Steffi had what Serena & Nole lacked

Missed the point completely. Unless you want to tell me that during her 12 year hiatus she followed a training regime (in terms of both fitness AND tennis training) which was even remotely close to what she did during her playing days (Let us even ignore the fact that without actual competitive...

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

Care to elaborate why the record in the most important metric (slam count) is not enough to be at least in discussion? Before you give me the broken-record BS excuse of the inflated AO titles please also explain why you have Willis and Connolly in you list (or do you think they faced a deeper...

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

Exactly. Four letter name and people still manage to spell it wrong over and over again. If someone has followed WTA even in the slightest he must have seen her name written countless times to be at the very least able to spell it correctly. To still make errors shows either insane stupidity or...

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

Has zero to do with her tennis accomplishments. It is completely ridiculous to assume that sport stars are all role models and very nice people. In other sports there are a lot of GOAT candidates who are first class jerks and sometimes way worse than Court (Jordan or Bobby Fischer come to mind)...

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

I actually feel sorry for the athletes themselves as they are exploited big time (300+ matches a year sometimes with stunts that gives them concussions etc). Chris Benoits tragic fate caused by these diving headbutts he had to perform is only one example. Guys like Hogan were the beneficiaries...

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

I give you that. I do have respect for their athletic abilities (Foley’s stunts were something else). Does not change the fact that no real competition takes place and promoters can decide about winning streaks etc.

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

Absolutely. Holding the slam record (both in singles and overall) along with a CYGS and overall most tournament wins gives you just a footnote. But since you spelled Steffi’s name as “Graff” it already shows how seriously one should take whatever you say about tennis.

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

Sure because players greatness is first and foremost measured by two clown exhibition matches instead of slam titles etc. By the way, this “great accomplishment” of BJK happened because Riggs threw the match. This was as fake as WWE wrestling.

Steffi had what Serena & Nole lacked

Ok so she ran a marathon during a decade of inactivity, good for her. This does not change what I said though, as it only means she stayed physically fit. If she hasn’t practiced tennis regularly and most importantly didn’t play any serious matches during this time her decline will be faster...

Steffi had what Serena & Nole lacked

We can also add to this that she was out of the game and most likely barely training for more than a decade. That is not even comparable to a 38 year old Federer who at least stayed on the tour and sharp (and even he of course was way below the level of his 25 year old self).

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

Court won a CYGS and 6 in a row in the OE , next time better check the most basic facts before you post this nonsense here. Saying that Court is equal to King is the biggest joke ever, there is literally no metric where Court does not dwarf King in achievements. Take away ALL her AO if you want...

"Serena Williams will be the GOAT regardless of Margaret Court’s record" .... Says Patrick Mouratoglou

Serena’s coach says she is GOAT, what a surprise. Might as well ask her husband on his opinion while we are at it.

Who's results/performance was more impressive at chasing the CYGS: Federer 2006 or Djokovic 2015 ?

none of them was chasing the CYGS. You could simply have asked who had the better slam season.

Slam final losses to non ATG players.

He beat Nadal once (and it is questionable whether Nadal was fully fit here) after not having even won one single set in 13 matches and also afterwards was pretty useless against Nadal. He beat Federer once at 34 on Federer’s worst surface. With Djokovic he beat the peak version at least twice...

You can change ONE match result from tennis history...

Borg vs Mac USO 1980, as this would give Borg the chance for CYGS. Second choice is Nadal vs Djokovic Wimbledon 2018. Djokovic would most likely come back anyways as the semifinal and tough five setter alone would give him enough confidence but Nadal would have a third Wimbledon and on top of...

If a "balanced out resume" with 100 percent completion was GOAT, No one would touch Agassi

Of course Agassi’s Career Super Slam is something big, but Sampras has 6 more slams, 4 more YEC (which was very big during their careers) and Leads the H2H and slam H2H convincingly. No way one can put Agassi ahead of him. Had he won a CYGS or Calendar Year Super Slam this could at least be a...

Match Stats/Report - Muster vs Becker, Monte Carlo final, 1995

27 passing winners is not bad given that this was seen as a very weak shot of Muster and the reason for his career long problems against serve and volley players.

Djokovic will have his sampras hewitt 2001 tomorrow

That guy was @HipRotation. He did not only say Querrey would beat Djokovic but he would stop him. Given Novak disappeared and looked like he was done winning slams for almost two years immediately after that loss made that prediction look even better for some time. Nobody beats @Checkmate...

Did Becker have the potential to be on par with Borg?

5-1. Becker actually had positive H2H against almost every one of his great contemporaries. Not sure though whether he was a big match player as he had the weird habit to have negative slam H2H against people he usually dominated (Wilander, Edberg, Mac to name a few). Lendl is the big exception...

This goes without saying but nevertheless we have experts here claiming that Hingis would beat peak Djokovic and Federer.

This could be a blessing in disguise for Djokovic

Lol at these TTW discussions, coming just short of the biggest achievement in the sport should be a blessing in disguise. The slam record will be Novak’s anyways, he reached all four slam finals this year, winning three of them so statistically his most successful slam year next to 2015. He...

Is Emma's win a bigger story than a potential Novak's CYGS?

What is it lately with all these stupid threads comparing Raducanu to Djokovic? Both are of course great stories but obviously Djokovic’s CYGS is bigger. In 10 years time or at the very latest when Raducanu retires nobody outside hardcore WTA fans will talk about this achievement whereas a CYGS...

The recent Fedalovic slam title streak

Other than USO 2014 and WIM 2016, at least one of Fedalovic was part of every slam final going back until FO 2005. Those are more than 16 years and 63 slams.

CYGS is not the Ultimate Achievement in Tennis, DOMINATING 3 Generations is .....

Different achievements hard to compare, basically longevity vs concentrated dominance. In terms of difficulty though winning 13 titles at ANY slam (which basically per definition includes dominating three generations) is harder to achieve. We have seen CYGS and even if Novak does not win it this...
