Which former player do you think had the Most underrated return of serve ? And why?

Is Kuerten's 3GS + #1 ranking + YEC is greater than, equal to, or less than Wawrinka's 3GS + multiple surfaces + had to beat Djoko in every win

I love Kuerten's clay court play. Kuerten is one of the greatest ever at that surface. That being said, i rate Wawrinka higher. We simply can't dismiss Wawrinka beating Nadal in an AO final, something i don't believe Kuerten could do. I also don't think we can dismiss the Djokovic thing as a...

Could Hewitt return prime Sampras's serve better than Agassi?

Could Hewitt return prime Sampras's serve better than Agassi? Hewitt did have a 5-4 winning record over Sampras. And while Sampras was in his prime in 1999, he was inconsistent in 2000 and 2001. Could Hewitt return prime Sampras's serve better than Agassi? If so, why? I have heard from some...

Peak Kuerten vs Peak Courier on clay

The most interesting part of this match up would be how Kuerten's single hander would hold up vs Couriers inside out Forehand. I think that battle would ultimately determine who wins it.

Peak Kuerten vs Peak Courier on clay

5 sets. French Open. Who do you pick to win?

Can inside out forehand have detrimental impact?

I am a rec player going back to playing tennis. I have been watching the game for over a decade but have only played sporadically over the last few years. I have started playing 3-4 times a week for the past few weeks. I haven't spent time developing my inside out forehand. I'd like to develop...

rate the following players in order of greatness/best career

Nice to see Ferrer getting some credit. Despite his consistency, i struggle to place him above geniuses like Nalbandian and Davy. If only those two had Ferrers determination.

Come Monday Five of the ATP Top 10 will be 6'6" or taller

this is untrue. Wimbledon was slowed down in 01, nothing to do with Nadal or Djokovic. Nadal has beaten Federer on fast hardcourts like Dubai as a 19 year old, and Cincinati. These are just excuses made by Federer fanatics who are incapable of any objectivity.

Is Del Potro now best non Big 4 player of 21st century?

Nope. Wawrinka is. However, out of all the players born after Federer, i would rank him just behind Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Wawrinka.

    Del Potro: A wasted talent?

wasted? No. Nalbandian was a wasted talent. Davydenko i guess too, although he did win the tour finals. Del Porto could have probably won 3-6 majors by now but he had major issues with injuries which are beyond his control Anyway, well done to Del Potro. Beautifully played. Enjoyed watching...

Why wasn't Sampras more successful at the Australian Open?

I have never read Pete's bio, thanks for the post, appreciate it.

    What happened to Lleyton Hewitt?

perhaps calling them mediocre was too harsh. They were good consistent shots. His great return of serve, great footspeed, and overall consistency made him an excellent player. His serve and groundstrokes weren't major weapons

    What happened to Lleyton Hewitt?

I am not denying that he could hit some good groundstrokes with power. I am also not denying that he was the second best player in 04 and 05, and was very unlucky to have had to deal with peak Federer. Point remains, he neither had a great serve, nor a great forehand, not a great backhand...

    What happened to Lleyton Hewitt?

His game was built to counter serve and volley players. He was fast, could retreive shots, hit good passing shots, had a great lob, a great return of serve. His groundstrokes were average and unlike Nadal, he neither had a huge forehand or a huge backhand. His serve was decent but nothing...

Why wasn't Sampras more successful at the Australian Open?

Interesting. Great summary. Looking at this, he missed chances in 98,2000,96. Plus, missing in 1999 as well. Thanks for the summary.

Why wasn't Sampras more successful at the Australian Open?

interesting. I think Pete somewhat regrets this now. He probably could have and should have won a few more AO's but he probably didn't expect two and possibly three guys to surpass him in a generation.

Why wasn't Sampras more successful at the Australian Open?

I mean two slams at the event is excellent but i have always wondered why he didn't win 4 or 5 at the AO. Agassi was the only one who was better than Sampras at that surface and Agassi was a non-factor from 96-98 at the AO, and missed in 02. Do you think Sampras underachieved at the AO?

best slam finalist of the last decade?

Whom do you rank as the best player among all of the slam finalists of the last decade? I am starting from 2007 here. Gonzalez Tsonga Berdych Soderling Ferrer Nishikori

Nadal at Australian Open or Federer at US Open - who deserves a title there more?

I wasn't talking since the last year. I am talking about the last 10. I am not sure if the AO is faster than USO. I heard the same arguments in 2010 when Nadal won USO, about how all of a sudden it was slower than just a year before. I don't buy it. To me, there was no difference between USO...

How many slams for Nalbandian if he had the work ethic of Fed?

Nalbandian had 3-4 majors in him IMO I like Fed and while he is a better player then Nal and would beat him more often than not, Nalbandian certainly has the shot making to steal a couple of HC majors from him. Not only that but Nalbandian would have a shot at AO in 08 vs Djokovic, USO in 09...

Nadal at Australian Open or Federer at US Open - who deserves a title there more?

Nadal at AO I think Nadal struggles a bit more at AO (relative to other majors) is because unlike clay where he can play his defensive counter punching game, and unlike the faster US courts where Nadal is typically more aggressive, the AO surface is somewhere between French and US in terms of...

Novak Djokovic: "I lost my love for tennis sometime after Paris"

i am not sure. I think most players train 6 hours or so outside of when they are competing in tournaments. Plus, all that travelling must take a toll as well.

Novak Djokovic: "I lost my love for tennis sometime after Paris"

even 6 hours a day is a lot. Plus, after all that training, its exhausting to do anything else. I can't imagine how mentally draining it is. To be fair, they get compensated extremely well in a financial sense, and of course they have adoring fans, but it must get exhausting. That's why...

Can Del Potro win another major?

Is it possible? He recently returned to the world top 10 despite a thrashing by Berdych if i am not correct. He has played fairly well vs the big three since coming back from injury. With the right draw, is it possible for Del Potro to win another major?
  27. D

Which aging player would you like to see win a major?

Had to bump this thread. Hoping that Berdych can somehow win. Never really thought Querry would be in this position but it would be nice if he could as well.

How many people have seen Federer play in person?

I saw Federer vs Monfils in 2006 at Doha, i was only 13 at the time and in awe of how good he was. Would like to see him again before he retires.

Andy Murray is officially an all time great now

Rosewall is interesting. i have limited knowledge of him but he is probably tier 1. I am impressed from the clips i have seen.
