    Serving (updates)

Dude! listen! listen very carefully.... You have no business asking advice on your serve over here! :-) you'll end-up over thinking your serve and loosing confidence and/or ruining it. As I saw it the video (regardless of hitting the net) your serve is picture perfect ! focus instead on the...

    Grip Sizes of Top Pros

It's a bit less than a finger space but yeah something like that... I'm only 5.57 ft and I like one size bigger than 4 3/8 ie... I like a 4 1/2 - that's the sweet spot for me... Which usually happens if I have a 4 3/8 leather grip and then apply a thick overgrip on top...

    Grip Sizes of Top Pros

please.... don't equate small grip with increased spin - that's just wrong ! Don't forget that many pro's hands have callous and when theey tape the fingres everything gets to thick... hence going down a size or two. and yes @Georgepeppard007 - I also have the distinct impression many grips...

    Best Clay Court Shoes?

    1) which clay ? red clay or the grey US clay ? they're different 2) it was unclear what your questions: were those Nike and Asics were they clay specific ? One of the differences with clay court shoes (That I pay attention to) is.... some with deeper grooves will also play well on synthetic...

    S&V Chip&Charge

@ByeByePoly hush now.... please edit your post and remove those counters please ? ;-) lets keep it "secret" yeah ?

    S&V Chip&Charge

Yes it does! but one can still do it provided the opponents are same age... no ? I'm doing it and I'm well over 45+ I just don't it 100% ... more like 50% unless it's the only tactic that works (does happen on occasion) . Also, there are those old-time pro's, masters of reading return then...

    The gut/poly thread

That's THE sound :-) ! it's the plastic whacking sound poly's make that is strange & weird & artificial ;-)

    The gut/poly thread

OMG! That's the UNMISTAKABLE sweet ping sound of Gut :-) don't murder it with a dampener ;-) it will go away after a short while. If you pay attention, it's the same sound happening during the first few shots of the Pro's (using Gut) when they start their warmup.

    S&V Chip&Charge

Man! this the best thread I've seen in a long while :) I say this because I employ S&V along with C&C regularly - not 100% but regularly. Question for @ByeByePoly and @Curious : why "former S&V" ? how long ago did you stop ? Even though I benefit a lot from my aggresive S&V - my struggles...

That does it! We wants video to an epic music score ! ok @ByeByePoly ?

    S&V Chip&Charge

Absolute perfect approach to S&V - don't listen to the guys telling you to swing hard.... just develop that kick serve and use that even on first serves EDIT: on second thought... a good kick serve does require a hard & fast swing... just NOT a hard HIT on the ball....

    S&V Chip&Charge

Oh forget about it, there will always be mental tension... ALWAYS! These tactics are high risk.... the better you get, the more risk you'll take, the better timing you need, you will apply these with better opponents, or at critical points in the match, etc, etc

    The gut/poly thread

Also experimenting with a very similar setup: NGW V4 and Grapplesnake Irukandji strung at 23/21 Kg (you do the conversion eheh :) on a weighted PS97 (sig) Now of course, if you gain somethings... by force you got to loose other things... The things I gain are orders better and way more...

    Stringway Dropweight vs Wise?

maybe yes, maybe not - I've read and been told that being good at weaving crosses is the secret to efficiency, not so much the automatic pulling. Now the stringway has another big advantage over the regular DW which is you don't need to the ensure the DW is horizontal.... whatever angle the DW...

    Introducing Grapplesnake USA!!!

Usually I do 22 Kg, but just to extend the life of the stringbed, I did it at least 23 Kg, I don't think I went 24Kg. I usually string at low tensions for comfort and power, I do my best to supply the control ;-)

    Introducing Grapplesnake USA!!!

Ok I have it in my PS97 with NGW on mains - my playing profile in a past post in this thread. 1st hour impressions - stringbed stiffness was too high , did not allow great spin or power but great control... somewhat obvious... so I resorted to playing by placement alone. 2nd hour impression -...

    Full gut setups

Just to add to what @HolyMountain said about technique... that's important but I stand by the 3 times effort (ok a bit of exageration just make a point), correct technique is a given in what I said.

    Full gut setups

You can try, but you won't like it :-) that's because compared to the Gut/poly you have tried, you'll have comparatively no spin at all... or to put it another way, you'll need 3 times the effort to produce shots with a modicum of the spin you're used to seeing... Unless that is if you hit with...

    Dan Evans: Racquet and Strings

How did you reach this conclusion ?? :-) You must be speed-reading ;-) The very initial post specifically states: hence my questions, why not gut ? then all the discussion ensued

    Dan Evans: Racquet and Strings

I'm sure the situation has evolved for the better since then... I mean... business just won't let such opportunity pass them by... and leave a top player buying retail... Not these days... even if we've seen #1 without a clothing contract.... for a little while... that didn't last long.

The other related question @Nostradamus is.... do Pro players have to pay the same retail prices we do ? aren't there special relationships that can arranje for better pricing ?

    Dan Evans: Racquet and Strings

No, I corrected to the Top 50, and definetely (I presume) Evans can - especially if he's looking to crack the top 20 & top 10.

    Dan Evans: Racquet and Strings

A Top 50 spends around 250K € / year (give or take 15 K) in everything (I've heard it from one), and at Top50 he said was managing to keep an operating team going year round - so maybe I was a bit exagerated on the Top 100, nonetheless it's definitely not the case for Dan Evans - which was my...

    Dan Evans: Racquet and Strings

Sorry, nope! :-) that argument does not fly... That's an argument from an amateur's point of view... that I would buy if we were talking below top 100 We're talking the elite of world tennis, where investments are done for tiny percentages of improvement... and they make a big difference...

    Two type of second serve?

Of course you should learn both types, and even more... the 65% flat one down the middle (to the body).... The more tools you have to more solutions you can apply or the more problems you can contend with. at what level ? at any level ie. as soon as you can master the serve.... you'll only get...

    Hinderance? Net person shuffling feet

"35. Body movement. A player may feint with the body while a ball is in play. A player may change position at any time, including while the server is tossing a ball" Actually the key is "while a ball is in play. A player may change position at any time, including while the server is tossing a...

    Hinderance? Net person shuffling feet

Was that before the serve was struck or immediately after ? if before it's a clear hindrance, if after...I'd say is valid in principle (though I'm open to more nuanced readings of that based on the rules from other members).
