All this customization talk makes me glad I went with a lower spec 97H. I've got a strung SW of 335 and don't have to mess around with lead tape. It's just simpler and plays solid as a tank.
I hate VDM in any Yonex racquet. The main thing I don't like about the new VCP is the lack of feel because of it. But that ship has sailed it would seem.
I'm planning to try a Klip Legend/Ghostwire hybrid in my VCP 97H pretty soon. Since GW is a soft poly, are you guy stringing it at a higher tension to compensate? My usual hybrid setup is Klip Legend 1.25 & Max Power 1.20 @ 58/55 lbs.
Gamma RZR Tac is a lot more tacky feeling than regular Yonex Supergrap. It doesn't feel at all the same, at least when fresh. Pretty sure it's slightly wider as well.
Are you genuinely shocked that pros endorse things they don't actually use? The paintjob thing has been going on in professional tennis for a long time. You might also be shocked to hear that even the shoes top pros wear are often different than what they actually endorse. Pretty much everything...
I love Stan, but could never play with his actual racquet. The thing is an absolute beast.

Whatever you do, do not get her a Pure Drive. That's only going to make it worse. All things considered, I think a Wilson Clash would be a good choice for her. Also, strings make a huge difference when it comes to TE. So, definitely don't use full poly in any racquet. If you have to use poly...
Yeah that’s super low for the 97D. I just demoed one from a local shop and the strung SW on that one was 335. I have to admit Yonex QC has disappointed on this release. Really hope they get it sorted out. I know SW is hard to get exact, but there should be an industry standard tolerance of +/- 5...
What was the SW on yours before adding lead? Seems like swingweights are all over the place on this line. The VCP97 I demoed had a strung SW of only 308 which is crazy low.
Literally no major manufacturer guarantees swingweight though. Wilson is charging even more for Pro Staffs than Yonex is for VCP's and their QC is total garbage. It would be nice if SW was guaranteed, but I don't see it happening due to cost.
My current setup on the 97H is Luxilon Gut mains & Poly Tour Strike crosses @ 58/55. I find it to be a very comfortable but also pretty powerful setup. I'm still adjusting to the extra power and higher launch angle compared to the HD.
IME the original color of any poly is the one to go with. For whatever reason, different color dyes subtly affect the playability of strings. Most casuals don't notice, but equipment nerds like us almost always do.
My 97H feels great with gut mains/poly crosses. It really improves the feel compared to full poly IMO. I imagine it would be even better in the 310 since it's a less powerful frame.
