Discussing the player of the year award

I would prefer Federer's title haul but Nadal deservedly has the most ranking points which indicates he was the best player of the year.

What is better federer 8-11 in wimbledon finals or sampras 7-0?

Who knew it was such a difficult concept to grasp!

Safin vs Wawrinka - who is the better player?

He had a good chance to beat Federer but I think Djoker takes him out fairly easily if he does make the final.

Safin vs Wawrinka - who is the better player?

He's the best of a bad bunch I suppose. Stan hasn't set the world alight either on grass.

Safin vs Wawrinka - who is the better player?

Stan on clay and slow hard, Safin everywhere else. Probably Safin overall but it's pretty tight.

Not a good day for the young guns

    Zverev beat Darcis.

    Game. Guess matchup from scoreline.

Yes- I thought it would be obscure since it was a 3rd round match I believe but apparently not!

    Greatest GS trilogy...

Fed dropped one set in those 3 matches. Not even close to a thrilling trilogy.

Is the 2018 AO going to be the most exciting slam in years?

If we can add Stan here somehow it would be perfect :)

If at the end of their careers, Rafael Nadal finishes with more US Open title than Novak Djokovic?

If Djokovic is not an ATG on HCs because he will have less slams than Nadal at the USO and Nadal isn't an ATG on HCs, won't that mean Fed isn't an ATG either as he has less AOs than Djokovic who isn't an ATG on HCs? Won't this mean that no one is an ATG on hard courts?

2017 US Open - general discussion thread

I'm personally looking forward to the semi final between Albot and Kukishkin. What a cracking match for the night session, the atmosphere will be unreal!

Petty past results that bother you!

I'm not sure Wawrinka would have troubled Djokovic that year or any year to be perfectly honest but he definitely would've pushed Djokovic more than Gasquet. Djokovic has a mental block against Stan whether he would admit it or not.

Petty past results that bother you!

Wawrinka losing to Gasquet in Wimbledon 2015, had the chance to reach the SF of all the majors in his career which he probably won't do now. Also the choke against Nishikori in USO 2014, being up a set and a break cruising before suddenly having a meltdown.

Rank these Seasons by Level of Play

Yes but the RG win was a peak level performance from Federer. Agree about USO, although outplayed isn't the word I would use for it.

Historically how important was Zverev v Murray AO 2017 in the GOAT race?

Federer can serve his way out of trouble and come to the net on big points frequently when Stan does get a chance. I think Stan realises how hard it is to get a BP against Federer and thus plays tight when he gets a chance to break serve. The inferiority that Wawrinka has must also play a part...

Historically how important was Zverev v Murray AO 2017 in the GOAT race?

Do you think that Federer just had a big off day against Stan or did he actually struggle to cope with Stan's heavy shots from the baseline? His backhand was firing from Berdych onwards against everyone but Stan. And at IW it was the same until the final where he missed a lot more groundstrokes...

What do all of you prefer, baseline rallies or net plays / serve and volleys?

Contrast between attacking baseline play and defensive, with some volleys sprinkled in.
  18. H_Richardson

Peak Stanislas Wawrinka (Stanimal) backhand vs peak Tsonga forehand (which would you prefer)?

I misread the question thinking that if you choose Tsonga's you get 2 forehands :)
  19. H_Richardson

Peak Stanislas Wawrinka (Stanimal) backhand vs peak Tsonga forehand (which would you prefer)?

Misread the question. Stan's backhand would be better as you can get a great forehand easier than a great backhand.

The Wimbledon finals trilogy vs Djoko-Stan AO trilogy

2013 and 2014 makes it a little close but if you include 2015 it's a no brainer for wimbledon.

Murray withdraws from The Real Slam

The effort he put into that match likely made his hip worse than it already was!
  22. H_Richardson

Murray withdraws from The Real Slam

This is the best move for him. Just let #1 slip away so he can actually play half decent tennis without injury. He's too eager to return from injury.

Who starts the ATP World Tour Finals?

Which singles player begins play on the first day of the tournament?

Wawrinka out for the rest of the season, will undergo knee surgery

He may have to beat all the big 4 to win the tournament, imagine that

Wawrinka out for the rest of the season, will undergo knee surgery

Anyone know what his rank is likely to be by AO?
