    Born in the USSR

On my opinion it was a return-on-investment kind of thinking. Only the sole entrepreneur and investor was the government and the athletes were government workers. The investor used to decide which sport was most promising in terms of returns ( obviously decisions were in favor of winter sports...

    Born in the USSR

Agree Vostok is a Russian word, should be written "Восток" = East in English. The factory was located in Tartu, Estonia. Estonian language uses Latin alphabet. So it was kind of natural to them using latin letters. My guess the word was so popular in transliteration because of the early...

    Born in the USSR

The Kneissls manufactured under licence appeared close to the 90s. I do not know where the factory was. The bigger one (Progress) was fairly popular. I have tried both, and I also have tried the original White star. ( my coach in the university played with the White star ) The original frame...

    Born in the USSR

It was not that dramatic. The racket I mentioned was pretty decent. I could have switched to aluminum frames for example because they wont break and I could live with 3 frames for a few years. I considered Head Master. But I did not switch because it was not radically better. Jack Kramer was...

    Born in the USSR

For 350r in the ussr you could feed a family of four for a month or two. I preferred government issued gear )) Another factor was lack of access to stringing machine. I can string wood frame without a machine. 6 grip was okay for a wood racket. The smaller head you have the bigger grip you want...

    Born in the USSR

This is what we played with in the USSR ( not volkls, not maxplys ) I say WE because those frames were available for competitive young players though the clubs. It was not possible to get them in the stores. After you reach cat. 1 level ( russian word "razriad" ) you were entitled to get two...

Can TE improve even though u keep playing?

I did it. It took me a month of playing after a 15 years break to develop serious TE and GE. And if took me 2 years to heal it while keep playing. I can elaborate if you are intersted, but obviously I would not recommend this approach.

You are doing nothing wrong. Better than not practicing them at all.

    Helicopter BH

I know. but it is not the same as hitting real lobs. You cant hit targets , change depth, hitting overheads from. the baseline, apply spin and so on.

    Helicopter BH

Thanks. Probably putting it on an umpire chair will do the job The only shot I can’t practice because nobody wants practicing it ))

Can your machine throw lobs for practicing overheads?

Does isometric headshape on yonex do anything for you

I played 2 years with 97 sq in. Vcore tour G. Sweetspot was notably smaller than Wilson ps 90 and my old Estusa power beam which is smaller than 90. Spin factor in Yonex was less than in both 90 sq in frames. Sweetspot in Tour G also was shifted towards handle. Overall not an easiest frame to...

What happens when you mix a flat hitter with a Babolat Pure Aero?

It is very personal. I can't hit past the service line with a full bed of poly. So I mix it with syn gut. I only think that string selection is the most important process in adjusting to a new frame.

What happens when you mix a flat hitter with a Babolat Pure Aero?

Depth control is a matter of power level of the setup frame+strings. I spent decent amount of time trying to select strings and tension for optimal power level - about 10 string jobs. ( That is why I hate switching rackets ) Once you figure that out depth is not an issue either.

What happens when you mix a flat hitter with a Babolat Pure Aero?

This court is fast. But he is generally tough to play on any surface and balls skid the same way on hard or clay. My point was that PA apparently has no control issues for a flat hitter even with one of the most powerful strings. I've tried his rackets a few times and did not notice lack of...

What happens when you mix a flat hitter with a Babolat Pure Aero?

My partner ( on the opposite side of the court on the video ) plays with PA strung with X1 Biphase full bed. As you may see he is a pretty hard hitter with shots much flatter than mine . Also started tennis 40 years ago with wood rackets. I've never seen him hitting wildly out.

One Hand Backhand - Waht Force to Start Forward Swing?

Interesting how different perceptions people have. Ive read many reviews and articles like this about Babolat and formed in my head an image pretty much described above. Until I actually started playing with the PD. Pretty much everything in my mental image turned to be wrong.

    Give me your string recommendations!

I only briefly tru I only briefly tried it as a cross with nylon mains. Broke the mains in an hour of hitting and never tried again. I think you should experiment with it in all combinations. But the idea is that it is really good at sub 40lb tensions. You can try low 30s, it will hold the...

    Give me your string recommendations!

Try Gosen Polylon 17. It is a decent low cost string that shines at low tension. Read reviews on TW and try different colors because they play differently. I personally would play with black.

Hard court resurfacing for private court?

I would recommend finding a company that will tell you what to do exactly. I don't know about dust. I guess all small particles will be washed away or blown away soon. Clay court consists basically of 4 components. Clay, lime, crushed brick and sand. Clay and lime are responsible for making...

Hard court resurfacing for private court?

No option for a clay court? In my area I know a couple of guys with a clay court on the backyard. For private use maintenance is minimal

Is the Pure Drive HH? Does it matter?

Regular PD is 4 pt headlight, tour is 6pt and heavier. I think tour has just a bigger weight in the handle. Regular is easier to swing because its swing weight is lower. There is actually another thery about racket angular frequency which suggests that even a higher weight and sw racket can fell...

Highest ranked player you ever faced?

In official tournaments I played this guy in 2017 when he was active with ranking around 1500 https://www.atptour.com/en/players/ivan-kalinin/ki81/overview and this one in 2018 when he was not active https://www.atptour.com/en/players/ivan-korol/k0as/overview

Is the Pure Drive HH? Does it matter?

Answering your second question. Balance does matter but in a very individual way. Some combination of sw and balance gives me optimal distance to contact point and perfect timing. If I move balance up or down the frame I have to meet the ball either earlier or later. So just experiment with...

Is the Pure Drive HH? Does it matter?

There is a piece of metal embedded in the handle of the regular PD. You can detect it with a magnet. The lightest variant ot the PD does not have it. That is the only difference

Is the Pure Drive HH? Does it matter?

They are different. I have 4 PD frames. Weight variation is up to 10g. Balance and sw are all over the place. But I needed them to be about 20g heavier the specs anyway, so I was able to make them more or less identical. If you want a few PDs on spec I would recommend buying a Team or Light...

How good was the Pure Drive 2015 vs. 2018?

I play with 2015 and tried 2018 for an hour or so. They are slightly different but both good. The 2018 feels more muted in a good way. I also believe 2018 has more power. I play with a poly-nylon hybrid. Full poly does not give me enough power and depth. 2018 version felt perfect with full...

Some practice hitting video - tips and thoughts welcome

What really messed up your game is unexpected long shots. I mean really long - 2+ m out. They happened out of nowhere every 20 or so shots. Everything looks normal and suddenly I have to take your shot in the air standing behind the base line. That is something you have to take care of in...
