2018 ATP Finals: Federer (2) vs Anderson (4)

Yes, absolutely! But I must admit that despite being a Federer fan I’m not the biggest supporter of this Round Robin format either. It was too often already that a player lost to another one in final after beating him in group stage before, making the first match worthless. Remember Federer...

2018 ATP Finals: Federer (2) vs Anderson (4)

Yes, that’s right as I said in my other post. I cannot support your prayer though... However, I hope Federer just wins, because it would be disappointing if he has to rely on lucky circumstances that much. But who knows, maybe he wants to make a mockery of the Round Robin concept and be...

2018 ATP Finals: Federer (2) vs Anderson (4)

Would make more sense, but according to Wikipedia it is ranking as next factor in 3-way-ties. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_ATP_Finals_%E2%80%93_Singles Or does this only mean if all 3 players are exactly equal until the last factor (game percentage), and if not it is counted as newly...

2018 ATP Finals: Federer (2) vs Anderson (4)

Even 5 games would be enough, if it isn’t 5-7, 0-6 (5-13). Because with a 2-6, 3-6 or 1-6, 4-6 (5-12) he will have the exact same game difference as Thiem (26-30), and then ATP ranking will decide.

The day federer REFUSED to break serve

To be fair, most of the break points were brilliantly saved by Nadal. But still we must say that Federer didn’t play those points as great as he created his chances before, that’s for sure. Another very interesting unveiling of this match was the first serve percentage of Federer and what it...

2018 ATP Finals: Federer (2) vs Anderson (4)

Nice covering of all possible scenarios here. What I really don’t understand: Why does Federer (or any player) choose receiving at the start of a match in RR when games percentage can matter? Today he finished with a break anyway, but in about 50 % of the matches the player who starts serving...

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Dominic Thiem (6)

He didn’t say he meant the whole year, but only this tournament. And I believe him, because why on earth should he play Paris Masters otherwise?

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Dominic Thiem (6)

On German version of pay TV channel Sky. And he said it in German, so I translated it. All started with a rather stupid question. “You have a new nickname: ‘Grumpy Fed’. Why were you so grumpy on Sunday? I thought he would be a bit angry about this question, but no. And then he said all that...

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Dominic Thiem (6)

Yeah, seriously. But there was no arrogance in it like PseudoFed (who sometimes is really funny by the way), but rather indifference. Still I’m suprised that he just openly says so. Maybe I would understand a little bit if someone of his calibre isn’t that motivated in the first RR match...

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Dominic Thiem (6)

Federer just admitted in an interview on German TV that he wasn’t really motivated to play this tournament. Then yesterday he allegedly considered to just go on vacation, before finally he decided to give it a serious try against Thiem. Then he honestly said this tournament is “nothing special”...

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Dominic Thiem (6)

Yes, he is out with a loss because then he cannot overtake Anderson anymore and also there has to be a winner between Thiem and Nishikori who also has 2 wins then. Only if one of these 2 cannot play the 3rd match and is replaced by another player Federer could still qualify then. But that won’t...

Federer blocking on-court coaching at ATP

Come on, the main factor was the Rome 2006 final between Roger AND Rafa, who both skipped Hamburg after that. No need to blame Roger alone, espiecially since he said multiple times that he would like to have Best of 5 finals back.

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Kei Nishikori (7)

I don’t mean against anyone. That would be arrogant. But Nishikori normally has nothing to hurt him with. He is just not in his league anyway AND has a matchup problem due to his serve. No need to deny the truth here. By the way, as you mentioned Kohlschreiber: His success rate against the big 3...

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Kei Nishikori (7)

Of course I watched it, like every Federer match. Nishikori’s serve is usually too bad to be a real threat. Momentum or not, if Federer plays a normal set, he wins. But today he played one of the worst matches of 2018, if not the worst outright.

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Kei Nishikori (7)

It didn’t look like that. Nishikori was one of the few players Federer had NO trouble with during the last tournaments. Both wins were in straight sets. He could only beat Federer today because Roger was absolutely abysmal.

    2018 WTF : Roger Federer(2) vs Kei Nishikori (7)

I know you are joking, but honestly, what should it matter anyway? Both SF and F are Best of 3, and the race for #1 is already over. Honestly, all I care for is Federer having a good off-season and being back near his best at Australia.

