Thiem not a fan of the French Open balls: "they will change the result"

Football (American) Weather conditions can radically affect the game. A high powered passing offense can be completely neutralized by wind, rain, snow, etc.

Yes, flu kills a lot of people every year. It sickens tens of millions and sends loads of people to the hospital. And our health care system has developed to be able to handle a reasonably normal flu season along with all the other "normal" stuff. Now we're throwing another major virus...

State of Washington closure announcement includes gyms, fitness centers, and rec facilities. Closure email from tennis club followed shortly after. Through March 31 (for now - I fully expect it to extend longer).

And how many cases of that were confirmed at the 4-5 week point? About 100. How many confirmed deaths at the 6-7 week point? A whopping 7. We’re barely into the first game of the set with this thing.

USTA National suspends sanctioned activities through 4/20

Won't be possible at public facilities which may have been shut down. I know of two in my area that host a fair number of USTA teams which are closed at least through the end of March, and I expect that will be extended.

Returner going to the back fence and delaying after I caught the toss

That's the problem - they "throw" it instead of tossing it. Chuck from about waist high and a good chunk of the time it sails off one direction or another, or is too high/not high enough. They never learned a proper tossing motion.

Returner going to the back fence and delaying after I caught the toss

Sounds perhaps a little excessive, but he’s entitled to enough time to fully reset to receive after a caught toss. Played enough people who would immediately re-toss that forcing a slowdown becomes necessary.

On hitting the "Pluto" balls in the net or long - when I do this it's invariably because I'm swinging with my arms only and not rotating my body through. This results in either an open faced racket (ball goes long) or exaggerated low to high swing with closed face and the ball goes straight...

Another Foot Fault Question - Caused by USTA Newsletter

Not from a great server, but a guy in our club league will serve and volley often. More chucks the ball up than tosses it, so not much control and he may end up going sideways or forwards a fair bit before he hits it. And "a fair bit" means he can easily be 2-3 ft inside the baseline and...

Patience is required. Don’t try to hit winners too soon. Control the point, limit their options, open the court - then you strike.

2020 Australian Open QF :- [1] Rafa Nadal vs [5] Domi Thiem

I’m pretty sure he did shake her hand. Post match, when the camera feeds cuts to show Rafa having come around to Thiem’s side to congratulate him, you can see the umpire in the background leaning over with her arm outstretched and then sit up straight. So looks like Rafa shook her hand on the...

2019 Wimbledon 3R - [1.] Novak Djokovic vs. Hubert Hurkacz

Djokovic looked tired at the end of that set. Didn't seem to have the usual zip on his serve - that's a sign of tired legs. He's still moving well, but a lot more huffing and puffing after long point than I'm used to seeing from him. Hu needs to keep him running.

2019 Wimbledon 3R - [1.] Novak Djokovic vs. Hubert Hurkacz

I'd expect Hu to go after the first couple points hard here. If he gets down 0-30 I don't expect him to expend a lot of effort - save it for the TB.

2019 Wimbledon 3R - [1.] Novak Djokovic vs. Hubert Hurkacz

He looks like he's just playing to get to the tie break - putting it all into his service games. Not putting in a ton of effort once he gets down on Djoko's serve.

2019 Wimbledon 3R - [1.] Novak Djokovic vs. Hubert Hurkacz

HuHu's making him work for it at least. Nice to see a player not cave in to Djokovic after a tough first set.

Probably the umpire/tourny official didn't have the balls to say no to Djokovic in the 2nd round, and this umpire does.

If you’ve ever seen US Olympic coverage, you’d know the answer. They’ll show all the Americans, who might not even be in the top 10, and the winner. Maybe you’ll get a glimpse of whoever got 2nd. If an American is in contention, you’ll get a 10 minute homage to their incredible back story, then...

Whatever it takes to balance the betting on both sides. Oddsmakers don't put odds based on what they think the likelihood of each winning is. They put them (initially) based on what they think bettors will do, and adjust once bets start coming in.
