    Interesting Match

I used a Prince X97 Tour for this match. 323g strung. Going from memory, I think I had 17g Weiss Cannon Scorpion strung at 48lbs in the mains and 17g Prince synthetic gut at 46lbs in the crosses.

The flip side of junk: at what level does pace become essential?

Maybe, but I'm betting my shots land in a lot more frequently :)

Is this serve good enough for 4.0?

No worries, it just struck me as amusing. Good luck in your quest!

Is this serve good enough for 4.0?

Me either. I'd rather be a strong 5.0, but such is life. ;)

I may be biased, but it's not a bad gig.

    Ian and GSG are back!

That's probably the case. Whenever I hit a good shot in warmups, I think "dang, I wish I had saved that for the match." :)

    Ian and GSG are back!

It's subjective of course, but I have some stretching I do before getting on the court which I take seriously. Once we start hitting in the warm-ups, I'm generally the first one to suggest we start the match. So there's an element of guesswork there as far as being fully warmed up.

    Ian and GSG are back!

I've most likely accumulated a host of minor injuries while continuously competing in sports for the last ~30 years with no sustained time off that continue to linger. I've always had the mindset of being willing to accept being about 80% healthy at any given time in exchange for 99+%...

    Ian and GSG are back!

Not really. Some forearm soreness, but I attribute that to playing as frequently as I do and using slightly heavier racquets these days. The match with the "Indian MEP" was 8-9 months ago. I wore a brace in that match due to TE-like symptoms, but as it turned out I had somehow bruised my elbow...

12 year old vs you know who

I guess it depends on your definition of "from scratch." It's almost impossible to completely avoid any exposure whatsoever to a mainstream sport growing up. For an apt comparison, let's take golf. I have been to a driving range and I have played mini golf. I have not, however, taken any golf...

Literally picking up a racquet and messing around, probably as a kid in gym class or something similar. Playing sets/matches, 2010.

12 year old vs you know who

LOL- that's one way to look at it. To me that's like saying a baseball player "plateaued" by becoming a consistent .300 hitter early in his career, but never becoming a .325 hitter.

12 year old vs you know who

The first year I played USTA was 2011, and as far as I recall I ended that year as a 3.0 C. I suppose it's possible that when I initially registered for leagues and filled out the questionnaire, I was initially marked as a 2.5, but I really don't remember at all. I played in some non-USTA...

I don't call anything anything. I mainly speak up when someone posts something objectively untrue about me. Otherwise, have at it.

12 year old vs you know who

Not by way of excuse, but the results bear me out. I consistently do not play as well at the venue where I played this match as I do at other places. This is probably the place where I have the worst W-L record of anywhere in Atl that I've played at least three matches. I'm not sure why that's...

On practicing, and the people that don't want to do it.

I guess it depends on how narrowly you define my "style," but I generally fare about as well as any other mid-level 4.5 in doubles. I try to keep the ball low and consistently hit the shot that will yield a predictable, manageable response.

Have any lefties played with the right-handed Twistpower X100 Tour?

Tough to say at this point since I have only had the X100 for a couple days and have only hit with it once. My X97 and X100 are also strung slightly differently (55 vs 53). I'll be in a better position to judge after more outings, and when I restring the X97 I'll string it with the same setup as...

Have any lefties played with the right-handed Twistpower X100 Tour?

I am left handed and I have played with the RH version of both the X97 and X100 Tour. I haven't tried (or even seen) a LH version, but I don't feel like using the RH version is hindering me. So far I like them both quite a bit.

Adult competition path for non-cheaters (singles)

Despite the order in which they were posted, the match with Maelstrom took place before the Essential Tennis matches. Since those matches, I have sporadically come to the net more, but I've yet to fully commit to making that more of my game. A goal of mine for 2022 is to not be as fixated on...

Actually, we have never played one another. We did come close in the Spring ladder playoffs this year, but he lost in the semifinal to the guy I beat to win the final.

They were, and I should know. I was the only person at States who played both of them, back to back on day one no less. Lucky me!
