RG 2021 SF: Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic

Rafa's my favorite so I'm obviously upset about the result, but congrats to Djokovic and his fans.

Serious thread: Does Kyrgios really love Federer???

edit: delete: I thought Kyrgios said something negative but it was Tomic.

    Michael Chang's speed is legendary

Don't worry about it lol. Most people would agree about Chang's speed though. For tennis fanatics, the name "Chang" is pretty much synonymous with speed. edit: And just like that someone posts before me and doesn't agree. I am covered in shame.

    Michael Chang's speed is legendary

I'm actually not sure. It's hard to tell if the "ng" is audible at the end of the word. I wish there were captions. edit: Yeah, I'm thinking it's Che.

    Michael Chang's speed is legendary

I hate to spoil the thread but the guy in the SNL clip didn't say "Michael Chang." He said "Michael Che," which is his own name. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Che I agree with the thread title though. lol

    Agassi vs Djokovic-Who will win?

I remember Agassi himself saying that Djokovic is better because although they both have excellent groundstrokes and returns, Djokovic moves and defends much better. Of course, Andre could have just been being humble, but I think his point does make sense.

So who is the mentally tougher player: Nadal or Djokovic?

I agree with GabeT. They're both described to be mentally tough but in different ways. Nadal is famous for playing every point with maximum focus and intensity. Djokovic is famous for clutch moments like saving match points. Novak actually asked Murray this question and he gave the slight...

    Big congrats to Kei Nishikori!

Wow. I didn't even know he was already married. Congrats to Kei and Mai!

Will it ever end? Is tennis an old mans game now?

Yes and they both won MVP. This means that despite their ages, they’re actually maintaining high performance levels because were better than all their younger teammates.

Will it ever end? Is tennis an old mans game now?

I always found it sad that tennis players' performance would always fall off a cliff after 30, so it would be great if they could last longer on tour from now on.

Rank these fifteen players from best to worst #1 - #15

There was a period from the end of 2009 to early 2010 where Kolya was regularly beating the Big 3 each week. Even if it was very brief, it's hard to find players who you can say that about.

Yes, it was lol. It actually still feels like yesterday though. I remember Shaolin was posting here around 2004 also.

Sampras never created such controversy and division among tennis fans

You're quoting an older post of mine and not a recent one, and I hope you don't think I was addressing you or even any member specifically. I've been a member here since 2004, and TTW is still an excellent forum with many nice posters. I just stand by my statement that less toxicity is always a...

    Stronger gen?

What if Hewitt had Safin's game and if Safin had Hewitt's brain? It didn't happen that way though lol

    Stronger gen?

If we compare talent alone, I think two generations are actually very close. Obviously, having 2/Big 3 over just 1/Big 3 skews the latter gen. However, aside from Roger, I think the main problem with the 1980—1984 gen was that their peaks were cut short because of injuries, lack of dedication...

5'7" Diego Schwartzman reached ATP #11

That sounds like good coaching. ;) I remember Robby Ginepri said he was a runt as a kid, so he really looked up to Michael Chang as his favorite player. The tours need these small players to serve as role models. They might not be at the very pinnacles of success, but one can argue that they...

5'7" Diego Schwartzman reached ATP #11

Exactly. They're definitely an inspiration for shorter and even average-height players, especially the ones with big aspirations in the sport.

5'7" Diego Schwartzman reached ATP #11

Another great example. I saw him in person too and I think he was shorter than Diego.

5'7" Diego Schwartzman reached ATP #11

Diego does look shorter than 5'7". Listed heights are often exaggerated. He has so much power in his groundstrokes though. He might be the hardest pound for pound hitter I've seen.

Djokovic: Slams should be Best of 3 sets

Agreed. I always consider Best of 3 much more boring than Best of 5. When you think of all the classic men's matches throughout history, almost all of them were 5-setters.
  23. VashTheStampede

Djokovic: Slams should be Best of 3 sets

Interesting. Sad too. I hope we don't end up changing our favorite sports just because technology damaged people's attention spans.
  24. VashTheStampede

Djokovic: Slams should be Best of 3 sets

Noah Rubin and Djokovic both support the change to Best of 3 format because they believe young people don't have the patience to sit through a Best of 5 match. However, I really question whether or not there's actual statistical evidence of this. It seems like they're just making assumptions...

Djokovic: Slams should be Best of 3 sets

My post was just a general statement about how a Bo3 change would affect the game. Not everything revolves around the Big 3. ;) My point is that with a Bo3 change, players may start to neglect fitness, bringing the sport backwards in terms of quality.
  26. VashTheStampede

Djokovic: Slams should be Best of 3 sets

Yeah, players with good stamina would actually be worse off with Bo3 because their fitness advantage would be nullified.

    Reasons for European domination?

Yes, I think European cultures take tennis more seriously than cultures in America, Canada, and Australia. Think of players such as Raonic, Kenin, Tomic, Shapovalov, Andreescu. The players that come from Western nations are oftentimes still of Eastern European heritage and upbringing.
