The "String your Poly at 40" challenge thread

What some think is great others will think not so great. Ive tried low tension with different strings and don’t care for it, if using a Kevlar main low tension is fine but not with any other string. I much prefer poly between 65-70 lbs.

The "String your Poly at 40" challenge thread

I’ve strung poly at 30,40,45, 50,55,60,65,70. I can play with any of those tensions especially when brand new, but do not like below 55lbs. Play much better with poly above 60lbs. But if some like low tension and can play well with it then great go for it, the lower tension is easier on the arm...

Hitting Through the Court vs Topspin Drive

This is a great explanation and at times I can hit the the fade spin and it definitely works. But I haven’t figured out how to hit like that more consistently, I end up going back to over the top conventional topspin.

Myth busted. Poly is way more powerful than Multi

I’ve found poly to be more powerful than a lot of multis also. It seems like multis or synthetic gut has a restricted flight built into them but polys don’t.

    Do you like oddball strings?

When you change to a new string job every half hour it’s completely different than what us amateurs use, like using poly for many days or weeks. There is no comparison because even a string that doesn’t last very long can play good when fresh. For years Rafa used a first generation poly I forget...

    Do you like oddball strings?

I’ve used poly for years between 60 and 70 lbs. and still do when I use poly but using Kevlar presently. I also use light rackets with high tension poly and no problems so far. My hitting partner uses Luxilon BB Ace at 70 lbs and has used that set up for years.

Andy Roddick also strung poly at 70lbs.

    Do you like oddball strings?

I agree I go back and forth between Poly and Kevlar and end up going back to Kevlar. Get tired of poly changing its playability and feel so quickly. Right now I’m using what many would consider oddball which is 17 gauge Ashaway Kevlar main with head 16 gauge Rip Control with both at 55lbs. This...

    Can a 4.0 beat a 5.0 ?

This is an accurate description of what a 4.0 would do against a 5.0.

    Can a 4.0 beat a 5.0 ?

Lol sorry but that is not going to happen, the 5.0 basically has no weaknesses compared to a 4.0. The 4.0 would be lucky to get 2 games a set.

    Can a 4.0 beat a 5.0 ?

The point you are missing is that a 4.0 player is never going to be in the set let alone close at the end of it.

    Can a 4.0 beat a 5.0 ?

In our club leagues there is no longer a 5.0 level and there are 4 doubles teams and only 1 singles player. The league’s are hard up for players so even if you win most of the time they will not bump you up.

    Can a 4.0 beat a 5.0 ?

A couple of years ago the best 4.0 player at my club was rated the top 4.0 USTA player in Chicago area. Occasionally the 4.5 team would have him play and the matches I saw he would lose like 1-1 or 2-2. A few years later this guy got good enough to play competitively at 4.5, but even then he...

If a player wins at a high percentage he will be bumped up to next level.

    Can a 4.0 beat a 5.0 ?

It’s a pretty big difference in singles play. There are doubles specialists that are 4.5 level in doubles but would not play at that level in singles. I’m referring to guys that regularly play singles in their 4.0 or 4.5 leagues. In this scenario it is possible for the 4.0 to maybe get a win but...

    Can a 4.0 beat a 5.0 ?

The 4.0 can try and be a wall all he wants and will still get spanked. Stay close until the end of the set now that’s hilarious, a 4.0 is never going to be close in a set against a 5.0 level player. It seems like many have not watched many 5.0 level players. I’ve never seen a 4.0 beat a 4.5 let...

I can't seem to ever find rhythm in doubles, AKA doubles sucks. . . . .ok it's me. but it still sucks.

In tennis there is always some ball retrieving time. But on average singles has much longer rally’s so much more actually hitting the ball. It always sucks if playing next to doubles teams because their errant shots are constantly coming into your court.

I can't seem to ever find rhythm in doubles, AKA doubles sucks. . . . .ok it's me. but it still sucks.

Actually I do like badminton it’s a fun game with a lot of movement and good rally’s. Unlike doubles which rarely has points that last over 3-4 shots. The majority of time in doubles is spent picking up balls and getting ready to serve. But it’s great for people that are overweight and out of...

I enjoy hitting ground strokes the most so that is another reason doubles is not for me.

I can't seem to ever find rhythm in doubles, AKA doubles sucks. . . . .ok it's me. but it still sucks.

I play it once in a while but it’s way too boring for me, I want to have to cover the entire court and hit the ball in every point.

The obvious reason junk ballers are so much better at match play than you are

Settle down I’m just stating what I have witnessed many times. Generally the guy that try’s to blast the pusher off the court ends up losing. My advise is to have patience and play the points out until you get a higher % shot to attack. Also it definitely helps if you have good approach shots...

how to stop playing too aggressively in matches

I guess I’m more the opposite I have a tendency to play too defensively and not go for my shots enough, it’s a fine balance between being too aggressive and too passive.

The obvious reason junk ballers are so much better at match play than you are

This is a good way to go after a very consistent player. But guys that think they are going to blast them off the court and finish points quickly are playing right into what a pusher wants them to do, again it can be done but you have to be very good at hitting aggressive shots and have a good...

The obvious reason junk ballers are so much better at match play than you are

This sounds good but unless you are really good at hitting aggressive shots a good pusher will beat this style most of the time. You are saying to use the strategy that a good pusher is looking for, they want you to go for big shots and play aggressively. If not at a high level this strategy...
