Taylor Fritz...US Open finalist...the world has ended...

You guys might not realize it, but we NEED Fritz to win the US Open. An American man winning the US Open will reinvigorate the US back into tennis and save the sport from being taken over by pickleball.

Alternative methods for a "11-12 o clock" toss?

I do from a year ago. But I think my serve has changed a bit since then. Maybe I'll try to get some new video sometime.

(Poll) TTW players: do you guys eat more BEFORE or AFTER a match?

I usually eat something moderately light 40-60 mins before a match or tennis session. I tend to burn calories fairly quick, so I can't risk running low on energy. A tennis session can range between 1 to 2 hours long for me. But after tennis is done, I usually eat whatever and however much I...

Alternative methods for a "11-12 o clock" toss?

I do use a parallel stance when doing 2nd serve. But overall, a lot of things to fix on my serve. Over the past year trying to focus on improve my racquet drop. Feels like a balancing act. I probably need to hit up the ball hopper again. Been almost exclusively committed to doubles league...

Alternative methods for a "11-12 o clock" toss?

It's been over a year. I'm continuing to do an arc toss on 2nd serve, but still quite inconsistent. Anyone else with suggestions/ideas?

    Which stroke is really harder

Backhand Overhead is a much more difficult shot to hit because you're almost always out of position when you need to do it. It's also a very injury-prone shot to attempt as well if you're not in decent physical condition. Another thing is.. most of the time when using a bh overhead, you have to...

TRACKING THE BALL OR WATCHING THE OTHER PLAYER?

Never really thought about this that closely, but I think its probably a mixture of both for me. I do know that I track the opponent's movement well enough that I can discern what caused any error they make. Like moving too late, anticipating wrong through their footwork, mishit from a bad...

    Lead 3 and 9 - kick serve

I think as long as you add more weight to a racquet, the racquet will have more forward momentum on all of your strokes and will automatically result in more depth. You might have to make some kinda technical adjustment to compensate. Maybe either aim slightly lower or adjust your swing path a bit.

Serving at the net guy in doubles?

I actually accidentally did this during a league match earlier this year. I poorly mistimed one of my serves and it launched towards opposing net guy, and he ended up volleying it. It was the weirdest way of winning a point I ever experienced personally.

Trouble controlling volleys back to BL player

If you accidentally hit your volleys short then you're probably hitting your volleys off-center or contacting the ball close to the hoop. I have a friend who also struggled with getting depth on his volleys and hitting off-center was the main cause; which made it especially difficult to practice...

Getting aggressive, hard hitting inside the baseline.

I'm actually a bit of a headcase when it comes to taking balls early. I'm probably the opposite of most people. I hate backing up, I tend to hug the baseline and take most balls early or on the rise, regardless of the ball height. One tip from my own experience, is that you need to hit the ball...

Volley ready position - elbows forward?

I think a lot of instructors teach beginners to have the centered and forward volley ready position because it gives the player equal distance to covering both the forehand and backhand sides, while keeping their contact point always in front. However there's a huge flaw in this style because it...

    Tennis improvement and age

Regarding improvement of technique, I think a big factor to how quickly you improve is how much bad technique/habits you need to UNLEARN first before you start replacing it with proper techniques. This is what I like about training new players regardless of age. They're a new slate or blank...

What are the by-product, automatic elements?

I've been constantly tweaking my serve all year. Trying different things with varying degrees of success. One thing that I've always struggled with has been a very shallow racquet drop and not enough engagement of an elbow bend. There was one major change I tried these past couple of weeks...

How to politely not give out advice

I had the opposite issue recently. Practicing with someone who won't stop criticizing my game. Not only that but also giving me wrong advice. How tf do I get them to shut up?... politely?

    Kenin serve toss

Sometimes I think unique quirks of players might be a result of over-correction of a technical issue during their development. Similar to those pro players who start their serves already in the racquet drop position. They probably had issues with not enough racquet drop, and had to practice with...

    Doubles Sucks

Recently played a doubles match with a very negative talking partner. Its normal to make mistakes throughout the course of a match, but the negativity of my partner just snowballed making me play worse over time. At times it felt like I was playing against 3 opponents. Its more helpful to...

Is the ball toss more consistent using platform stance?

Thanks for the input, everyone Personally, I've been struggling this whole year with my serve. Making tweaks here and there on a regular basis, but it always feels like if I add or fix something, another thing ends up breaking.. like some weird game of whack-a-mole. I think I'm gonna just...

Is the ball toss more consistent using platform stance?

This is probably a question more appropriate for people who have used or tried both styles of serve stances (pinpoint & platform) I've been using the pinpoint stance for the last few years. I originally used a platform stance but I somehow developed the tendency to move to the pinpoint over...

should I do calisthenics or weightlifting for tennis?

Weight training for legs and calisthenics for upper body. Ever since I started playing tennis very regularly, I tend to refrain from weight training the upper body to reduce strain of the wrist, elbow and shoulders. For calisthenics I would do pull-ups, push-ups, and tricep dips, which IMO are...

    Is stomping feet a hindrance?

Funny you mention grunting. In general, I don't mind grunting. I might occasionally grunt from time to time. But a couple of weeks ago I was playing a casual doubles match and one of the opponents had a really loud and DELAYED grunt.. the guy probably grunts about 1 or 2 seconds after the ball...

Start serve from racquet drop position

I've had the same issue for a long time. I've always struggled by having too shallow of a racquet drop. Been continuously tweaking my serve this year to try to improve it. Best thing to do is to video record yourself on a regular basis, maybe at least once a month. The interesting thing is, my...

Any other hardcourt sliders wearing a hole in the side of their shoe?

Many tennis shoes have a built-in side protector, like the Adidas Barricade 8. It's usually a kinda plastic layer that will add some durability to the shoe in case of sliding. Personally I do have wear on the inner side of my shoes as well, my white Asics shoes have tint of blue from...

Open string pattern only for <4.0 NTRP?

I think a lower level player should probably use open patterns for a few reasons. Extra power and extra forgiveness, which are basically the same thing for a novice player. Open patterns will lose less power on off-center hits. Also a novice probably swings slower, so a bigger head or more open...

How to change a double match (when you're losing)

Before or at the beginning of your match, you need to communicate with your partner and try to understand how they play, their tendencies and preferences. Not just forehand/backhand or preferred side, but how's your volley, are you confident with overheads, can you run well, more consistent from...

Don't have enough time to change grips

This is one thing I don't miss about using a one-hander. The grip change issue is actually one of the main reasons why some of the best returners are 2hbh players. If you're struggling with grip change in rallies then you're probably not* anticipating well enough, but if it's mainly a serve...

    Is stomping feet a hindrance?

I didn't get distracted or have my shots affected by it; I was able to filter it out fine. But I thought it seemed very disrespectful and unsportsmanlike on their part, especially considering they were the top team of the league. I also mentioned in an earlier comment about the...

    Is stomping feet a hindrance?

This thread has really escalated.. lol To clarify anything, the opponent net person, was standing in place, I was hitting the ball back to the opponent baseliner. Playing for a good hour, I didn't notice anything outside of what you would expect from standard footwork. But there were some...

    Is stomping feet a hindrance?

I'm just wondering what the rule is and curious what everyone thinks about this.. In a doubles match, if the net guy of the opposing team stomps their foot right before I play my shot, could that be considered an hindrance? I think they were trying to trick me into thinking that they were...
