    Stop floating your backhand slice!

When watching this video, i put it at .25 speed. Notice how when you take the racquet back, you flatten it to the sky and farther away from your head and then straighten your elbow really early in the stroke. I wonder if this causing you to drive it more linearly to make up for the loss of...

“What are the components of a good tennis serve”

Wow trying to describe while learning a language. For me the "toss" starts when the ball is released. Moving, swinging the arm is not the "toss". The racquet doesn't follow the path toward the target on slice or topspin serves. Too much generalization.

    Serve supination

I'm hear you on this less than 90 degree thing. My drill coach tells me i'm not bending it enough but it feels odd. It seems the higher up you can raise your elbow the less you'll need to bend the elbow past 90 degrees. My bicep and forearm prevent it from going past 45 degrees.

    Serve supination

I have no reason to disagree with you that it can be done wrong. Something needs to start the motion. I think what i'm doing is starting the leg drive and elbow up nearly simulataneously. Try in a sitting or standing position driving your elbow from "elbow enemy" to up above your head. What...

    Serve supination

Ryan posted video showing the importance of the elbow drive. This has transformed my serve consistency due to the acceleration.

“Cocked” wrist is a game changer

Yeah, hit it down the line, they are attacking your backhand because they think their's is better so hit a few cross court, if you get a short one bury it in their forehand corner.

“Cocked” wrist is a game changer

Like the serve and forehand, racquet head speed/acceleration. If you hesitate a little and catch it fat, it's going to fly long. But being able to gain the control to hit it at 50%,60%,70% 80% 90% instead of only having either 40% or 85% (trying to make progress here). A good hip drive to get a...

“Cocked” wrist is a game changer

Had a lesson with a former pro who told me to keep a loose arm. So I took that advice and it kind of worked. Years later I added some changes that seem to be working better. 1. Make sure your other arm holds up and stabilizes the racquet as you take it back. As you place it in the slot with...

    Serve supination

So in otherwords I don't think about or try to influence the racquet drop, once I start towards the salute/Party hat I immediately drive the elbow up thats all I think about, then as the elbow is nearly where I want it (straight up near my ear for flat, slice or slightly to the right for...

    Serve supination

My recent breakthrough in getting massive spin on the serve revolves around the elbow. At this point (which may change) is that the racquet drop loading is driven by driving/accelerating the elbow up. I do preload the supinating of the forearm as eah123 suggests but currently the supinating is...

    The Jollettieri Academy: Lesson 2

My coach said to drop left foot back to hit inside in forehand, does that sound right? It seemed to work when I tried it. I'm starting to work my Quads on the leg press machine. It seems my nerves to move my legs are working faster and more efficient.

Talk about your most discouraging moments in tennis. How did you respond?

Cool that you mustered a comeback, eventhough you came up short. Event planners should have spaced things out better. You were the better player, hopefully you get another chance in future match.

    Demand to serve properly

I blast a lot of serves, sometimes they don't come back other times they are return winners I can't get to. When I throw in a slow off speed pitch many times the returner dumps it in the net or sails it over the sidelines. Variation can earn you some points.

Shot Tolerance: The ugly beast at every court

My whole point is why spot them any points, unless your in some kind of a rush to finish a best of 5 sets in 20 minutes. For the "spotted" points just go easier on them hit it so you'll get a shot back, treat them like a student and when you get bored finish the point or let them finish it. If...

Shot Tolerance: The ugly beast at every court

I would never spot points or accept them. It's just not part of the game I would enter into. It's a way to focus on the score as opposed to playing points. If I play a less experienced player I would hit some shots to them focus on my consistency and their development occasionally hit...
