Men's Open Tourney: USTA 4.5 vs Top 300 Junior

Yep, kids at age 30 slowed me down from playing 3-4 times per week to 1-2. And that's around the time I started transitioning more exclusively to doubles, which for me was a more smooth transition than for some since I excelled in doubles in high school & college.

Men's Open Tourney: USTA 4.5 vs Top 300 Junior

Also Tim congrats on your tourney success. You have a nice game and as a fellow 4.5 player it's been fun to watch your matches. At 45 I'm slowing down and mostly just play doubles these days.

Men's Open Tourney: USTA 4.5 vs Top 300 Junior

Haven't looked at your post match comments yet. Your opponent didn't look all that special, but he played really consistent, and smart percentage tennis. He moved well and was in good position for a lot of his shots. These guys for me can be a nightmare to play, since they anticipate so well...

    New York Pizza #1

Saint Louis is hot, humid, and miserable whenever I've been there. Therefore, hot pizza doesn't generally appeal to me when I've visited.

define the word "troll" for me

Behind a computer sometimes it can be hard to pick out the trolls versus somebody who is serious. But with guys like Nostradamus and Gregory Diamond it's pretty obvious. Even when it's obvious they can still be hard to ignore. Others like Sureshs are not quite as obvious but can come across...

Which stroke is worst for tennis elbow?

When I had bad TE, I could not hit a 1 HBH slice, I had to scrap it completely and only hit 2 HBH. That was probably the worst, followed by the serve. Also, any mishits were really bad.

Do you play any musical instruments ??

I also played percussion in the band through 9th grade. Of course I excelled at piano like instruments (bells, xylophone, chimes, etc.), but also was good at timing and keeping a beat. Never mastered the drum set, even though I had an interest in it.

Do you play any musical instruments ??

Started piano when I was 5. My mom taught me until 5th grade and then said I was too advanced for her. Mostly grew up playing classical, but also dabbled into jazz (Gershwin) and ragtime (Scott Joplin). In high school I played competitively and briefly thought about making a career of it. I...

Any new poster to prove level of play before humble brags

Hmm...in our area there's a self-rate form you have to fill out about your tennis background (HS, College, USTA, Futures, etc.). Then you can self-rate, but you turn it in and then the section either approves or declines that rating. We have some HS players in our area that have gone to...

Any new poster to prove level of play before humble brags

What I'm wondering is how the guy would be able to self rate at 5.0 to start with.

Any new poster to prove level of play before humble brags

Anyone with ATP points should automatically be disqualified from 5.0, unless it was an older guy with points from a long time ago (20+ years ago) or some kind of medical exemption was given. I wonder how that guy was able to get a 5.0 rating?

    Homeschooling vs. Public School

Yes. What Azure says is not the norm today, maybe it was moreso back in the 80's/90's when homeschooling was more unusual and in its infancy. Today there are more resources, groups, co-ops, activities, sports, classroom settings available. Sure there are some kids that are still isolated from...

    Homeschooling vs. Public School

Agreed. Our society is so used to letting the so-called "experts" teach our kids. If you want to have kids, well guess what, you should know them better than any teacher, pastor, instructor, etc. does. If not, then you probably shouldn't have had them in the first place. Society in...

    What job should I get?

I guess it depends on the role you are in. There are varying degrees of smarts. Yes some PHD researchers, statisticians, etc. are going to require a high IQ and advanced degrees. Data analysts, not as much.

Anyone ever get cussed at while driving?

IMO...It's not worth reacting much to this. Realize that everyone makes driving mistakes including yourself. Be happy that the mistake didn't end up as a crash. I usually just ignore these people or I smile at them if they pass me. Sometimes I'll try to give them a sorry look if I know I'm in...

    What job should I get?

You might be able to leverage your degree if you pursue an IT role in health research. If you go down this route you'd want to look to work for a large hospital or university. Where are you located? Some big hospitals are Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Intermountain...

    Nevada ranked last in everything

    Nevada ranked last in everything

I wasn't necessarily referring to life saving procedures. There is a cost/risk analysis that should be done beforehand. I work for a hospital in research and our department is always looking for ways to cut costs without sacrificing quality. Of course what constitutes life saving or quality...

What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Just discovered an amazing Rush tribute band today. Lead singer kind of has the Gwen Stefani like voice but can hit all of the high Geddy Lee notes. And the bass player totally nails Lee's sound on the Rickenbacker.
