First real minimalist tennis shoe coming soon

I have played in them three times now --once for singles and two doubles sessions. I have been playing in inov-8 trailroc 235's, and I must say that I didn't really notice the new balance's at all when I played, and that is good. For comparison, the inov-8's weigh 9oz, the mc60's in size 12...

    Mantis PRO 295

Hi all, I just wanted to see if anyone else is still loving their Mantis Pro 295. I have been loving the racquet and am currently platooning 4 of them in a heavily polarized config around 350g strung. Has anyone tried modifying the newer heavier version? I am curious as to whether it is...

Minimalist Shoes ---- Traction that allows sliding

I have settled on the Inov-8 trailroc 245. The 235 is a little lighter and more flexible, but I like the 245 myself. There is another thread on here somewhere on this topic, and the Merrell line got some love.

    Nobody ever talks about LOTTO

Quaranta II Are the Lotto Quaranta II shoes stiff? Anybody know what kind of differential the Quaranta II's have between heel and forefoot? Thanks

Any other shorts similar to Djoker's slimfit/narrow leg Uniqlos ??

kswiss boardshorts The Kswiss board shorts are slim fit with narrow legs. TW does not have any currently, and I do not know if the boardshort will return to the kswiss lineup, but they were a fixture in their catalog for quite a while.

    Ashaway 100% Zyex monofilament

Stringing this on a Klipper I tried to string the red zx on my Klipper yesterday -- I was really looking forward to a ZX/Poly hybrid trial. Anyway, it broke twice, in different locations each time. So, I am out of the red ZX, but I have another pack of the natural. I was attempting to...

I have added loctite putty in the handle of mine.

    Switching racquets, and hand pain

anecdotal evidence Even though you don't have any arm pain, don't rule out issues farther north of your wrist. It could be an issue with nerves being influenced by inflamed tendons+muscles well up the arm. At the moment, most of my arm/elbow pain is gone, but I still have wrist pain and grip...

    Mini review: Mantis pro 295

I am still playing with a Mantis Pro 295 I got a hold of one shortly after Anton started his thread regarding this frame. Due to arm issues, I switched from stiffer, heavier racquets to the Mantis Pro 295 -- and I still view it as an interim frame for me. However, it will be harder to beat it...

    Mantis PRO 295

With a leather grip, some tacky gum in the trap door, string, and an overgrip, it weighs ~334g (and is something like 10pts headlight) -- just add some head protection tape and you are at 12 oz with no lead required.

    Mantis PRO 295

I haven't played with the Mantis 305 (or the Head Radical MG). I find the racquet to be comfortable, but I haven't tinkered with it enough to give you a ruling on the spin-potential. I finally cut out the string and replaced with a gut/poly hybrid, so I am getting closer to a verdict.

    Mantis PRO 295

Anton, sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you -- let me know if it needs a rescue (you wouldn't even have to take the lead off). I finally hit with it today -- the results were pretty good, though I need to move some of the weight around. I was splitting time between the Mantis and a...

    Mantis PRO 295

I've added 6g to the hoop and 22g to the handle -- total is now 336g, balance around 6pts headlight. I have a court date on Sunday to try it out.

    Mantis PRO 295

LOL -- wasn't my choice, picked up a slightly used one. Arrived today, beautiful racquet, feels great as is in the living room -- but I know better than to try and make it work stock.

Ever try a Klipper stringing machine?

I've been using one for a few years -- but it still takes me over an hour to setup and string a racquet. Table height makes a pretty big difference in ergonomic usability -- has anyone tried the stand for it that Klipper sells?

    Mantis PRO 295

Racquet should arrive today, with MSV Soft-touch 17g at 50/54. I am interested in how that string plays, but I generally prefer the poly. I hope you can get the trajectory you need with the full poly string bed. I've been hitting with a 16x18 95", so I might prove to be more accustomed to...

    Mantis PRO 295

I may work up to your setup, Anton -- going to see where I am with overgrips and 1-2 grams on the handle, then add weight at 10, 12, and 2 to correct the balance as necessary. I want to play around with a lower overall weight, but I do expect to end up with something close to your setup (340g)...

    Mantis PRO 295

I just pulled the trigger on one of these -- both dreading and looking forward to the customization process. I expect my final destination to be around 340g, 6pts head light, gut/poly hybrid -- but of course that is merely speculation.

    Minimalist shoes for Tennis?

shoe addiction I have to admit being a wee bit excited about the new New Balance 996 that is about to become available -- it may not be "minimalist", but I like the idea of the mc 851 and this should theoretically be an iterative improvement. Slightly less excited about the new Wilson Pro...

    Yamaha Secret 10 & 10II

Just the facts....sort of Since some might rely on posts like this for customization or such, I need to point out that the weights and balance that I previously posted were not with "naked" racquets. Each had overgrips and some amount of protection tape -- the 04 with a ludicrous amount...

    Mantis PRO 295

comfort level? Anton, since you have played with the 285 with similar customization efforts, I would value your opinion regarding the relative stiffness of the 285 and 295. TW lists the RA of the Mantis 285 as 66, and the Mantis 300 and Tour 305 as 67. The Pro 295 RA RDC of 60 looks good...

    Yamaha Secret 10 & 10II

Ack! I reversed the weights of the two racquets. The 04 was the 13 and 1/8 oz beast. The 10II is lighter, but it's balance is more head heavy. Sorry about the confusion.

    Yamaha Secret 10 & 10II

04=13oz 10II=13 1/8 oz 04 was indeed slightly more head light

    Yamaha Secret 10 & 10II

I have a 10II at home -- will try to weigh it and post later. I used to play with a Secret 04 and found the 10II to be more stable or maybe more head heavy -- it's been a while, but I remember that I found the 10II worked well when "blocking" back hard serves, and when serving, but was...

    Minimalist shoes for Tennis?

@6LOVE I might try the Merrell's -- I didn't like the vibram outsoles in my New Balance's but I'll check out the Merrell's. @loosegroove -- There is a huge difference between "minimalist" shoes that strive to make you feel as if you are not wearing a shoe at all, and Chuck Taylors. The...

    Minimalist shoes for Tennis?

I play in Inov-8s (f-lite 230s, bare-x 155, bare-x 150, whatever acceptable model happens to have had the cheapest price at the time I needed a refill). Playing on hard courts with minimalist shoes forces you to change your footwork, and I would say for the better. I certainly feel that I can...

    Merrell Barefoot Run Road Glove

I have also gone to a minimalist shoe – I didn’t think it would work, but the difference is amazing on the court. That said, it is much more expensive. I’ve been going through Inov-8’s in about two months. I had better luck with durability with some of the New Balance with Vibram...
