2021 Antwerp R1: Frances Tiafoe vs. (WC) Andy Murray

Some highlights for anyone who didn't catch the match (not the best, but something nonetheless): Really happy with this one for Murray. For him to get the W over someone he recently lost to, and win a BO3 vs a much younger player - that's really promising. 2R vs Schwartzman may be a little...

    2021 WTA week of 10/18; Moscow 500 & Spain 250

Watson is on a 6-match losing streak, but she will probably peak for a week next year and nab another WTA title. She's actually won 4 which is more than many far superior players have in the past.

Are Norrie and Basilashvili elite players?

Let's see what Norrie can do next season. His ranking has risen this year similarly to that of the women's winner - Paula Badosa (#71 & #70). It seems Norrie has been on tour a lot longer than Badosa, but fans want to see players make improvements. I don't understand why people are expecting...

    2021 WTA Indian Wells

Don't act like Svitolina and Sabalenka are the toughest draws in major tournaments. Svitolina has performed best at the big tournaments outside of majors, and Sabalenka has only made big steps at majors this year. Kerber was having a rise in form, but she's been a far more compromised version of...

    2021 WTA Indian Wells

Clijsters' standouts at her peak were her groundstrokes and her movement. You're right, feed her the ball and she's still dangerous and can out strike many players, but move her around at her current fitness level and you'll probably beat her in 3 at worst if you're a decent enough player. I'd...

Gutted we didn't get Azarenka v Muguruza. Also had never heard of Hontama before this week.

Which of these WTA 1 Slam Champion gets their 2nd?

Ostapenko was in good form going into Wimbledon this year but fell to Tomljanovic and embarrassed herself. She would have to be in that form again, but I'm not sure the pressure will ever be as low as 2017's RG. Kenin and Andreescu will be back I'm pretty sure of it. Providing Andreescu can play...

2021 US Open - WTA Official Thread

Teenage tennis players have bratty moments (actually, many tennis players in general, including the adults). I'm not sure why people on these boards are expecting players not to show frustration, not to smash rackets... It's happened for decades and won't stop. As long as they aren't abusing or...

It was Wang Qiang that beat Serena at the AO in 2020 I believe. And unfortunately, she's achieved very little since. Zhang Shuai's singles career picked up massively after the AO win over Halep alongside her doubles results.

2021 US Open Final - [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [2] Daniil Medvedev

3rd time lucky for Med - congrats! Djokovic will be back with a vengeance in Melbourne, that's for sure.

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

Yeah, Emma cited Li vs Schiavone RG final from 2011. She was also coached for a while by Nigel Sears. Her serve looks a little like Ivanovic's who he coached, albeit her ball toss isn't so wild. Emma reminds me of Li Na's game crossed with Halep's margin and poise. A good fit given her lineage.

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

Unbelievable! So tense! This is super, super sweet as a Brit. Also, incredible to see someone who cites Li Na as an idol win a major so soon after her retirement.

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

Fernandez seems to need to be down to play her best. Not sure how she just won 5 points in a row there, that was a massive opportunity for a break.

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

Emma had 4 days of rest between here 3x straight sets qualifying wins and her 1R straight sets win. I doubt that's much of a factor now, more it was an advantage to have played matches on the USO courts. It's not really different to other players playing a tournament the week before a slam - as...

2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)

I think Fernandez is playing well enough to win this title - she's certainly beaten far more decorated opponents. Having said that, she's played what, 4x 3-set matches in a row now? At what point does fatigue come into this? Raducanu hasn't had to play such established names in the game, but her...

Former WTA #38 Rebecca Marino (Can) is back! How far now?

She's up to 177 in the rankings (+43), so that's not too bad for a couple of wins. Sabalenka is ferocious, and in the form of her life so it's not a huge surprise that Marino didn't progress.

2021 WTA Tokyo Olympics - General Discussion

Nice win for them, but mixed doubles needs a rethink and overhaul of some kind. 16 teams is so limited. How many played the slams together this year as a warm-up? I would be intrigued to know. I would say doubles gold is equal to singles at the Olympics, even with 1 less round, but the mixed...

2021 WTA Tokyo Olympics - General Discussion

The same happened to Nadal at the 2016 Games - lost in the SF then lost the Bronze medal play-off to Nishikori, but the difference being that Nadal already had a gold in singles and went on to win the doubles gold at those games. I feel these were the last opportunities for Djokovic at the...

2021 WTA Tokyo Olympics - General Discussion

Good result IMO - this pairing are solid and they put the work in on the tour. It's nice to see countrywomen like Bencic/Golubic get together and pair up for the Olympics - maybe they'll play more on tour together now? I don't know if they even played any warm-up events together this year to...

Just because he went to a US university doesn't mean he's more American than Japanese. You don't think his Mum taught him anything? How do you know he didn't spend a lot of time in Japan over his lifetime on holidays, seeing family etc? I'm sure he feels Japanese! Question maybe should be why so...

In the singles draws on both the mens and womens sides, I don't think there has been a single upset today. Many matches seemed 50/50, but it seems the top players have all advanced unscathed.
