2021 US Open Final - [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [2] Daniil Medvedev

It's neither hot nor humid in NY right now. Perfect weather :)

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

I don't see it personally. Everything's possible in tennis of course but we've already witnessed at AO how much harder it is for Djoko to defeat Zverev than Medvedev. BTW, rinse and repeat, same actors at USO than AO, definitely the 3 best hard court players atm. After that it's a question of...

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

Thiem was 27 when he won his slam title. Cilic won 1 too. What I see is that the big 3 (or 4) are crushing the rest of the tour in slams. That's not a matter of age, that's about how exceptional those players are . It's also about progress in maintaining players ultra fit for longer. When they...

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

Zverev is the only player who can beat Novak at this USO. I've known it from the start, which is why I was not happy with Novak's draw even though everybody said it was easy. Because the only thing relevant in terms of Novak's draw was to avoid Zverev for as long as possible (meaning having...

2021 US Open QF: [4] Alexander Zverev vs Lloyd Harris

I have the strong feeling that if Djoko gets through Zverev, he will win it all. Medvedev is a better matchup for Novak than Zverev. The semi is the real final in terms of Djoko pulling off the calendar slam. It is the mach that will truly decide it imo.

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

This is not about age but about the fact that some players are much better in best of 3 than in best of 5 (or vice versa ) and that has always existed. It's not a new phenomenon.

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

It's not new. Davydenko and Nalbandian were the same. Davydenko even talked about it. Won masters and WTF but couldn't break through in slams. But hey, guess what, it was not interpreted as "what's wrong with the tour" then, it was all about "Federer is such a genius" What's that...

2021 US Open QF: [4] Alexander Zverev vs Lloyd Harris

I hope so but it's not going to be an easy task. It wasn't at AO and Zverev is playing better now.

2021 US Open QF: [4] Alexander Zverev vs Lloyd Harris

Harris is a nobody. Zverev is a much greater player than he gets credit for and he is in top form + more importantly in top confidence right now. Zverev can go on winning streaks. He is very, very hard to beat if his mental is not shaky. He has the game to beat anyone on any surface. Now of...

2021 US Open QF: [4] Alexander Zverev vs Lloyd Harris

My impression is the exact opposite. It will be Nole or Sascha. Personally, I would absolutely love it if FAA reached final. He's playing well. He has a legit shot. I do not trust Medvedev's consistency. AT ALL.

2021 US Open QF: [4] Alexander Zverev vs Lloyd Harris

If Djoko makes the semi, Zverev/Djoko will be the real final just like it was at the AO. IMO, Zverev is currently the most challenging opponent for Novak on hard court.

Djokovic Trailed Federer by 15 slams and Nadal by 8 slams in 2010

    Just Slam titles per age, same system: 19: Nad 1 - Djo/Fed 0 20: Nad 2 - Djo/Fed 0 21: Nad 3 - Djo 1 - Fed 0 22: Nad 5 - Djo/Fed 1 23: Nad 6 - Fed 4 - Djo 1 24: Nad 9 - Fed 6 - Djo 4 25: Nad 10 - Fed 9 - Djo 5 26: Fed 12 - Nad 11 - Djo 6 27: Fed/Nad 13 - Djo 7 28: Fed 15 - Nad 14 - Djo 10 29...

Djokovic Trailed Federer by 15 slams and Nadal by 8 slams in 2010

It is also interesting to do a tally for all tier 1 titles, not just slams, for the big 3. I did it per season for convenience of comparison, meaning when I say 20 years old, I mean the end of the season when they turned 20: 2006 for Nadal, 2007 for Novak and 2001 for Fed. I've defined tier 1...

Winning 3 slams at + 34 years old is unheard of

Djoko has won 8 slams since turning 31! o_O (almost 3 times more than Fed who's won only 3 since the age of 31!!! and Fed is almost 6 years older than Djoko!) So who's the genius now? It's worth repeating: Fed is extremely overrated and his mythical "longevity" even more.
  17. veroniquem

Is this all but a dream?

To put this into perspective, between the age of 30 and 34, Federer won 1 slam (Fed's longevity? What longevity?) , Nadal won 6 slams (truly impressive for such a precocious wonder) and Djoko has already won 8 (and he'll play 2 more slams before turning 35). At the age of 34, Federer won 1...

Is this all but a dream?

Calendar slam is unbelievable. Just winning the first 3 slams of the season on different surfaces at the age of 34 is unbelievable. It would be amazing at any age but at 34????? Unreal. GOAT doesn't even start to describe it. It's a testament to Novak's superior fitness and mental.

Novak has BROKEN the Next Gen

For sure. Novak is a role model and inspiration to them rather than a death sentence. (Although it must sting right after a loss like Shapo's tears demonstrate. But Novak also cried when he lost his semi to Nadal at the 2008 Olympics. Failure is necessary for progress and growth)

    Still 20-20...what now?

We celebrate because Djoko is the youngest of the 3 (on top of being the most versatile, talented, fit and mentally strong) and he is the most likely to get the absolute slam record. Novak also has #1 record, most tier 1 titles overall, most dominant season, 2 career grand slams, the Nole slam...

Novak has BROKEN the Next Gen

He hasn't "broken" them. He has pushed them, which will incentivize them to improve, just like Fedal have done for Novak himself. (Relatively speaking of course since none of the next gen has as much talent and potential as Novak).

It's the other way around. If Djokodal had hit their prime before Fed, Fed would have been lucky to stick around as the 3rd wheel, Murray style, which is fair because Fed is the least impressive of the big 3, but never happened just because Fed predated the other 2.

Totally wrong from Nadal as well. And Osaka, since we're at it. Time to stop indulging the diva attitude and stop that hideous trend of cherry picking events played, out of greedy calculations and hubris, especially when it comes to slams.
