Choosing a stringer. Opinions on route to take

I've used a Klippermate before and have owned multiple Gamma crank machines over the years. I currently have a Gamma 6004 and don't feel like I'll ever need to upgrade unless I decide I really want a Wise tensioner at some point. I find the quality of base clamps to make a huge difference in...

What do you guys think of ping pong?

I just looked it up, and current pros in the US are in the 2700+ range. I got over 2000 for a year or two, but I can guarantee I was not able to compete with any pros or former pros. In my state, Alabama, which is by no means a hub of table tennis talent, I have been as high as 5th in the state...

What do you guys think of ping pong?

I've got two kids with close to zero interest in ping pong. I have a super-nice Butterfly table in my basement, and I can't get them excited about playing yet. They're still young, so I'm holding out hope for the future!

What do you guys think of ping pong?

I know this is an ancient thread, but I wanted to check in with any of you tennis players that also play competitive table tennis. With the growing popularity of UTR, I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on how to compare USATT ratings vs UTR ratings. I used to think I was comparable to a USTA...

Need some recommendations for tension on a full bed of Ghost Wire. I use leaded up Yonex Ai98’s. I have been stringing Black Knight at 47/45. I was thinking of going up to 51/49 since GW is so soft but would like to hear from you guys that have used it full bed.

So Tsonga's performance is well respected but Gonzo's demolition jobs in AO 2007 are swept under the rug?

I always liked watching Gonzo play. It was exciting because you knew every once in a while he was capable of some really crazy stuff. At his best, like Stan, he could beat absolutely anyone on a given day.

    Are yonex overgrips any good

Have used them for years and years. I like black Supergraps the best.

    Mizuno USA Tennis Official

@Mizuno USA Official When it comes to your shoes, specifically the Wave Exceed Tour 3, is there any difference in men’s and women’s shoes if accounting for the sizing difference? I know some brands make women’s shoes narrower than men’s. I’m thinking about getting a women’s size 11 but want to...

    Asics Gel Resolution 8

@Nogo I would advise you to never use clay-court shoes on hard courts. They will wear down super fast. It's fine to use hard court/all court shoes on clay though. I've found it is totally worth it to have clay shoes for clay courts and hard court shoes for hard courts. I've found clay shoes...

    Grapplesnake Irukandji

I may have to give this a try with Tonic mains. Would it be recommended to string the gut and Irukandji at the same tension? I usually string my poly crosses 3-4 pounds lower than my gut mains.

    Yonex Polytour Fan Club

In case people were unaware, you can get a reel of PTP shipped with tracking number from the UK for $91.04 from a certain "depot". Their shipping charge and retail price is quite a bit lower than TWE and worlds cheaper than TW in the US.

I string all my racquets myself on a Gamma 6004 lock-out machine. Most of my Tonic/Poly hybrids are between 55-58lbs in the mains and 52-54 in the crosses.

I personally didn't like cream as a cross to gut. It broke in the crosses twice on me. This has never happened with any other string I've tried as a cross with gut. I only remember it being soft but not particularly slick. Ghost Wire is a comfortable, stable cross for gut. I have used Wilson...

    Tier One Sports

@myth I'd try Ghost Wire if you are confining your choices to Tier One offerings. I've used Babolat Tonic Longevity mains with Ghost Wire 1.27 or 1.22 crosses.

Klip $29. VS Tonic $36. VS Touch $42. Which to buy?

I recommend Tonic for $26.82 at a certain "depot" in the UK.

And where do you buy Alpha strings?

    Yonex Ezone Ai 98

    Agreed.

    The gut/poly thread

Babolat gut is always on sale in the UK. Check a few vendors. I buy almost all my strings from Europe. Even with shipping it’s quite a bit cheaper.

    Yonex quality control -- insane

Just to counter this with my own experience, I have 4 Ai98’s and the heaviest one weighs 7g more than the lightest one. That’s not stellar in my opinion. I have matched them all as best I can, but I was hoping for better after all the Yonex quality control talk here on forum.

Cheaper Alternative to Yonex Poly Tour Pro 125 in Hybrid Setup

I think the OP is confusing durability with “not breaking”. YPTP, like every poly string, may not break as quickly as a multi, but that doesn’t mean you should continue hitting with it until it does break. I personally wouldn’t recommend using poly mains for more than 10-12 hours. I usually cut...

    Mizuno Wave Exceed Tour 4

@tomato123 Were you referring to the first generation Asics Court FF's or the newer FF2's? I have the original Court FF and like it a lot, so I'd just like to know which version you were comparing these Mizuno's to.

    Yonex Ezone DR CLUB!!!!~~~!!!

I finally broke down and bought a used DR98 to compare my old faithful Ai98's (x3). I found it very similar, but I find I can swing out with more control with the Ai98 using the same string setup. This may be due to the fact that I've been using these Ai's for 4-5 years now and am extremely...

    Anyone super picky about socks?

@mctennis First off, I assume you meant to say "sweat", haha. This is a common misconception about wool, specifically merino wool. It actually regulates the temp in either cold or hot conditions making the socks great for any season. The wool is also naturally anti-microbial, so you'll find your...

    Anyone super picky about socks?

I'm definitely a sock snob. I have found merino wool socks to be the best for everyday use as well as tennis. I buy quite a few different brands, but my favorites are Swiftwick (their Pursuit line is the wool blend), Darn Tough (great socks with a lifetime warranty), and Feetures (Merino 10 line).

    Mizuno Wave Exceed Tour 4

I just got an email from Mizuno announcing the new Wave Exceed Tour 4. I was on the cusp of buying the previous model but think I’ll wait to see the reviews for these. Tons of pros were using the Wave Exceed Tour 3, so I would assume most will move to this new model if it’s an improvement. Has...

    Yonex EZONE 2020 AO

Still use 3 Ai98’s as my main sticks. Everytime I try to make a switch to something new, I think I may have found a winner to replace the Ai’s. But when I come back to the Ai it just feels right, and I seem to win more matches. I almost switched to a Prince Textreme Tour 310 recently but found...
