    Friction and stringbed tension.

Good question. But I concur with @esgee48 - regardless of which string, in practice, I don’t see how there’s any scientific proof that stringbeds even out. Matter of fact, everything logical seems to point at the opposite.

Thinking of purchasing machine - opinion on particular brand

I wouldn’t touch that with a 10 foot pole. The electronics are the concern - once those go, you are SOL. The interchangeability of clamps and bases across brands is spotty at best.

    Friction and stringbed tension.

When you string 1pc, you can change the tension when you transition to the crosses without fear that the tension is going to “leak” one way or the other. There’s simply no scientific evidence to suggest that this can happen. The scenario @esgee48 offered is one way it could happen...but it’s...

How do different string patterns perform?

The most different of those to 18x20 would be 16x18 - compared to 18x20, 16x18 is about as open of a modern day “traditional” string pattern you’ll find. Launch angle will be noticeably increased. It may be easier to generate spin. Dwell time or the sensation of pocketing may be increased. A...

Your Favorite Multi? (comparing multi strings)

Also a great string. (y) Velocity is awesome too, especially given the price point. It does have that muted, perhaps rubbery feel that some may not fall in love with. But if the feel isn’t a deal breaker, there’s a lot to like otherwise, IMHO.

Your Favorite Multi? (comparing multi strings)

I concur with @mikeler’s glowing review of Discho Multifibre / Signum Pro Micronite. It is the best all around multi I’ve ever used, bar none. No disrespect to the competition, but for me Discho Multifibre puts NXT, X-1, Xcel and a bunch of other flagship multis to shame. The only problem is...

Prince Phantom 93P- Best string set up

So I forgot to bring my reel of BK with me yesterday, so that forced me to string up with a set of RS Lyon I had in my bag. It turned out to be a mixed bag for me. The good: I returned the best I have in recent memory. The stringbed rewarded big cuts on ground strokes. Hit some filthy slice...

Have you strung for a big box store?

I make $8 per in a club. I live in a low cost of living area, so I don’t take $8 as low ball. If I lived in NYC, for example, you bet I’d be demanding more. So, $8 or even $10 per racquet in my view anyway is not necessarily insulting, depending on where you live. Another reason I don’t quibble...

Prince Phantom 93P- Best string set up

^^ I agree. IMHO, it isn’t so much about NTRP, as it is about being able to comfortably swing the 93p. I actually think it would make a great beginner or training stick for aspiring juniors, or even adults - to form a solid foundation of technique and footwork fundamentals. On coaches orders, I...

    Hitting with ATP pro

I could keep up with her pace wise. But her consistency made me look like a schmuck out there. Imagine spending 1.5 hours hitting ground strokes off balls that are landing consistently inside 1 foot from the baseline. Exhausting. Humbling. Not easy, and I don’t consider myself to have been a...

    Hitting with ATP pro

TBH I wasn’t sure why. I felt mostly unworthy out there. Know how many balls she missed in the net? 3 - over the course of 1.5 hours of hitting. I stopped counting my net misses when I got to 10. She wasn’t blowing me off the court with pace - in that sense, I was able to keep up with her. The...

Raonic New Coach is Fabrice Santoro

He’s got the hands of a brick layer. Can’t see how the magician is going to fix that, when so many other big names before him couldn’t. Seems Raonic is always searching for some new coach to take him to “the next level.” I suspect that search is going to be ongoing, as I can’t imagine his best...

Me neither. Take the players playing on the men’s futures tour. Look at how far they’ve come in the sport. And yet, there’s little hope for most of them of making it to the next levels of the sport, where they might be able to make a living playing it. So many little fish in an enormous ocean...

This is so cool, what an experience for you! Thanks for sharing the video, I really enjoyed watching. Isn’t it amazing how cleanly pros strike the ball, and how deep every ball is? Take it from me, you’ll remember this experience the rest of your life, as I was lucky enough to have a similar...

Single layer versus double layer of lead tape

Depends on what you’re trying to achieve, and what you have to work with. For example, if I have a racquet that doesn’t allow much head room for customization, then layering makes more sense, as that will minimize increasing the SW. One problem with this strategy is the possibility of creating...
