Beginner Serve Help Day 15 - Cartwheeling to Greatness

Looks good! It still looks like the grip is a bit off. It makes it appear that you have other issues with the serve when the grip is wrong. The racquet faces odd directions and your arm can’t move properly. I think that if you fix the grip, it will all look better. The deepest part of the “V” in...

How many things are wrong with my forehand!

Yeah, there is something to be said for getting the hitting elbow in line with the two shoulders. You are very athletic. You will be very good if you keep working at it.

How many things are wrong with my forehand!

There will be one person that will tell you to stop serving immediately before you hurt yourself. There are probably easier ways to get to the trophy position, but that is for a later time. Did you get that ball back? SpaceX would be proud. Anyway, I am flummoxed on the forehand. I do see one...

    Kick serve, or topspin serve?

Can I please be excluded? I already have a hole in my palm from trying to remove an avocado pit with a fork. I don’t need any more trouble.

Did you make any stroke changes? It looks different and better. Just the new angle?

How many things are wrong with my forehand!

No. It will flatten it out, but only in the times he does that. That is exactly what I stated. Did you miss the part where I mentioned the topspin lob situation - less forceful or slower build-up accel but accelerating? The point is, that is where the acceleration starts - at elbow drop. That is...

Serve problem. Unable to do correct serve motion when ball is in play

Very uplifting post! Motivational speaker by day?

I can't seem to ever find rhythm in doubles, AKA doubles sucks. . . . .ok it's me. but it still sucks.

Doubles is like a completely different sport. If you don’t enjoy it, don’t do it.

Yeah, if I were playing with a garage door I’d volley instead of ground strokes too.

How many things are wrong with my forehand!

Oh ok. Maybe Nadal and Federer had gene transplants since they were juniors. It is apparent their genetic predisposition let them hit bent arm forehands earlier in life. Different techniques. A guy making a living teaching tennis should be better than this.

Dumbest video ever made about tennis. Genetic predisposition. LMFAO.

How many things are wrong with my forehand!

Currently your swing starts too low, because you wait to accelerate into contact until you have dropped your elbow to its lowest point. The elbow dropping is part of the forward swing, not the backswing. If you are trying to rip a 100mph forehand, the elbow won’t make it down very far, ball...

How many things are wrong with my forehand!

Your forehand looks like this guy’s. One thing to possibly mess around with to see if it helps, is to a a essentially change the point from which you accelerate the racquet toward contact from. I mentioned in an earlier post, that it doesn’t look like the racquet and arm angle is optimal...

Loose grip on ground strokes - what is the biomechanical science?

Forty years of trying to hit on the sweet spot up in smoke. Too bad he didn’t elaborate on how to mishit serves, volleys and backhands so I get better results. Has wester European accent - advice must be legit.

Loose grip on ground strokes - what is the biomechanical science?

If you have a tight grip, your forearm muscles are tighter, shoulder muscles are tighter. A modern stroke with all the racquet movements via supination, pronation, lag etc happen to much greater effect when loose. To see the extreme, grab the handle like you are trying to crush it in your hand...

Beginner Serve Help Day 12 - Not twisting too early

will, it might be helpful to take a second video from the right side, now that you will be possibly using legs to push off into court. This will allow us to see how far into court toss is and your landing spot. Not critical, but helpful.

Beginner Serve Help Day 12 - Not twisting too early

I think the addition of the lower body/pushing off of the ground will take care of this. The low to high from knee bend to leg extension and jumping will naturally add necessary “brushing.” He has a good swing path now.

Beginner Serve Help Day 12 - Not twisting too early

Just watching some slo-mo YouTube of pros hitting serves should be enough to get lower body timing right. This opens up a whole new can of worms, so be patient. First you have to figure whether platform stance or pinpoint stance works for you. Once you decide, you have to make sure you continue...

There you go! When the toss is good, you are pretty set on the upper body. Time to get the legs involved.

Squeak your shoes and tap your racquet loudly on the court.

I just forgot how to hit my Single handed BH. Seriously.

What is in parentheses in 1) refutes your first sentence. Does anyone go out to learn tennis wanting anything other than a high level backhand? Who would take a lesson or ask for advice and say, “I don’t want to learn a good backhand, show me a bad one?”
