    I never sit on change-overs.

Haha what a Chad move. Haven't tried that before.

    I never sit on change-overs.

Nah not trying to. I get totally gassed in my matches sometimes. It's just that sitting down to rest just seems to make it worse rather than better. After sitting a few mins all I want to do is go home shower and nap.

    I never sit on change-overs.

I don't know what to make of this, but I never sit on change-overs. I feel like sitting down allows my heart rate to drop too much, and then when I get up again I'm sluggish. I'd rather just pace back and forth on the baseline and keep my heart rate in controlled but active state. Does this...

Australian Open Travel 2025. Travel/planning tips?

Planning to go to Australian Open 2025. Looks like tickets are released for regular sale tomorrow night. Planning to go for two days to watch 4th round matches. Any tips on what to buy? Day vs night session? Rod Laver vs other courts? Good seats vs watching practice courts and wandering...

Serve Confidence -> Falling back to two kick serves

Yea that's kinda where I'm at now. Only going for those when I'm up and not feeling pressure. Otherwise defaulting to the safe thing.

Serve Confidence -> Falling back to two kick serves

Lately I find myself hitting kick serves on both first and second. My flat and slice serves are actually really good on the good days, but on average days they only go in like 40% or less. When I go for flat/slice on first and kick on second, the switch really throws me off and affects my...

Righty 2 handed backhand players: do you have callouses under the ring and middle fingers?

No I don't. The only time I had callouses that looked like that is back when I was playing a ton of golf. I'm guessing it's related to your overgrip. Either the grip is too sticky and bothering your skin, or the grip is too slippery which causes you to grip harder. My personal recommendation...

Zero Backswing on the Forehand - Can't Extend Hitting Arm!

Meh. Looks a lot to me like Mannarino's forehand. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

    Your best service ace

In doubles when the non-returning opponent is encroaching on the service box and I manage to hit them with my serve. Not sure if it's technically an ace... but we won the point and the returner never touched it

What’s a little tactic / thing you use to gain a slight advantage?

I want my opponent to develop an expectation and get a little complacent... Then change it up with a new thing for them to adjust to. Also my flat serves have a better chance of going in the more warned up I am. So those early match attempts at flat serves are usually wasted anyways.

What’s a little tactic / thing you use to gain a slight advantage?

I play a lefty that deliberately holds the racquet with his right hand between points and in the ready position right up until the serve. Almost like he wants people to forget or second guess.

What’s a little tactic / thing you use to gain a slight advantage?

I don't hit any hard flat serves for the first few service games. I just use placed slice and kick serves. That way in game 4/5 when I finally bring it out, it's a guaranteed free point or two since the change in pace is so suprising.

Hardest thing in tennis? Playing against players who are level(s) below you

I don't know that there's anything 'hard' about NTRP ratings. The buckets are huge and vulnerable to sandbagging and other shenanigans. A tournament-hardened strong 4.0 beating a casual 4.5 is a pretty common thing. But okay if the levels are truly separate then there's nothing hard about it...

Hardest thing in tennis? Playing against players who are level(s) below you

Hardest thing in tennis is incorrectly assesing an opponent to be beneath you, and then losing the match.

    Finally USTA wakes up

IMO this is exactly the wrong response. What grown-*ss adult is going to buy themself a child-sized tennis racquet? The dorks have chosen pickleball. Let them have it. USTA should instead go the opposite way with their marketing. Tennis is for grownups who want to play a real sport with...

    Topspin serve and good ball

I'll always start a competitive match with new balls At my level (4.0+), theres not a huge difference between new and lightly used balls. Good serves will still be good. Bad serves will still be bad.

What's the call when you think the ball is out, but you're not sure?

Good (y): Calling a ball out when you see it out Bad (n): Calling a ball out when you are unsure Also Bad (n): Saying nothing and playing on, then some time after the point ends saying "Actually I think that one shot was out but I didn't say anything. It was really close." Just call it...

    How do you beat moonballers?

Yea this is pretty much never the case. Accept that the reason you lost is not because you didn't know what to do. You knew what to do. You had a gameplan, and that gameplan was reasonable. You are just not currently able to execute the gameplan on the level required to win that match. So...

Terence Atmane hits a spectator out of frustration...

If harsh penalties are only given out when the result is serious injury of a spectator/ballboy/etc... then it is inevitable that there will be incidences with serious injury. If harsh penalties are instead given out when there is potential for spectator injury, then we can acutally prevent the...

    What level are these players?

It's 4.5 4.0's don't have rallies of that quality for that many shots (apart from selected highlight clips) 5.0's handle short balls better and with more consistency. Also make fewer errors in neutral rallies.

Switch to 1HB for more fun

After working on 1hbh for almost 2 years and getting it to a pretty decent level (like 95% as good as my 2h as a 4.0 player)... I eventually decided to switch back to 2hbh. Here was my personal experience with 1hbh: Better spin and margin More natural feeling and fun to hit Improves strength...

I would like serve & volley better to my opponent slice backhand

It depends.... A sliced backhand isn't necessarily a bad backhand. Some players are really good with slice, even when the ball gets higher. Against most players who really just use slice as a defensive blocked last-resort, I say give them kick serves and you're on easy street. If you're...
