It's a matter of preference until one gets injured. Stringing a poly in the 60's is extremely high, and not healthy in the long run.

Because it fits better those players with a OHBH and who hit through the ball with an Eastern grip on the FH. I have tried a number of 100 sq.in., and found that they were clunky on my OHBH, and I lacked control on the FH. I could probably play with a 98, but haven't found one that I really like.

You should consider yourself extremely lucky with your experience with Wilson. I bought 2 PS97 v11 a few years ago, and they were 10g and 5mm balance apart. One swung like a feather, the other like an anvil. Mine is hardly an isolated case, if you care to search for threads about Wilson QC (or...

Yonex 2023 Vcore 95 lead tape location recommendations?

Again, same experience here. 4G has a lot of well known qualities (tension maintenance, good spin, great control), but it's very stiff and causes soreness to my arm. 4G Soft retains most of the qualities of 4G, but is markedly more comfortable than the regular version, even if I wouldn't label...

Yonex 2023 Vcore 95 lead tape location recommendations?

I hear you. I too found that Confidential played really dead in all the frames I've tested it in. It's more consistent than Hyper G, which I like, but I have no feel for the ball with it. Also, for some reason I break it faster than any other poly I've ever played, especially in an open string...

    Probably an Angell TC97.

Yonex 2023 Vcore 95 lead tape location recommendations?

I have tried it with PT Strike at 47lbs and did not relly care for it. Felt pretty harsh and lacked pocketing. Harsher than 4G Soft at the same tension, which I think is a pretty good string for this frame as it tames the launch angle somewhat.

Yonex 2023 Vcore 95 lead tape location recommendations?

I have put 1.5g at 10 and 2 (3 each), and it's very stable, including on volleys. The racquet doesn't flutter in my hand.

Investing Advice from Tsitsipas: pure comedy gold

Can't figure out if this was done with a serious intent, or for a laugh. If it's the latter, it's good comedy. If it's the former, a tragedy.

Is 4G the perfect complementary cross string for gut?

Have you tried hybriding it with Triax? For me, gut is a no-go given the climate in Hong Kong, and I am a string breaker so I can't put a soft main (gut or multi) over a hard poly cross even if round. It would just break too fast. I really like 4G Soft 1.25, which I find very consistent and...

    2023 Yonex VCores

I would agree. The guy at MP Tennis is a good player, but he clearly isn't dialed in the frame so he's a bit erratic. I find the review of All Things Tennis more relevant, as it's coming from a high level player (ATP doubles ranking) who already uses the 21 version of the VC95. He's obviously...

    2023 Yonex VCores

I agree with you. I'm interested in the set-up of the pros, but that's mere curiosity rather than anything that's relevant to my game. Comparing my tennis to theirs is like comparing my driving experience to that of Lewis Hamilton. It's just a different planet. As for the VC95 SW, it seems it...

If you need a ball to go fast...

I regularly play with my 2021 caliber 3861 Speedmaster Hesalite. My go-to watch for sports is my fully tegimented Sinn U50 on a rubber NATO, but sometimes can't resist wearing the Speedy. Helps that I have a one handed backhand to not put too much strain on the movement.

    2023 Yonex VCores

Well, I disagree. I was taught as a 7 year old boy in the late 70's, on hard indoor in the winter and on clay in the summer, using a 66 sq.in. wooden racquet that would have weighted at least 330g unstrung, and this was a junior racquet at the time. All adult racquets would have come >350g...

    2023 Yonex VCores

Did you read nothing of I wrote before, or is it just way past your CPU for you to process? I am a guy who has bought numerous custom Angell's, a company famous for delivering these models within 1g and 1mm of desired specs, and matches the SW to boot. And I spent the money on TWE matching...

    2023 Yonex VCores

I'm afraid the only dense thing I see around is you. As for the VC95 v7, the pattern is more open than that of the Ezone 98. Make of that what you want. Also, you don't actually want the opinion of people of 4.0 and above who have tried this racquet, as me and others have already provided it...

    2023 Yonex VCores

Angell are relevant to this discussion as they are one of the rare manufacturers that still produce midsized racquets (heck, they even offer a TC90) and have found a faithful following in the niche of people who still care for such frames. As for relevance, you keep banging about high level /...

    2023 Yonex VCores

Funny you should mention the PS97, because I used to have a couple of v11's, which I sold precisely because they were hard on my elbow (that, and their atrocious QC which meant I had to heavily customize them to be vaguely matched). I've also hit a few times with a v13 and there too I found it a...

    2023 Yonex VCores

I play at a 4.5 level, and a couple of my hitting partners are at 5.0 and up. I never felt overpowered using my Angell TC95, or the few hits I have had with the VC95 since I got it 3 weeks ago. The TC95 16x19 actually has a remarkable level of power, the only knock I have on it is that it is a...

    2023 Yonex VCores

Have you even hit with it? This frame does not lack power, and the consistent feedback from almost all players who have tested (me included) it is that it's actually got good power for a 95 sq.in. Now, if power is a major consideration when picking a frame, you shouldn't look at a 95 sq.in. to...

    The Creamsicle Contender!

Your taste in watches matches your taste in strings, congratulations. I am a long time watch collector, and generally don't like many of the most recent Rolex offerings (too big and shiny for my liking), but the new Air King would be the exception. Of their entire current catalogue, this is the...

    Wilson Pro Staff V14.0

Very good review from Tan, per usual. Did anyone else notice the part where he said he measured 15 different frames, and the SW varied from <310 to 330? This is simply enormous, and another evidence of Wilson's terrible QC.

    2023 Yonex VCores

I'll be interested to read your account. As for using a control string like 4G or 4G Soft in a frame like the VC95, I firmly believe it needs to be kept in the mid 40's, otherwise you get nothing on the ball. Your arm will thank you, too.

    2023 Yonex VCores

I got a matched pair of 23 VC95 delivered to me last week. One strung with 4G Soft 1.25 and the other with Polytour Strike 1.25, both at 47lbs. 4G Soft is my go-to round poly when I want to tame somewhat a high launch angle, like the Angell TC95 16x19, and seeing that this version of the VC95...
  26. flanker2000fr

    2023 Yonex VCores

I'd love to be able to afford that, but seeing that I break a full bed of 1.30mm poly in an Angell TC95 16x19 in 8 hours, a gut set up is probably going to last me < 4 hours. Especially in HK, where the weather is very humid most of the year.

    The Official Angell Users Club

Hi guys, given the cult following of the TC95 in this thread, I thought you might be interested in a little write-up I did comparing the TC95 with the newly released Yonex Vcore 95. You can find it here: Vcore 2023 Thread Disclaimer: I am still very much an Angell guy, and I am pretty sure...

Head Tour / Tour XT balls drop in quality

I remember vividly when the port of Yantian (China) was locked down and created havoc across supply chains. That affected my company as well. But that was in June 2021, a long time before they changed the can to more sustainable material which occured in late 2022. My experience with the drop...

A few people are mentioning the Angell's, being part of the rare 95 / midsize still available in the market, in relation to the new Vcore 95. Since I've been playing Angell racquets for 3 years, and have been able to have a couple of hits with the matched Vcore 95's I got from TWE this week, I...
