Will Dimitrov ever win a slam?

He had his best chances probably in 2017, but didn't capitalize. Fell off in form right after winning the 2017 tour finals. I don't see it happening now, but I'd be stoked to see it.

Nadal has broken Novak's serve a single time on HCs since the USO 13 final

This is correct and does put the rest of the stats into question as well.

Despite winning 4 titles and being #4 in the race rankings, Rublev may not make the WTF while Federer playing one tournament has already qualified...

This would only be an issue if Federer had decided that he wanted to play, but because he isn't there's practically no issue. Rublev is as good as guaranteed to make it anyway and the only probably "unworthy" qualifier will be Medvedev. But that's pretty minor.

He won a 250 with a metal hip!

What do you think about the evolution of sport science with regard to Federer?

I don't think this is true though. Federer looks to have a heavier build than many of the all time greats before him. I'm thinking Rosewall, Laver, Borg, McEnroe, Edberg, Wilander, even Pete. And many of his rivals have been far lighter too. Players like Henman, Coria and of course Djokovic.

    Poll: Your favorite younger players?

I like Musetti and Ruusuvuori. Out of the listed ones I sort of like Tsitsipas. Weirdly I don't expect anything from any of them! But I guess someone will have to win the titles when there are no greats left.

Most disappointing player in last several years?

Kyrgios still has some time and at least theoretical potential to win something. The others are done winning anything big. On the other hand Dimi did win the WTF so he did something. The others I didn't really expect that much from. No easy answer here. Maybe Monfils.

Greater Career (so far): Zverev or Nalbandian?

What's the point of this. In an another three years Zverev will have surpassed Nalbandian's career.

2020 St. Petersburg Open - General Discussion

FAA disappoints in the big moments :/. Zverev is just a better player too apart from occasional lapses and 2nd serve woes.

    Best of luck FAA!

True enough, but slam finals are their own category. Andy Murray also lost his first 4 and is 3-8 overall, but all things considered, that record is acceptable.

    Best of luck FAA!

Who has the record for the most lost finals before getting their first title? Also, who have the worst records in finals over their careers in general? Anyone in the know?

    Musetti...impressed

Have you changed your opinion on Musetti yet? Immediately after the wins over Kei and Stan he went on to win a Challenger tournament where he beat 4 top 100 players. Now got a WC to a 250 and is through to quarters having beaten yet another top 100 player (Cuevas). The kid is showing serious...

Never seen Djokovic look as bewildered and crushed as he did yesterday sat in his chair

IIRC he cried after losing in the 2016 Olympics to Delpo and called it one of the most heartbreaking moments in his career. I think there are a couple others too, but it probably helps that he tends to win most of the close ones.

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

That's not the point!!! It's about being so convinced of your righteousness and stubborn that you would rather forfeit the match than continue playing after a wrong line call! This is my tennis dream!

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

That's right. Had that incident not happened, we could be right now celebrating Goffin's 13th Grand Slam title (I'm assuming he would've lost one of the many finals he would've made).

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

You are probably right. But at least Goffin could've done us a favour and made a scene of it! I want to see utter craziness. Like demanding someone from the audience to come and show video of the point on their device. Demanding that we put it up to a public vote whether the ball was in or out...

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

It has happened before. But probably never on a point as big as this one.

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

Lost his focus mentally, I think. I would say there are plenty of similar examples. Like Medvedev completely losing his focus in the first set against Thiem in the US Open this year after arguing with the umpire on not being allowed to challenge a call. IIRC he lost something like 9 of the next...

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

Look, I just want to know! I wish there were players out there so hellbent on principles that they were ready to get defaulted for refusing to continue to play after a bad line call. It would be great entertainment!

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

The point was a game point for Goffin to go up 4-2 in the first set. Afterwards, Goffin lost the replayed point, completely unravelled and dropped his level. Got broken, and got broken again in his next service game and Nadal cruised to a comfortable victory.

If Goffin made an ultimatum to Nadal at 2017 Monte Carlo SF, would he have conceded the point?

Reflecting on the career of Nadal today, a memory of this match popped into my head. One of the more terrible umpire errors in recent memory: But it got me thinking. I don't expect he would've ever done this of course, but had Goffin walked to Nadal, often renowned for his sportsmanship, and...

Will a man get YE #1 without a Slam? (Next 50 years)

Not if this player X keeps making several Slam finals and wins like five masters. There could also be a scenario where someone wins (for example) AO and USO but misses the French and Wimbledon due to a badly timed injury that could facilitate this kind of a scenario. I don't think it's "next to...

Of course it could happen in men's over a 50 year period. But it's not something you can really predict.
