    Emma Raducanu: 1 GS Wonder?

Of course they are hyping Raducanu, as seen with other WTA players in recent years. She won a major and that's great--she did her job, but one should examine why some choose to start building temples to certain players who either won their first major, or a couple--but were not seen as a...

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

She is not retiring, so it must suck to base so much hate on a dream that's not coming true. The only people talking about "behavior are the same people who hated her since the start of her career, and it never had a damn thing to do with "behavior". She is legend who transcended the sport...

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

She was outplayed; all of what got her to that final--particularly against former winners--was not to be seen in that final.

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

I doubt your praise lines up with marketing reality, aside from her now being a majors winner.

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

5 - 10 majors? That's a wild overestimation of her skills at this point.

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

Fernandez brought nothing to this final. Well, so much for the "she's the next __________ in tennis!" hype-drunk posts over the past two weeks. In any case, time for the updated list of majors winners (not named Serena) since 2010: Schiavone: FO - 2010 Clijsters: USO 2010 & AO 2011 Li Na: FO...

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

Fernandez in a the fierce sets. I give her the edge in that she might be fully aware of how she made it to the final, and the last time a woman came from seemingly nowhere to beat past majors winners and take the title.

US Open SF: Fernandez vs Sabalenka

Good point. But placement of that serve is the key, as in going wide to keep Fernandez triggered to run after everything so Sabalenka has an easy put-away.

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

Djokovic is on a mission. THE most important mission in the sport's history. All others should clear the streets.

They're all hyped to varying degrees, but with some players, their ascent was so undeniable that they earned all of the celebratory statements and predictions (Serena more than the rest).

2021 US Open QF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs [6] Matteo Berrettini

Only if Berrettini is playing a cardboard cutout of Djokovic instead of the real man.

Kerber, to be sure. While Fernandez's run is interesting, some are already making big predictions about her career from a few matches, and cannot see that the same kind of fireworks were set off about Bouchard, Stevenson, Vaidisova, Oudin and other players who made a splash at a major, but...

"Great Barty?" Rogers had a job to do, and executed it memorably. No one said she was slated to win the USO title.

Ash Barty. A champion for a generation or right place right time?

The bold part is true--in the 21st century, you have a number of players who won several majors, but they are not generally referred to as "all-time greats," so that would certainly apply to the Bartys of the sport. Regarding the idea of Barty being some "champion for a generation"--no. Start...

Does Barty deserve her titled era?

She's still not the best of the WTA, which is measured in majors (and its categories), and right now, Osaka has her beat. There's no denying that.

Does Barty deserve her titled era?

No, the "entire stadium" was not booing Osaka. You can cling to that hate-filled fantasy all you like, but Osaka is a player with a large fanbase and has transcended the sport. The false idol of this thread has not.

2021 US Open - WTA Official Thread

True, and her recent record at the US Open was all the indicator one needed to reach that conclusion. Agreed, only Osaka--when healthy--has that kind of ability in short a time between majors. She's good, but not at the level some on this and other corners of social media were packaging her...

Does Barty deserve her titled era?

Barty era? Not even close. Well, some were aggressively pushing the "No one can beat Barty" / "No one can beat her at the US Open" / "I see her in the final" and all manner of wildly unrealistic, fanboy nonsense. Barty was defeated one round earlier than her previous USO appearances...and this...

Rogers played a magnificent edge-of-your-seat game, never intimidated by Barty, and frankly, she outplayed her. Now, Barty exits the US Open one round earlier than her previous appearances in '18 & '19..

Over the decades, some players learned to lip-read opponents talking to their partners and as a result, anticipated strategies, so its a sensible precaution.

Djokovic versus Nishikori United States Open 2021 round of 32

Another practice session for Djokovic. Nishikori is one of the most overrated players of the Can't Win A Major Legion (especially on this board, with all of that BS "ninja" so-called "compliment" crap so many attached to him). Who really thinks he's going to win this match?
