    Federer officially retiring (serious)

End of an era. Thanks for all of the memories Fed

So are we entering a dark era?

Guess not since the self-referential feedback loop in how everything feeds into the grand narrative of the Asterisk Era is incredibly strong.

So are we entering a dark era?

I mean, you do realize that things aren't stuck in stone right? Djokovic did recover, Ned didn't collapse, and for all of the memes and ****posts, the Next Gen put up some good performances as well. I originally didn't understand how people could have the mindset in which Fed's best years are...

So are we entering a dark era?

I think this is the only year so far that neither had a great tournament nor a consistently impressive level from either Nadal or Djokovic in the slams they've won. The combination of that and the Next Gen continuation of inconsistency is why 2022 has particularly been pretty bad. Just...

    Wimbledon Federer's 2nd Serve % Tournament Comparison

Wait do Federer fans think his 17 performance was weak or something? His draw/opponents stank for sure, but I thought it was well recognized 17 Grasserer was quite good.

How does this dude only have 3 US Opens

Huh? My position has always been AO: 7-3 RG: 5-5 WI: 3-7 US: 5-5 TBH though, I can easily see 6-4 and 4-6 for both AO and WI respectively and might favor that position. Fed's 14 and 15 WI performances all throughout the tournament are of course majorly underrated.

How does this dude only have 3 US Opens

No, it's because Djokovic's game induces errors and tightness unless you mean to tell me that Fed's game centers around high percentage tennis. Are you on the StrongRule "all of Djokovic's opponents magically get worse and start missing for no reason when they play him" grind now as well?

How does this dude only have 3 US Opens

I should have been clearer with my post I guess, but I don't even really disagree with most of your analysis. First set and until 4-1, Djokovic was outplaying Federer.

How does this dude only have 3 US Opens

I'll amend my statement. Medium mental Djokovic would have won that match in four or five.

How does this dude only have 3 US Opens

I regularly watch that match as a reminder that the only slam that Peak Federer would decisively beat Peak Djokovic would be Wimby.

Did we watch the same match?

How does this dude only have 3 US Opens

Watch the 2007 match. He gave up 5 set points in the first and was up a break in the second. A slightly mentally stronger Novak would have won it in four or five.

Federer fans, if Djokovic or Nadal surpass Federer’s slam count, will accept them as GOAT?

Of course it does? Novak was playing incredibly subpar tennis and by his own admission was on the brink of retirement. At best, Nole fans were looked at sympathetically and at worst, relentlessly and regularly mocked. Considering this was on era where some of the worst ****posters ran rampant...

Federer fans, if Djokovic or Nadal surpass Federer’s slam count, will accept them as GOAT?

Bumping one of my threads from four years ago I see. People don't remember how bad it was for Nole fans in early 2018.
  16. BrokenGears

Is Djokovic on course to become the best grass court player of all time?

He needs 9 Wimbledon titles to be the Wimby GOAT. Grass GOAT will take more titles as Pete/Fed as him beat in totality.

Rafa’s retirement gives us a better final — hear me out!

What's your prediction for the final?
  18. BrokenGears

    Does everyone understand the implications?

The level of frantic fanaticism from a certain contingent of people fans increases every time Djokovic approaches another Wimbledon title.

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

...Where in the world did you read into my posts that I believe that my beliefs are any more provable then yours? Seems like you're looking into a mirror man.

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

Buzzword after buzzword after buzzword. You're saying words that don't mean anything because there's no substance behind your accusations. There's no edifice for me to latch on to or care about when what you say they hinges on a preference of tennis I simply don't buy into.

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

You've said nothing quantifiable. Throwing buzzwords as well as ranting about a game and a quality of tennis that I don't like with the most surface level justifications is why much of your opinions on tennis mean literally nothing to me. " Reverse apologists " lmao. Do you ever read what you...

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

You're seeing a difference in quality I don't believe in. I don't think Federer's shotmaking is tougher to do and execute than what Djokovic does for his playstyle

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

Again dude, if you want to watch some of the type of tennis I despise the most, boot up some of that old grass and get to watching! I think it's some of the ****tiest, most unentertaining tennis imaginable and I thank the tennis gods they've slowed the game down, but everyone has different...

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

Yeah, I see no real inherent enjoyment in aces besides in tense moments. Rallies have so many more moving parts and are much more interesting for me easily. There's simply much more is going on with a variance in shots and pace. " Shotmaking quality " lmao. I don't derive much pleasure from...

2021 US Open SF: [1] Novak Djokovic vs. [4] Alexander Zverev

There's nothing enjoyable about the standard Federer match. If you wanna strawman, feel free, I just don't enjoy unentertaining two-shot rallies and volley fests. Much prefer watching Djokovic grind Zverev to dust and make him miss. Have always maintained that.
