Oh, Canada! The Thread for Canadian ATP/WTA Players

Another disappointing day as both FAA and Shapo lose their respective semifinals to lower ranked opponents that they probably should have beat. FAA did win his semifinals in doubles with Hurkacz, so at least he'll be playing in the final there.

Djokovic has an identical 9-2 record against the two of them.

    2021 ATP500 Twin (Halle/Queen’s Club) General Discussion; June 14-20

I remember when the oddsmakers had FAA as like the 4th favorite to win Wimbledon in 2019 after the first round with only like the big 3 ahead of him or something. That was crazy.

Interesting that the word association response for "Friend" from FAA was "Tiafoe" and not Shapo... but Shapo's response was "Felix".

Oh, Canada! The Thread for Canadian ATP/WTA Players

The last question was about the Olympics. Did I miss seeing the news on this, or is this new information? If I understood correctly, it sounds like Shapo will not be taking part in the Olympics. I would have to assume that would mean it would be FAA and Raonic paying singles, and then...

Oh, Canada! The Thread for Canadian ATP/WTA Players

A good day for the Canadians as FAA beats Hurkacz to set up the first ever meeting with Federer, and Shapo wins in two tight tiebreaks to play in a battle of the lefties with Lopez. LAF also won on the women's side.

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

Bookies have Cilic as the slightest favorite. Interesting that a few years ago, FAA completed dominated Tsitsipas, but tomorrow within hours of each other, FAA will be playing in the final of a 250, whereas Tsitsipas will be playing in the final of the French Open.

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

I don't know why, but I have a good feeling this may be the one he finally wins a title.

    Is Federer celebrating today ?

It might very well delay when he loses the title of having most grand slam titles won, but in the big picture it doesn't really make a big difference. At this point, it's pretty much inevitable that both Nadal and Djokovic will pass him at some point in the near future. They have combined to...

The Shape Of Things To Come: Denis Shapovalov!

Unfortunately he wasn't able to follow that up later in the day and lost in straight sets to Cilic. A shame, as there was a real chance it could have been a Shapo/FAA final.

Oh, Canada! The Thread for Canadian ATP/WTA Players

Oh dear, a slam to forget for the Canadian contingent. Started out bad with Shapo dropping out before the draw, and then Milos dropping out after the draw. Things didn't get any better after the tournament started with FAA losing in the first round. LAF loses today in the 2nd round, and I...

Oh, Canada! The Thread for Canadian ATP/WTA Players

Another Masters, another day both young Canadian lads bow out together... but in fairly different fashion. FAA loses meekly as the decided favorite going into the match, including eating an Italian breadstick in the second set. Shapo goes in as the huge underdog against Nadal and actually...

The 2021 Rome masters 1000 R16 matchup :- (2) Rafael Nadal [ESP] versus (13) Denis Shapovalov [CAN]

Well, yes and no... early on, he was always touting having "ice in his veins"... and it did seem like he did well in the pressure moments and wasn't prone to choking. But yeah, that's more or less how I evaluated him even from early on... when he's in the zone, he can take out any player... but...

The 2021 Rome masters 1000 R16 matchup :- (2) Rafael Nadal [ESP] versus (13) Denis Shapovalov [CAN]

You know what? That's what I thought. Because the match started at 5am, I literally tuned in right when Shapo lost his first match point and in my blearly eyed state from just waking up, I thought he did have a second match point... But weirdly the point by point stats here show only one...

The 2021 Rome masters 1000 R16 matchup :- (2) Rafael Nadal [ESP] versus (13) Denis Shapovalov [CAN]

See, never in doubt. Having only one match point against Nadal? Total beatdown. Just kidding.

The 2021 Rome masters 1000 R16 matchup :- (2) Rafael Nadal [ESP] versus (13) Denis Shapovalov [CAN]

I would love a Shapo win, but it's gonna be a straight beatdown from Nadal.

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

Against Ruud? It was basically a 50/50 match even going in... and Ruud did go on to make the semifinals, including taking out Tsitsipas on the way... so maybe it wasn't really that bad of a loss. Anyway, didn't watch the match at all, but based on the score line, looks like it was a very iffy...

ATP 500 Barcelona 2021 Final: Rafael Nadal [3] vs Stefanos Tsitsipas [5]

Wow, 3 hours and 40 minutes, longer than the Djokovic/Karatsev match.

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

Sad that FAA used to live rent free in Tsitsipas's head to the point where Tsitsipas was wondering if he was ever going to be able to beat FAA... to now, where FAA has lost their last four encounters. I guess Tsitsipas has gotten a lot better in the past couple years, whereas FAA has been...

The Ascent To The Throne Begins For Felix Auger Aliassime

Bluntly speaking, they tournament organizers don't give a **** where the players are from. It's not that what you said doesn't make sense, they just don't care. They're not going to start looking at where the players are from for each match and build their schedule around that.

2021 Barcelona Open - Official Thread

It really looks like the whole complexion of the matched changed after FAA figured that out. There's enough weight on the shots to the backhand where Musetti isn't able to give aggressive replies.
