Playing Opportunities in Encinitas, Carlsbad & San Marcos

I'll be traveling to North County and San Diego over the next several months and would love to pick up some matches while there. Can any locals please share their insights about how and where I can pick up non-league singles and doubles matches? I prefer Men's 3.5 or Mixed Doubles 8.0 but, I...

What could the USTA do to increase participation...

If you join USTA, Tennislink dynamically posts "Events Near You" on the League page. Also, your USTA Section likely also has its own website that posts events including non-sanctioned tournaments. It could be easier.

What could the USTA do to increase participation...

In California and parts of Nevada, pickleball is spreading like the bubonic plague did. I've seen several public facilities convert 1/3rd of their tennis courts to pickleball. I know of a private tennis facility in SoCal that converted 3/5ths of their courts to pickleball and they've just...

What could the USTA do to increase participation...

You nailed it. My path was even worse since the Team Captain refused to play ANY new player and the private club that we all paid $300 per month (plus several $,$$$ in initiation fees) supported the policy. Talk about a clique!

When do you expect USTA ratings to come out?

BTW, if you have an Android phone don't waste your time looking for the USTA app. They only offer an app for iPhone users.

The net amount of service breaks does equate to the score.

I Am Really Starting To Hate Mixed Doubles...

I've played Mixed 7.0 for one season and, like you, decided against it for several reasons. First, as the USTA has acknowledged, genders of equal rating are not of equal ability. Women in the 3.5 - 4.0 level are more competitive with Men's 3.0 - 3.5. My own experience has proven this to be true...

Why are USTA’s dynamic ratings a big secret?

I understand that players want to think of ratings based on win/loss results. But, this is a mistake since neither the dynamic nor year-end NTRP ratings consider win/loss results in the methodology. The element that is considered is actual service breaks vs. estimated based on valid match play...

Why are USTA’s dynamic ratings a big secret?

I'd be wary of the Dynamic results on TR especially when "S" players participated in the matches (for either side). Self-rated players create nuances for the ratings of all of the players who participated in the matches with them because the results are not counted in the dynamic ratings...

An entire team walks off the court...need help with USTA rules

The courts should have been dry by 950 am? So, why the verbosity? Why didn't the home team (your team) prepare the courts as required?

Why are USTA’s dynamic ratings a big secret?

NTRP year-end ratings are due December 2 or 3rd. So, you won't have to wait to much longer! NTRP year-end ratings are disclosed in half-point increments with a certain designation letter. The letter "C" indicates that the rating was computed by the algorithm based on USTA match play.
