    UGLY forehands UNITE!

Medvedev does hit the crap outta that ball with his forehand. His take back is way way back, almost like a baseball swing. I’m sure that was not taught, he probably taught himself. He can go from a defensive position to offense instantly with his forehand. It has to drive the top players crazy...

    Kick Slice Serve

Yea I agree about the confusion but when I hear someone like Gilbert mention kick slice or as he said “KS”. It just made me curious. Thiem’s serve looked more like a topspin/slice because the follow thru was closer to a topspin with slice on it.

    Kick Slice Serve

Yes, I’ve been working on using a topspin serve for my 1st serve as well as flat with an occasional slice. The nice guy thing about the topspin serve is you can be aggressive wide as well as down the T on both 1st and 2nd serve. It works well so long as you can mix up your serves. My kick serve...

    Kick Slice Serve

I hit mainly a topspin serve and I do the same with my toss, not too far into the court but not over my head as much as a kick serve. I can’t seem to get enough pace with my kick serve, I get enough spin but it’s too slow. I was just curious what Gilbert was referring to when he said kickslice I...

    Kick Slice Serve

It was on the ad side. So instead of a kick serve wide, it’s just a slice serve down the “T” ?

    Kick Slice Serve

So, Brad Gilbert mentioned the Kick Slice serve that Thiem is using against Medvedev. I’ve heard this mentioned time and again but have not been able to find any specific information on it. Watching Thiem hit the serve he doesn’t have a kick serve follow through. Just curious if any posters...

    Best order to learn fundamentals

In general do all those things and even more but do them over and over again and again. It’s not a checklist it’s something you have to do 1000s of times or more for years and fine tune rather than checking it off a list. Shadow swings on the serve, strokes, overhead, practice your serve, drop...

    Watching the Ball During Serve

Thanks for posting this off-topic post, Lol. I did some shadow swings and I’m excited to try this crinkle in the wrist topic. I’ve changed the take back on my serve and already am allowing the wrist to hang very loose similar to the takeback used by the instructor in the video. Now, I’m going...

Serve : did I have an epiphany or am I wrong ?

Listen to your body. If you overthink the serve that can shutdown that part that allows you to hit freely and naturally. It could be the reason you were able to hit hard flat serves is that you weren’t micro-analyzing your technique. Everyone’s serve technique is unique and what works for some...

    Is S&V good or bad?

Yes $150 seems high for a paddle.

    Is S&V good or bad?

Spec Tennis can be played on a Pickleball court so it shouldn’t interfere with pickle. It’s more interesting to watch than pickle because it resembles tennis.

    Is S&V good or bad?

I understand there’s a sport that eliminates that it’s called “Spec Tennis”. It can be played on a Pickleball court,

    Is S&V good or bad?

Change the rules as in Pickleball have a no volley zone and the server has to let the return bounce meanwhile you can just play Pickleball.

Does have a John McEnroe-like Service Motion put More or Less Strain on the body?

It’s been a long time ago, I seem to remember he described it in his book “You cannot be Serious”

Does have a John McEnroe-like Service Motion put More or Less Strain on the body?

I don’t believe that serve was taught to McEnroe. I read something he said a while back that he went to this style to relieve strain in his back. It worked for him so if he felt it prevented a back injury that’s all that matters. Doesn’t look like like that serve can be taught very easily...

    Service advice

If he’s aware that he changes grip midway thru the motion and he has sound fundamentals then he has focus on not changing grips. Maybe do a lot of shadow swings starting out slowly and identifying what’s causing the grip change.

What do you think about when your serve is off?

When my serve is off it’s generally because I have spaced out and forgotten to do a proper racquet drop and accelerate for RHS. If I’m playing against 3.5 in singles I will still win the match as I seldom double fault. If I’m playing doubles my serve is vulnerable and I’m hoping my partner can...

The tennis learning journey can be quite frustrating!

Probably, but it might depend on your age after 20 years. Also, picking up your racquet and instantly being at 4.5 sounds unrealistic. I’m not saying you wouldn’t eventually rate as 4.5 if you worked on your game for months. Again it depends on your age.

Key to a consistently effective serve

Not the same though, you still have follow thru but without pronation. I guess I could learn to do that but only if makes my serve better. I do like that topspin slice serve it seems like a much heavier serve,

Key to a consistently effective serve

Thanks for your input. I googled it and that’s what I found. I’m not sure what pronation does after the ball is long gone. It’s a great serve to learn. I went out and served a few hoppers and my serve % is higher and I get some good pace on it,
  27. TennisDawg

Key to a consistently effective serve

Nice serves. Are you hitting the top spin slice? Can you describe the top spin slice? I can’t tell if you’re pronating are you? I’m working on my slice serve and some on line instructors insist you must fully pronate on slice serves and some say if it feels unnatural not too fully pronate on...
