What do you mean by curved? My claws’ jaws are angled but straight. The clamping surfaces are angled so they can clamp strings are variable distances without distorting the string while they are clamped. They are curved on the top outside but not on the gripping jaws themselves.

It could be your clamp is dropping before you pull tension. In that case your string is pulling up through the clamp at an angle pulling the string out. Holding the clamp up should help.