Pete Sampras : What are his best performances ?

Must have missed it then. Don’t know when it was, but I was absent from the forum for a few weeks after Wimbledon. I will write you again about this in a few weeks from now, when my list is finished. Maybe I’ll make a Google document or something else then. After that I try Youtube and if that...

Pete Sampras : What are his best performances ?

Yeah, many people do that on Youtube. I think sometimes it is to fool automatic copyright research programs, but sometimes only to make their videos longer. But it is strange that someone sold such a version. By the way, as we talk about Sampras matches: Can you remember the Youtube channel...

Pete Sampras : What are his best performances ?

Yes, I have it. I am just about finishing a list of all my matches and then start a Youtube channel again (for full matches, highlights and also a bit of other sports). That will be nice work for the off-season. If it will be deleted or not possible because of copyright issues, I’ll have to find...

Pete Sampras : What are his best performances ?

The video is already over around 2:29:25 at 4:3 in the last TB. Sampras won it 7:5, so really 5 points are missing. Then the 3rd set is shown again (also again exactly until 4:3 in the TB).

Pete Sampras : What are his best performances ?

I would extremely love to see the 1993 Grand Slam Cup match against Korda, but never found it anywhere as a full match. @OP Some more matches you should try: Close matches: 1990 US Open QF vs Lendl 1994 Australian Open R64 vs Kafelnikov 1995 Davis Cup Final vs Chesnokov 2002 US Open R32 vs...

WHO ARE THE 20 BEST CLAY COURT PLAYERS EVER?

Why unpopular? They could very well even be #2 without Nadal and without each other. I’m quite sure with Borg’s competition they would have 6 or more RG titles. Even against Borg himself I see them winning more often then not. I have watched Borg’s great finals in the last off-season, and I must...

Must See Tennis All in One Evening

Honestly Meles, seconds ago when I saw the thread title I thought: „Nice, there is a TV channel who shows great classic highlights for a full evening?“ And then I opened the thread and thought: “Oh well, it’s next gen finals this week. Damn!” :D But anyway, I know you like it, so have fun! ;)

    Regarding mental strength / willpower...

For me in tennis both is exactly the same, because there is only winning or losing. In football it is different, because a draw is possible. But honestly, in my youth when I played tennis (not on a very high level, but in very competitive times in my local club with many players of my age...

Federer and Djokovic just don't like eachother

Say what you want about them, but the way how they looked at each other after Federer imitated the legendary Djokovic US Open 2011 return at 6-5 in the 3rd set was anything but “hate”. It was like old buddies with one saying: “Now I have my little revenge on you after all these years”. And the...

If,.....if Novak didn’t twist his ankle on the first ball of last tie breaker

I don’t want to generally agree with the OP, because it sounds too weird. But I remember at least one situation with Murray which was exactly the same. I think it was in Indian Wells 2009 when it was a completely open match until Murray fell on the court with a horrific scream. After that it was...

    Roger’s defeatist mindset

He didn’t lose because of his age or fatigue, it was really a mental problem again. As you said, he never was good in 3rd set tiebreaks. Normally he only won them in clutch style against opponents who normally were clearly inferior like Rochus at Halle 2006 or Mayer in Shanghai 2014. But he...

    Nothing but respect for Federer

This man still rightly belongs to the 3 best players in the world and today barely loses to the very best. And he should play tennis against people who cannot trouble him one bit, on the senior tour? Sorry, but that is just utter nonsense. That’s like telling one of the best 16-year-olds to...

99 Sampras vs 06 Federer, Wimbledon - Who's your pick?

Nobody would say that, but the question is who would win between peak Sampras and Federer. Therefore we must consider how Pete actually played, and not how he would have played in 2006 or even now. Otherwise it wouldn't be comparing to Pete, but rather to a totally hypothecical player that...

99 Sampras vs 06 Federer, Wimbledon - Who's your pick?

Federer would win by a country mile. I was a big Sampras fan in my childhood/youth and watched that 1999 final live. I also re-watched it two years ago or so. It clearly was a good performance, but nevertheless I have no idea why this match became so legendary for some people. I mean, he beat...
