    TennisRecord com Appreciation Thread

I hope TR folks are vacationing or revamping their website/algorithm and not halting activities in response to a USTA edict. I did see TLS got around to completing its 2023 ratings a couple weeks ago.

    Hsieh Su-wei is BACK !!!!

About 20 years ago, I practiced with Su-wei in a lead up to one of her first US tournaments. Her poor coach was pleading with her to focus on the prescribed drills and to stop hitting drop shots, drop volleys and short angles. LOL, everyone loves to practice what they do well. Su-wei was so...

    Year End Ratings

How did your team and you do at Nationals? That will definitely drive how big the tweak is. 2022: TR 4.41, Schmke 4.48, Team went 4-0 at 40+ Nationals in pool play, lost in semis. I went 5-0 in dubs playing with our highest-rated player. BUMP to 5.0, appeal not available. 2023: TR 4.41...

    2023 Nationals Week 4 Simulations

Yeah, NorCal 18+ 4.5s the last two years did well in pool play, but fizzled in the semis.

    2023 Nationals Week 3 Simulation Posted - 40+ 4.5 Men

Maybe he woke up after the first set on 6/24. It would be so easy for the USTA algorithm to throw away these dubious results.

    2023 18+ NorCal Sectionals

4.5 wasn't a rematch, Fig Garden beat a completely different Sunnyvale team And the talented 5.0 Diablo team was missing their top singles guy

The ITF has changed the WTN algorithm, is it any better?

    I went from 14 to 25 in singles, and 7 to 22 in doubles. I'm also decaying/aging.

    Hsieh Su-wei is BACK !!!!

No televised trophy presentation, but ESPN respected the Women's doubles final enough to begin coverage midway through the second game.

    Hsieh Su-wei is BACK !!!!

Hsieh Su-wei has such a wonderful personality and gives hilarious interviews. Not happy Tennis Channel decided to bypass the trophy presentation. Confident TC would have showed it had Fernandez/Townsend won.

Will there be a four-peat league national champion at 18+ 4.0M?

As long as the player is qualified for Nationals on the Sectionals-winning team, I don’t think the player’s second team has any advancement criteria.

    3rd Set Scoring

During regular season and local playoff matches, NorCal let’s the home team decide whether to play a full third or a match tiebreaker. Once teams advance to Districts and Sectionals, NorCal exclusively uses match tiebreakers.

Questions About Players That Appeal Up

In my section, self-rated players and players with appealed Y/E ratings must play more matches than computer-rated players to qualify for postseason. I understand the reasoning for self-rates and those that appeal down, but why is there a requirement for those that appeal up? Is it simply...

    2022 40 & Over 4.5 Nationals in Oklahoma City

I agree the 4-line format drastically reduces sandbagging at Nationals, but most strong teams, with eyes on Nationals, don't worry about the regular season matches
  25. M

    2022 40 & Over 4.5 Nationals in Oklahoma City

With the one flight, four advance format, teams/captains feel the pressure to win every match. The best teams either have to play their top guys until they drop or have 3-4 top-level alternates. That's a lot harder to do at the 40+ level. The dreaded 2-2 tie/loss can ruin an entire season, so...

    2022 40 & Over 4.5 Nationals in Oklahoma City

All our team could do was scare them in the semis. They were too strong. Their #1 doubles pair was the best in OKC last week.
