    Andy Murray Under Armours

I think Murray is wearing black Under Armours. Why didn't Under Armour ever release this shoe or any tennis shoe for public sale? Under Armour sponsors a fair amount of college athletic programs with tennis teams. Those teams are always forced to wear Asics or New Balance for tennis.

Sleeveless muscle shirts just look …unprofessional to me in a tennis tournament.

It was a fairly popular look for mens college tennis at one time. Admittedly, they were more live sleeveless t-shirts with higher collars and tighter arm holes. That looks a lot more professional.

    Pros using racquet head tape?

Is it too cheap a look but do any pros actually use that tape you put on the head of a racquet to protect against scrapes?

D1 programs with indoor tennis facilities?

I can tell you that UCLA and USC don't have them nor do they particularly need them. Same for USD, San Diego State and UCSD.

Air Trainer 1 Chlorophyll - the old McEnroe, Agassi and Wilander shoe

What, if anything can you do about the sole durability? I've experimented in the past with putting some duct tape in certain spots. If you are playing on hard courts, it doesn't negatively affect traction.

Air Trainer 1 Chlorophyll - the old McEnroe, Agassi and Wilander shoe

Yeah, the outsole looks like it is pretty soft. So I'm sort of reluctant to actually wear them to play a lot. Maybe just to play doubles or something.

Air Trainer 1 Chlorophyll - the old McEnroe, Agassi and Wilander shoe

Yeah, it sucks. The collector types have perverted the whole process. They "sold out" immediately because there are people who make it their business to scalp them basically.

Air Trainer 1 Chlorophyll - the old McEnroe, Agassi and Wilander shoe

The original cross trainer - the Nike Air Trainer 1 in green and black. Did anyone use them for tennis in the old days? They are available again in a re-issue (though Nike itself sold out and it's all through secondary markets). I wore them to play some tennis and they are super comfortable...

    NCAA Women's tourney 2022

Why is there no one from Georgia playing in the singles tournament? Why did Lea Ma, their number one player, not even play in the team tournament?

17 gauge strings - more movement

Do thinner strings (17 gauge vs 16 gauge) move more? I feel like I have to adjust them a lot more often even though I string them at the same tension as the thicker strings.

McEnroe and Air Trainer - Did he ever also wear the Air Trainer 3?

Everyone knows McEnroe took the original Nike cross-training shoe, the Air Trainer, and used it for tennis. Did he ever wear the very similar Air Trainer 3?

Is the Pro Staff Six One in black the same racquet as the WIlson SIx One 95 in white and red?

Are there material differences? I know a fair amount of pros used the white and red Six One 95 but not as sure about the Pro Staff Six One in black.

    Nike shoes worn by pros

Anyone wear Nike shoes other than Air Zoom Vapor Cage and Air Zoom Vapor Knit? Didn't there used to be another type of Nike that I saw at least a lot of the college guys wearing.

Air Zoom Prestige vs Air Zoom Vapor

They look awfully close. Anyone know the difference?

Average and smallest racquet head size on tour

Funny but I've played with a Yonex 98 and a Wilson that was 95 and they really seemed the exact same to me.

Average and smallest racquet head size on tour

Anyone playing with anything less than 93? Anyone playing with anything greater than 100?

Wilson Six One 95 - the red and white racquet

But I don't think available at Tennis Warehouse anymore.

Wilson Six One 95 - the red and white racquet

Wasn't the Wilson Six One 95 used by some pros at one point? It is a hard racquet to buy these days? I don't seem to see it around as much.

Wilson Six One 95 - the red and white racquet

Is this racquet still made? I think at one time some pros were using it?

I play Division III college tennis, AMA

Yeah, you got to figure out at roughly $100 a pair, shoe costs can add up very quickly. I think you could get a month out of a pair during the season but that's still $800-$900 a year. But I'm pretty sure at Stanford, etc., you could easily get 5-6 pairs a year.

I play Division III college tennis, AMA

Here's the key question about Here's the key question. What do you get as far as shoes? I knew someone who played at an SEC school and it seemed like shoes were almost unlimited. The limiting factor as a practical matter is that people get comfortable with their shoes so don't just want to...

I play Division III college tennis, AMA

Thanks for the answers. Follow up about the gear. Do you get a ton of shoes, workout clothes, etc. from Nike or just the bare minimum? I figure if you were playing at a big Nike school (think Stanford, Oregon, etc.), you could pretty much get a ton but wondering how it is at a D3. Can a top...

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

So UA for travel, running and weight room training? I can't figure out why UA can't develop a tennis shoe given they even have Murray as a sponsored player.

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

Wow, that says a lot about the shoe quality of UA because obviously they get the UA cleats as part of the school deal. I've always been skeptical about UA shoe quality. Even Nike, their stuff wasn't always uniformly good in their first 10 years or so. Nike had a ways to go to catch up to...

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

It's not easy to make shoes well. Nike and Adidas have spent hundreds of millions on R&D and have had so much chance due to sheer volume to work out kinks. I'm frankly surprised Under Armour has done as well as they have in making the few shoes they do make.

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

When Under Armour commits to paying UCLA in the 9 figures, I think they can put some pressure to have shoes other than Nike or Adidas be worn. Obviously there is a limit but I don't think it is an accident that lots of Under Armour school players wear Asics.
  30. S

    Under Armour Schools and Shoes

That makes sense given UCLA was an Adidas school and some of those guys might have started in those shoes. It seems like there must be some unofficial encouragement from Under Armour that if you can't wear our shoes (or we don't make them), wear stuff from Asics or New Balance or someone other...
