    strange comment in federer biography?

he was 22, and he never reachd a grand slam semifinal yet. Everyone knew his talent (i remember in 2000 i wrote that he would become the next number one in the world, and i supposed it would happen in 2001-2002), but he wasn't the best player with no slam at all. Very strange statement... c.

Who had better volley skills; McEnroe or Edberg?

in my opinion Edberg had one of the best volleys ever, but Mac was better.

    Agassi or Connors?

They both won 8 grand slam tournament, so we can compare them... In my opinion they are tied in an alltime ranking, about #14 and #15 alltime.

    Agassi or Connors?

I think Agassi is one of the best 20 players of alltime... But i'm not sure, and maybe he's only #25: it's possible. 24 people better than Agassi? Tilden, Lacoste, Cochet, Vines, Budge, Perry, Kramer, Sedgman, Gonzales, Hoad, Laver, Rosewall, Newcombe, Borg, Connors, McEnroe, Lendl...

Are there Sampras fans who cheer for Nadal to not let Federer break his record?

I was a Sampras fan and I care only about of one of his records: the 7 wimbledons. So yes, i hope Federer will never win his 7th wimbledon. For the other records, I don't care, Federer can break all Sampras records. But the record of majors won is not Sampras' 14 but 23-24 majors (Rosewall...

Who was the true no1 in 2003?

I agree with Sgt. John too, but I cannot give the #1 spot to a player who reached only once the quarterfinals in a slam. I prefer performance over continuity, too. But , according to me, the #1 is Roddick. If possible, i would like to have 4 players tied as #1 ;-) But maybe it's just...

    Hybrid Tennis Ratings

Even if I have in my mind a different method to evaluate tennis history and create an all-time (or at least an open-era) ranking - just in my mind, because i don't have a complete database to work with - I'm very grateful to you all for these kinds of threads. They always show not only ability...

Understanding tennis without being a good player?

just to understand tennis, not to be a great coach :) I'm asking you this, cause in an italian forum every 'good' player (not a pro player anyway) seems to say that only who play well can understand something about tennis. So I just would like to know if, how can i say, here it's the same ore...

Federer and Sampras - Different Players

Federer is good, but not the best in close contests Federer has won 55% of 5 set in his career, 62% from 2004 Sampras has a career 70% Borg has a career 85% c.

Federer and Sampras - Different Players

obviously federer is not soft in important matches. He's probably not as good as sampras, or borg, in tight 5 sets. He's not perfect, psychologically. I think Sampras feeled the control of the match as long as he was able to depend on his serve. So, even in 0 set to 2, 5-6, but serving...

Who was the true no1 in 2003?

it's a race for 4 players. Roddick was #1 player for atp ranking (Federer #2), the atp player of the year and the itf player of the year. Tennis Magazine has Roddick-Ferrero-Agassi-Federer, in that order. Imo, Roddick close #1 over the 3 others. Federer is not even a clear #2. We...

    How good was Pancho Gonzales?

With Tilden, he has been the player who dominated tennis for the longest time. In my opinion, he's the Goat, but obviously i'm not certain. He's one of the best ever, I think only Tilden, Budge, Kramer, Laver, Sampras, Federer and maybe Borg's career can compete with Pancho's. Hoad...

Pete Sampras' opinion on serve and volleyers

And after Llodra, my dear coaches, Stakhovskiy win a tournament. Yeah, it's impossibile to win with serve and volley if you are not a GOAT. It's more difficult? Yes. It's impossible? No, the reason players do not have a decent volley is that tennis coaching is usually not a professional...

"Underachieving" Roddick has 24 titles and Davis Cup championship

In matchups with top10 players, Roddick is not a top10 player. In grand slam tournament, he only beated Ferrero in 2003 and #10 Ancic in 2007. So, at this level he's not only non equal to Federer and Nadal, but to Djokovic, Gasquet, Ferrer, Nalbandian, Gonzalez, Philippoussis, Hewitt and...

Did Sampras retire a bit soon?

When you retire after winning a grand slam,it's obvious that he retired a little early. A grand slam champion obviously can compete to win other slam tournaments the next year. But it happens in every sport, I don't think that a Zinedine Zidane now can not compete in a competitive soccer...

    163.3 mph serve....

Sampras hit a 120 mph serve with a wooden racket. It's possible and probable that Vines and others served with that speed. It's not probable that they did it very often, because wooden racket give less control, at the same level of power. Sampras said that groundtrokes were different with the...

Tsogna V/S Federer (On their best dayS)

A similar question has been done to Nadal. 'Rafa, Federer has ever played like Tsonga Today?' 'Roger is great, but i think it's difficult to play better than Tsonga today' So people who think it's a stupid question, maybe, can try be nicer when they answer... c
