    2021 18+ 4.0M USTA League Nationals Predictions

I only count "new" S's, i.e. those who have never been rated (as far as I can tell). I don't count guys who are S's just because their previous rating expired. I assume this is the basis you're looking for. Intermountain stands apart, with 10 such S's. The other teams range from 0 to 4, with...

Any predictions on 8.0 55 Nationals?

I'd say SoCal, followed by Mid Atlantic, Eastern, and Texas

    2021 40+ 4.5M USTA League Nationals Predictions

And I'll go with the same top 4 except Southern in place of Caribbean.

    2021 18+ 4.0M USTA League Nationals Predictions

My top four are the same, except Intermountain in place of MoValley. Going "beyond the numbers" on that pick, given some knowledge about their program.:)

    4.5 Men's 18&over Nationals - Surprise, Arizona

And MoValley over Southwest in what some on the ground considered an upset

    4.5 Men's 18&over Nationals - Surprise, Arizona

Southern over Texas 3-2 in one semi, came down to MTB

    18+ 4.5M Nationals Predictions

You're right, that's why we call them forecasts and not guarantees. Public data are all we use.

    3.5 18+ Nationals Predictions

Akin to a queen sacrifice in chess! Risky strategy but elegant if it works. Been waiting a long time to be in position to run that gambit.:happydevil:

    40+ 4.0M Nationals Predictions

Sounds like they were “just happy to be here”. Not uncommon for one’s first Nationals. But, as you say, does not correlate well with success.

    40+ 4.0M Nationals Predictions

Yeah they’re not from Houston, NOHO, or Dallas and I guess that does make a difference. At 0-2 they should be out of it, has a 2-2 team ever made it to Sunday?

    18+ 4.5M Nationals Predictions

I hate to do this but let me just keep it proprietary until I've put a bit more proof in the pudding.
  12. N

    18+ 4.5M Nationals Predictions

And I'll go with SoCal, Florida, Mid Atlantic, and a PNW/New England virtual dead heat. SoCal looks especially strong.

    18+ 4.5M Nationals Predictions

You could say that about some others as well
  14. N

    40+ 4.0M Nationals Predictions

And my money is on Texas, Southern, and Middle West, with Eastern and New England in a virtual dead heat for the fourth position. Let the games begin!

    3.5 18+ Nationals Predictions

Primarily ratings and number of new S's.
  16. N

    3.5 18+ Nationals Predictions

Looks very close to me but I'd say Mid Atlantic by a nose

    4.5 Men's 18&over Nationals - Surprise, Arizona

I believe you have 48 hours from the end of that Section's Sectionals to file any grievances, even if you're from another Section. Not a very grievance-friendly rule, but there you go. I tried it once and got that answer. As to college players, I believe if they self-rated before joining the...

Announcemet by USTA of year end rating review

I think you'd find that most of the appeals up had just been bumped down, and are trying to stay on the team they were on, rather than trying to move up from where they'd been and join a stronger team. I also suspect it's often more about the social ladder than the tennis ladder.

Announcemet by USTA of year end rating review

There's one more step in the process that I haven't seen mentioned here, this from my Section Coordinator. The first step is they look at your YE19 - yes, YE19 - rating to see if it's below (in the case where a player is appealing down) a certain additional threshold that they are keeping...

Are all USTA sections pretty much the same?

The other reason is the court surface. Hard, not paper. The best player doesn’t always win.

Best places in US to play tennis 4.0

The Woodlands, TX, a suburb of Houston. A club is all about its membership, and this is a great one for that. Hard, clay, and indoor courts. Plus you’ll be very familiar with the weather...

    What constitutes captaining?

Interesting question, but what really matters is how the USTA defines it, and I don't think they typically do. This seems lazy and makes the intent of a ban kind of hard to enforce, rendering it almost meaningless in cases like yours. In the current NorCal ban that has appeared in this blog...

    Morality/Sportsmanship Question

Great to see so many honest people here, who will go straight to the overrule. As we all know, however, every once in a great while we get “that partner” who is just very sensitive to these things. Wrongly so of course, but sensitive nonetheless and you’d kind of like to avoid infuriating...

    The Captain Confessional

I can't remember the last time I captained a playoff-caliber team where the bottom players didn't think they were just as good as the top players. And frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

How long until line calls are automated for ordinary league play?

One thing I've learned about computer technology is, if we think it's ten years away, it's probably five, starting with the high-end clubs. I for one would welcome it. And based on my wife's experiences, it'll fundamentally change womens' league tennis.

    Week 3 of Nationals is a big one - 18+ 4.0 and 4.5, 40+ 3.0 and 3.5

After day 1 it looks like 18+ 4.0 men could possibly finish with five undefeated teams. Would this be a first?

Interesting happenings with NorCal 40+ 4.5+ Nationals representative

Kind of like how the Tylenol tampering in '82 changed everything about how consumables are packaged. Sigh.

Week 2 of USTA League Nationals is four days away

TX beat IM, FL and MW at 2-2 in a singles MTB.

As I look more closely, I think your Eastern buddy has a good shot. It's more likely than not.
