What a pain! One handed backhand

Ah okay, I get you with the 135 now. And yes 90 is exaggeration, but it's good to think that as a mental cue. 45 should suffice. But you're thinking 45 and doing less. Think 90 and do 45! Hand speed may add a little spin but I don't think it'll add power, that will come from depth and speed of...

What a pain! One handed backhand

Do an experiment for me, next time you go out and hit spend 10 minutes trying to accelerate your shots by only focusing on a deeper 90 degree coil, then focus on a faster uncoil, then both. It should feel like the core and legs are doing the work, and at contact the arm is almost a loose noodle...

What a pain! One handed backhand

Let's focus on this. This is how i see it: say your prep is the unit turn, aka first turn, where your chest faces side fence roughly. Footwork gets set up here etc. 2nd turn is the "coil" where now chest faces back fence. The uncoil is where chest now faces side fence (90 degrees). there is...

What a pain! One handed backhand

Were you attempting a straight arm before? I thought yours was always bent. Why is it a big thing? What is your opinion on the uncoiling?

What a pain! One handed backhand

Hey @Curious saw your most recent bh video. I think what happened is what I was afraid would happen, focusing on this straight arm and stay sideways thing and you forgot the coil, or it's almost non existent now. And it's a much more important part of the stroke. You need to have that wrist...

What a pain! One handed backhand

I think they're good to have in your mind, but the swing should feel circular. It's like by default it's circular, you just try to tame the circle at the 6 inches before and after contact If it doesn't feel circular then you're likely arming or doing something oldschool, guiding the ball, not...

What a pain! One handed backhand

agree with this. the arm swings circularly, and the rotation is circular. the swing needs to feel like a forehand, its just that the torso stops rotating earlier. forehand = contact more when chest faces net for down the line backhand = contact more when chest faces side fence for down the line

What a pain! One handed backhand

I feel like this isn't a great tip honestly. Its more like you make contact with your chest facing the side fence to hit down the line, chest faces net post at contact to hit cross court (as a rough rule). The tip is more like "put on the breaks" when you reach one of the above contact points...

After just over 2 years hitting the 2hb I am finally got it in it's entirety....

It's like when you gave me the double turn advice. When you keep hearing something eventually you gotta give it a go. Are you doing the backward sledding? Glad it's helping

Unfortunately not, the damage is in the cartilage and that can't be strengthened. But I think they'd work for tendonitis / muscle issues

Tear in my articular cartilage of my knee. It's been maybe 10 months, I've tried rehab ans coming back then prolotherapy (a bit like PRP) but neither have worked. Got a surgery coming up for it, so fingers crossed that fixes me up!

We had some good points here actually. I think both our backhands let us down, and my serve. I get what you mean, my backhand could hit some good flat ones but the average rally ball was too soft and made too many errors. The extra turn gives it power and spin and safety, feels a joy to hit.

Yeah thanks, thats the main change I made on my backhand, adding the 2nd coil. On the forehand it was not dropping the off hand during contact. Looks like I'm pulling it in more, before it used to dangle down like wet spaghetti In the vid you posted recently trying out your 1hander again were...

I feel equally comfortable hitting open stance now, and that ball is a lot spinnier. It's like hitting an open stance (or semi open) forehand vs a closed stance

Do you think there is a "drop" in my backhand? This is the newest iteration of it before I got injured

Where did you hear that? I thought it's supposed to be universal. Utr 7 would have you as a high 4.0 or low 4.5 nrtp right? From what I've seen on youtube that sounds about right.

Looks like you're not hitting the one hander hard enough. I like your 2hander more now personally.

You've accepted the backhand is allowed to be flatter? I think it's a great backhand but I thought that 6 months ago too.

What a pain! One handed backhand

Yeah don't forget with this game everything starts with the serve and return. You don't need power necessarily to get it deep and tricky for your opponent off those two shots until 5.0+, or like 8+ utr I'd say. But they help. Not many people will have insane coordination and ball reading to play...

What a pain! One handed backhand

They're focused on control and placement. A good way to play as an oldie. I've vsed guys before who never seemed to miss in warmups but when the match starts and you start hitting hard it's a different story. What's their UTR?

What a pain! One handed backhand

i'm still a big advocate of not having to blast the backhand every time. the slice and the block and the push are all good variety on the backhand. but you do need the ability to blast it just to strike a bit of fear into your opponent.

What a pain! One handed backhand

agree, i've been saying (what i think is the same thing?) in different terms - uncoil until your chest faces the net post then hit the breaks, the arm whips through into contact. its different on the forehand, because you make contact when your chest faces the net. its 45 degrees off on the...
