Who is the 2nd greatest player of the open era?

Federer is way ahead of everyone (as of right now), but I think you can make a strong case for 4 players as #2 : Borg, Sampras, Nadal, and Djokovic. Here's the pro con for each of them. Borg Disclaimer: He "only" won 11 slams, but the top pros didn't really play Australia including Borg, so...

Djokovic is the Melo of tennis

Both love NY (Djokovic just bought 2 apartments there), seem to not have as much passion for the game/winning than others, care a lot about their wives and family lives, and come from economically depressed and dangerous areas (Inner-city Baltimore and Serbia). Both are also currently in a...

    Do people forget ...

That Federer was a complete head-case till he was nearly 22? I hear all this talk about how Kyrgios will never put it together because he is almost 22 ... Federer was considered a very late bloomer; people won slams and got to #1 at age 20 or barely 21 those days (Safin, Hewitt, Roddick). At...

Djokovic could have been GOAT but ...

He failed to ruthlessly dominate his generation like Federer did. Specifically Wawrinka and Murray beat him on their way to 5/6 of their slams, 4 times in the finals. Federer only lost once to someone in his generation (Safin '05 AO) and ruthlessly dominated the rest of his generation (roddick...

    Why the hate for Sampras?

What's with the hate to a guy who won 14 slams, was YE #1 for 6 straight years, dominated all his main rivals, and retired on top as the GOAT in many people's eyes? Sure, federer's achievements have surpassed him altogether, but it's not clear at all that Nadal or Djokovuc have accomplished...

    Most emotional match since ivanisivec

The crowd was more into this match than I have seen a long time. And the specialty of this rival and the more advanced age of Rodger and Rafa made this an incredibly emotional match and atmosphere. Not to mention the unbelievable comeback in the fifth and the high quality of play.

    Most influential matches

I'm not talking about the greatest or best matches. I'm saying matches that seriously changed player's destinies. Ie, for this reason, the 2008 wimbledon final has no business being on this list, it changed nothing really, federer went on to win 3 of the next 4 slams. Matches that I think...

    Djokovic is a 1-year wonder

Take away a 3 slam stretch from 2011W to 2012 AO, and he's won 3 AO's in his career in which his main rival was injured/sick (fed mono in 08, rafa hamstring in 11, nadal out in 2013). So pitiful that in the past 8 slams he's won 1 of them in the middle of his prime, in comparison, Murray has won...

nadal will win 20+ majors, retire at 35

Not exactly a fan of his, but I think this will (most likely) happen. In comparison to his pitiful main rival Djokovic (who has won as many slams in the past 2 years as old man Federer), he's still in far less deterioration, he has been slowed down a little, but he's still extremely fresh and...

we can officially ignore (john) mcenroe

possibly the most ignorant and dumb commentator in the game who frequently bandwagons and tries (miserably) to hype everything up. After the bryan brothers shut up his loud *ss yesterday i think we have official proof that we can ignore everything that comes out of his loud mouth, even if we...

Is Agassi the most talented player of the open era?

I think he is. Based on how he skipped slams left right and center, was more worried about his image than his tennis (at least in his early years), did meth, claimed to "hate tennis", was never that fit, and didn't work much on his serve, along with his penchant for choking big matches...

    "Real #1" of 2013

According to a certain friend of us (TDK), 3-set matches shouldn't count because they are only half of a match. Going by the results of the slams, Djokovic earned more points in the slam events. Is he the real #1? (Note I don't think he is the real #1).

What Nadal and Djokovic lack that federer had

Arrogance You hear all this talk of the mental battles between Djokovic and Nadal; "Oh, if Djokovic loses the Australian Open, it will take away his confidence and he will suck", "if Djokovic beats Nadal at the French Open it will destroy Nadal". Or you hear about "Nadal lacks confidence on...

Should the rules of tennis be changed?

no changes in scoring. But perhaps we can allow approaches to serves again? it would greatly help to bring serve and volley back and help the server make up for the advantages technology has given to the returner?

    Adjusting for the H2H

you guys are right. it's important. So let's first see where both players are without the head to head and then compare them federer: if he'd never played nadal in a slam, he'd have 15 slams. Let's keep weeks at no 1 the same (302 weeks) nadal: if he'd never played federer in a slam, he'd...

will nadal have a tough time year ending no 1 in 2014?

Djokovic earned more points in slams this year. probably will hold true for next year too. Nadal was able to dominate little tournaments because he had a lot in the tank from his long injury break, nadal will be more wore down next year. And djokovic will more likely do well at the wtf next year.

Is Federer a better clay-courter than Nadal?

Robin Soderling, who's peak unfortunately only lasted for the 2009 French Open , was able to peat peak nadal but lost to old man federer. Based on this, I think we can conclude that federer is better than nadal on clay.

Biggest matches of the open era?

Which had the most influence on tennis history? The 1995 us open final was huge, as well as the 1981 us open final. I think the 1985 us open final was also very big, as well as agassi's two final losses in 90. And the 2004 wimbledon final may have been what helped federer become the goat and...

Durability is a part of this game.

Why don't nadal fans get it? How healthy you are is a part of how good you are, see sports like football, baseball, or basketball where players who can't stay healthy aren't valued as much. It's the same for tennis, saying healthy (unless its a non-sports injury not of the player's fault like...

Federer is now a thing of past

Which is why lots of analysts, new fans, and some bandwagons are pumping up nadal as goat over him. Because he's a thing of the past. It's the same thing fed fans do to demean laver and rosewall and pancho. So nice to see it bite them back.

    Is William Renshaw the GOAT?

He won seven straight wimbledons when it was the biggest and really only event that mattered (and he couldn't travel around the world to play either). Why isn't he the GOAT? you guys all are ignorant, you haven't even seen him or his high standards of competition play and yet you put him down.
