I Stand By Bouchard: Leader of the Genie Army, Ready to Rise and Conquer the World!

Based on your knowledge, when is the last time when she played FedCup for Canada and when is the last time she won a match for Canada? I'll save you the trouble .... She hasn't played FedCup since 2015 !!!! Remember that embarrassing (mostly for the country) episode with the handshake followed...

I Stand By Bouchard: Leader of the Genie Army, Ready to Rise and Conquer the World!

I wonder if Tennis Canada will waste (once again) a wild card for the main draw on Bouchard for Rogers Cup. The qualification entry list features pretty decent players so I don't see her making it into the main draw if she needs to play for it.

Right question to ask is how many points you get if you lose the 1st round. The answer is 1 point.

Great hope Halep - How far now?

According to Romanian media, Simona will receive the National Order "The Star of Romania" (highest civil decoration in Romania) from the Romanian President (who BTW is a tennis fan and recreational player). She will also be the flag bearer for Romania for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Great hope Halep - How far now?

Some ranking stuff for Rogers Cup where she has the title and 900 points to defend. * She can't go higher than #4 before Rogers Cup as Barty, Osaka, Pliskova have no points to defend before Rogers Cup. * Barty has 350 points to defend from last year SF (she lost to Halep). The other 2 have...

I Stand By Bouchard: Leader of the Genie Army, Ready to Rise and Conquer the World!

@Harry_Wild: Not that her tennis career really matters at all, but did you know your girl is trying to play a tennis match in Lausanne next week? She plays a girl named Tamara Korpatsch from Germany tomorrow in the first round. I miss your fictional WHAT IF scenarios with points, rankings and...

Great hope Halep - How far now?

It's all hard court from now on to the end of the season. Yes. She did quite well at Rogers Cup in the past 4 years - F, SF in Toronto (2015, 2017) and won twice in Montreal (2016, 2018). Cincinnati she played 3 Finals (2015, 2017, 2018) and I think a SF (2016) in the same period, all lost...

Great hope Halep - How far now?

For sure she'll probably show up in the stands and have plenty of media and public attention even if she doesn't play. Going back on clay from grass and before hard doesn't make a lot of sense for her at this point.

Great hope Halep - How far now?

Good thing is that the 1500 points at Toronto and Cincinnati are all she needs to defend from last year for the rest of the season so she still has a good shot for YE#1 provided she is healthy and plays decently well for the hard season and finals. She is #2 in the race now less than 500 points...

    2019 Wimbledon - Women's Singles - General Discussion

Because no one before the final put so much pressure on her physically and mentally, returned so many balls - both serve and ground strokes and made her to play the extra ball and eventually throw her off balance.

Great hope Halep - How far now?

Not anytime soon. She may actually drop before USO unless she defends her W and F at Toronto and Cincinnati. Barty, Osaka, Pliskova don't have much to defend before USO ( Toronto SF for Barty is the highest).

Great hope Halep - How far now?

Outstanding performance, outstanding result..... Congrats Simona! Now she needs AO or USO or both next..... Doable I think if she can play the tennis she played today and truly believe she can do it again. I think Wimbledon was the least likely GS to win for her but now that that hurdle is out...

    2019 Wimbledon - Women's Singles - General Discussion

You may be right and you certainly are regarding Riske beating Barty and Bencic but I don't believe transitivity applies to tennis and sports in general. Who would've thought Gauff would win 3 main draw matches or Vondrousova would make RG final. My point is some of these upcoming youngsters...

    2019 Wimbledon - Women's Singles - General Discussion

IMO Riske is not the kind of player to take out Serena no matter how "in form" she appears to be against lesser players.... It would take more than that even against this version of Serena. I'm thinking more like Barty, Bencic, Kerber (not in form but she can raise to the occasion), Kvitova...

    2019 Wimbledon - Women's Singles - General Discussion

What is amazing again is how Serena got to another GS final without the slightest challenge from a half-decent, in-form player. She only played Tier 3+ players to get to the final, which definitely helped her to work herself into the form for the final day and probably win it.

Wimbledon 2019 SF: S Williams vs. B Strykova

She's up 4-1 despite relatively sloppy play. The value gap, pressure, is too big between the two, which gives Serena a lot of room for errors.

Agree. But Halep is not reliable in the big finals either these days. I'd give Strycova or Svitolina a better chance to take Serena out. I wish Halep to prove me wrong (I want her to win the title) but objectively, I think she reached the final destination in this tournament.

Interestingly enough, Svitolina did not play Strycova since 2014, before Svitolina became a thing, so it's unknown how they match up against each other now.

    2019 Wimbledon - Women's Singles - General Discussion

In the event of a Serena-Halep final it will be almost guaranteed Serena will get her #24. I don't trust Halep to make the match of her life to win the Wimbledon against Serena. IF (and it's a big IF) Halep makes the final, her only chance to win the title is if Strycova upsets Serena tomorrow...

Wimbledon 2019 SF: Elina Svitolina (8) v Simona Halep (7)

I'd like Halep to win but IMO it's 50-50 chance. H2H means nothing and so is the mediocre season Svitolina had so far. It all comes down to who can notch the other in the big day.

I would give Serena the first chance to win the SF and even the title but in the same time no one should forget the 2015 USO SF when she was at peak and on the verge of one of the most prestigious, unique, career defining, achievements - CYGS and then the unthinkable happened.
