets. I’ve been a Tfight and Prestige user for the last 13 years and recently switched to the Ezone 98. I needed...

Don’t see why not, Elastocross string saver unit design itself hasn’t changed.

    Babolat String Saver CRACKED

Best to wait for another Elastocross installer to show up in the mail. You’ll end up doing more damage to the strings with whatever you use compared to the benefit of the string savers.

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

Great info, ordering some Tourna Power Caps. Good point, coincidently I was also using Hyper-G 17g around 48-46 lbs. My wrist and arm were doing better with Hyper-G than they did with BHS7T. Decided to just use Multifeel for a while to get some much needed rest in the affected areas...

Closest current racquet to a Yonex DR98

You are on the right track in my opinion, I looked at the Blade v7 very closely before buying 2020 Ezone 98s. I chose the Ezone due to the lower SW and more HL balance (have a 1HB) compared to the Blade v7.

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

Thanks for the feedback, I am using the 98 version with 17g strings. Any idea on what the minimum amount of lead tape I’d need to counteract the vibration? Prefer not to change the 6pt HL balance too much. My understanding is that with Tecnifibre Xtra-Feel, I’m adding about 3-4 grams to the...

    The gut/poly thread

Thank you very much, I will try it as you mentioned. Couple of follow up questions: - Max difference in tension between gut mains and poly crosses as rule of thumb? 5 lbs? - What is the logic to taking the tension of the crosses up to the low 50s from my full bed poly tension of 46? I’m...

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

Hello all, I’ve been using the 2020 version since March. All was well until I started playing 4x a week in the heat. Combination of heat plus fatigue had me about a step slower and I started framing more often that I’d like. That’s when I realized my arm didn’t really like the 64 RA on mishits...

    The gut/poly thread

You guys are incredible, read through half of the thread before bed last night. Please see below: - Playing about 3-4 times a week with 2020 Ezone 98s at a 4.5 level. Usually doubles in Texas heat. - Started out with Hyper G at 49 lbs, then dropped to 46 lbs and liked it - Experimenting with...

    Technifibre Multifeel question

Hey Steve, my experience from a slightly higher level of play is different. A 16g full bed is lasting me about 5-6 days worth of playing time. That’s about 15-20 sets of 4.5 level doubles. That’s better that most 10 buck polys and the beauty of Multifeel is that it mostly holds tension right...
