At What Point Does the USTA System Move Someone Up

I dont know anything about 2007. But I'll bet the only difference here is that Raiden is your pen pal _ so you defend him. He intemtionally played at too low a level. But he's not a cheat because he is your buudy. The special circunstances are pure crap and you know it.

At What Point Does the USTA System Move Someone Up

Raiden INTENTIONALLY played below his appropriate level in order to win trip to Nationals. AND THAT IS A FACT. It is also a fact that EVERY person playing down can site "special" circumstances. Again, in case you have trouble remembering what u read. I dont fault him for playing down...

    Usta League Administration

Personally I agree with Joeyg. True there are a lot of fantastic volunteers helping out the USTA. (And I have done quite a bit of volunteer work.) But my experience is that USTA DECISION-MAKERS are money focused. Officers at the National and Sectional offices do quite well financially. Some...

    Split Up Southern Section???

I'm sure that it is political considerations which keeps the Southern Section from being split up inot 2 or 3 more managable Sections. The officers of the Southern Section probably see that this change would give them personally less power and control. So'll they'll opposee splitting up the...

At What Point Does the USTA System Move Someone Up

Raiden, I repeat I Do not blame u for playing down. I blame you for all the lame, ignorant excuses you are making to try to justify it. How much clearer can I get?

At What Point Does the USTA System Move Someone Up

Raiden, You INTENTIONALLY played down in order to make a run at Nationals. And so did your teammates. I DONT FAULT U FOR THAT. But PLEASE spare us all the ridiculous excuses. (u were just trying to get better; 3.5 teams didnt want u; it was your captains fault; it was a big accident...

At What Point Does the USTA System Move Someone Up

RAIDEN YOU ARE FULL OF CRAP "all I wanted to do was play a higher level of tennis but ended up winning a National championship" When you won your 3.0 National championship you KNEW you were playing at too low a level and so did your teammates. You all WANTED to play at a low level to have...

    Usta League Administration

One thing I would change if I were commissioner for a day: I play all matches out _ three full tiebreak sets. No "match tiebreak". My view is that a match tiebreak is not much better than flipping a coin.

    Using Tennislink

Like most of u I sometimes look up a player's record in TennisLink. It's a pretty neat tool. However, I have trouble wheneve the player uses initials for his first and middle name. For example, C.J. XXXXXX. What am I doing wrong?

    Usta League Administration

Topaz, True, not all new self-rated players are cheaters. But also true, it seems like most of the teams making Nats are loaded with self-rated players who rated too low. Do you have any suggestion or prefer no change any all?

    Usta League Administration

Changing gears . . .what about a new rule: League players must play a full season before they are eligible to play in the post season. League players must play TWO full seasons before they are eligible to play at Nats. This approach would encourage people to play at a level where they could...

    Split Up Southern Section???

I'm not from the Southern Section and this may be a crappy idea . . . but why not split the Section up into 3 or 4 smaller Sections? Currently the Southern Section is probably three times as large as the 2nd largest Section. Therefore I think Southern players get short-changed in the...

    Usta League Administration

Jim, Wow, you are the kind of guy that the USTA should hire to run the USTA League program. It seems to me that the folks running the league tend to be very old, set in their ways and they lack creavity ideas. Maybe we should have TERM LIMITS on folks running the leagues.

    Usta League Administration

Jim A, I like the idea of more teams competing and also more national events for teams. It would be great to give more teams and players the opportunity to play in a national team event. A related thought: Currently there are 17 USTA Sections and each sends 1 rep to Nationals at various...

    Usta League Administration

cak, I certainly think the USTA is trying to get more people to play tennis _ because that puts money in their pockets. Maybe I'm cynical but I think it is MOSTLY about $ with the USTA. That's a good point about eliminating Nationals since most players/teams dont ever make Nationals anyway...

    Usta League Administration

How about this: I think Senior 50s should play 1 singles and 2 doubles lines _ not 3 doubles lines. Advantages: a) A lot of age 50 players still enjoy singles more than doubles. This makes league more attactive for those guys b) Fewer players would be needed so maybe it would be easier...

    3.5 Strengths

Seems to me that NTRP ratings overlap. The top 25% - 30% of 3.5 players can beat the bottom 25% - 30% 4.0 players. The top 25% - 30% 4.0 players can beat the bottom 4.5 players. etc. I dont have any hard evidence, just what I see.

USTA Flex League - Is it any good?

Personal opinion --> flex leagues are not the way to go if you have other options. Scheduling can be a pain and drive times are way too long. It's more fun and less trouble to just play in a club league every Saturday morning.

    Purpose of USTA?

In League (team) matches you are playing for not only myself _ but also for your team members. For that reason the matches seem to mean more. The competitive pressure is higher and the joy of winning (for your team) is greater. All that said, I do think the USTA could do a better job with...

is it time to start a coup?

I agree with the comments that captains should not change their stated philsophy now that the playoffs are near. Seems to me that teams need to be clearly competitive (the best guys play the most) or clearly social (all players play equally). It is when you try to be both that captains run...
