    extended-length rackets

The lack of XLs is very disappointing. I grew up playing XL and a standard length just does not feel right to me, especially on my backhand, which is my big weapon. I’ve been playing the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick + 2012 for almost 10 years now. I have been looking to move on, but haven’t...

@Babolat Official Josh, while I don’t like the answer, I appreciate the response. I’ll lobby for the next gen Pure Drive Tour + and happily test for you!

Creature of habit using ALU Power for years. Sell me on something new to try.

I was a long time ALU power user from soon after it was released throughout USTA juniors and Div1 college. I switched from it to Tour Bite and have been using it for about 8 years now. I haven’t tried ALU in a long time to compare, but I remember liking the crisp, clean, powerful feel of Tour...

    Bonjour from Babolat: Part Trois

@Babolat Official Any plans to bring back the Pure Drive Tour Plus? I am a dedicated plus length racquet user and am sad to see it’s going to be hard to replace my 2012 Pure Drive Roddick GT Plus frames that are getting worn out. I have tried weighting the new Pure Drive Plus to similar weight...

I don’t visibly see a difference in the shots. The 101 feels nicer with a crisp string and the 100 feels more solid with a soft string. Hitting again today and I’m going to work on the transition game and volleys also.

Today I did about 90 minutes of ball machine training and some serving with my 100 and 101 with identical specs. 27.5”. 320g, 305mm. B grip size 2 hybrid pro with 2 overgrips. Strung with Solinco Tour Bite 1.25mm @48M/50C. The feel of the 101 moved in front of the 100 today when paired with...

    Diagonal spin on forehand

Any extra rotation on the ball is a good thing and makes it harder for your opponent to handle. I like to have the feel of the racquet going 4-10 or 5-11 on head and shoulder height forehands. The rotation will stabilize the ball flight and make your shots consistent like topspin even if the...

Bought it. Thanks for the idea! I see the inner diameter of a 15 gauge is 1.37 mm, so I guess up to 15L string should go through.

What is up with the string pattern and the stupid double blocked hole for the last cross?!?!? It’s a huge hassle with a poly, but at least doable. Today I was stringing my dad‘s 105 with a multifilament, and I was less than a minute from quitting and making it an 16 x 18 racquet. I have over...

I may at some point try the thicker gauge hyper G. My goal of going with the 18 gauge was thinking it would break before it went dead, and it sure did! I also decided on the 18 gauge just have a few grams less weight invested in the strings so I could have a more headlight balance for more...

Well, I hit again today and unfortunately the Hyper G in the 100 broke within 20 minutes. It broke in less than 90 minutes total. So I hit mostly with the 101. I really liked the 101 today. I was getting better power today and I really like it on volleys. The mass can be used to direct the...

Best way to play a defensive counterpuncher?

Take his legs away. Hit deep down the middle. When he coughs up a short ball, be very decisive and follow to net.

Here are my thoughts: The 101 was my least favorite of the 3. It felt like the ball stayed on the strings forever and I could very much feel the flex in the head. There was little natural power in the frame, so I had to use the mass of the racquet to create pace. This did allow for easy...

Angells arrived today. Strung the 100 and 101 with Solinco Hyper G 18g at 50 lbs and strung the 105 with Hyper G 20g at 50 lbs. The 20g is for my dad who isn’t at all a string breaker and hasn’t used poly before. I was surprised at the elasticity when stringing.

I’m going to be a new Angell user. I’m coming most recently from the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick + (2012) version I believe. I have it strung with Solinco Tour Bite 1.25. It was a great racquet for me when I was in top shape and form. In my college tennis days, I played a Wilson nBlade 106...

How to beat a player like Santoro?

I have had success against this playing style by hitting hard and deep right down the middle to take away the angles. When he eventually coughs up a short ball, you must be extremely aggressive and decisive and follow to net. I had lost to a guy who played for UGA at the time with this style...

stringing a full bed with different tension for mains and crosses

I do the opposite, crosses 3 lbs. tighter than mains to stop racquet from distorting off the stringer. Due to friction, crosses already have significantly less tension than mains.

Ok, get me off of Kevlar.

I have to recommend Solinco Tour Bite. Sick spin and great control. Cut it out and restring shortly after the strings start to move around without returning to position. This means the strings have lost elasticity and are dead. Power and spin go down noticeably at this point, and a ping...
