I do not have any V5 yet, but on TC97 there is a noticeable difference between V2,V3 -> V4. Swingweight went down from 334 -> 328 ( for my preferred configuration 320/310 ).

    Jannick Sinner racquet?

I strongly suspect that trying to emulate his exact specs will yield you nothing ( unless you are exceptionally strong ). I am basing this on my own experience. Swinging 340sw racquet requires a lot of strength. And not in the arm — in the entire body. Sinner’s slim looks are very deceptive. You...

    Racquets for Sinner’s technique

I tried to setup some Head Speed racquets to Sinner’s specs, and worked on emulating his technique. I need to say, it ended nowhere. I almost decided that is not for me, and almost abandoned it. However, I have discovered later, accidentally, that his technique works very well with Volkl V8 Pro...

I still play to this day with CX 2.0+ (predecessor to 200+). It is a much more aggressive racquet than React 99. It has more bite, more power, more stability, and comparable feel. React is nimbler, and will only be an advantage in doubles or at the net. In heavy hitting, it bends. I have not...

Mayami Tour Hex: very low power, so works well at low tensions.

Locked X-1/TBS hybrid - suggestion for comfort & spin hybrid?

None of these strings I would recommend for “Comfort and Spin”. Some strings on your list will generate spin, but at a cost of great discomfort ( Confidential, Tour Bite ). For “Comfort and Spin”, I would use: * TruPro FireWire * Mayami Big Spin / Signum Pro Outbreak * Mayami Tour Hex / Ghostwire

    Winter string/ball setup?

I go 4 lbs lower for the winter. I use soft polys. Gut in the winter has been a disappointment for me. It just snaps while in the bag… I sometimes manage to play only once! before that happens. ☹️ For balls, best bounce - hands down - is Tretorn Micro X. But some people mind them. So, the next...

Does anyone else feel like tennis shoes just aren’t comfortable?

Yes, there are very few that actually cushion, esp. lately. You have to try quite a few before you can find the ones that are acceptable.

My preferred Angell is TC97 Tour (320/310) 16x19. I have the Head Extreme Pro and Speed MP, all pro stocks. Even with all the dampening from silicone, they fall behind TC97 in feel. In terms of power, Extreme Pro is an absolute winner here. TC97 is second. Speed MP is, surprisingly, not that...

Luxilon "Forest Green" is approximately the same color as the racquet. Grapplesnake M8 ( pale greenish-gray ) will blend in as well, with a small amount of contrast.

    H22 pro stock feels stiff?

You may be just experiencing the difference between a very open 16x19 and a very dense 18x20. Especially if you use poly, and you string high. That transition may be striking… My H22 is one of the softest racquet I’ve ever played. It feels much softer than the Angell TC95 18x20 with RA63 unstrung.

    3 types of racquet stiffness

By the same token, we all should be playing with something like Dunlop LX — with extremely wide and rigid shoulders, and yet most rackets have a very elongated Y design. https://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Dunlop_LX_800/descpageRCDUNLOP-LX800.html

    3 types of racquet stiffness

Torsional stiffness will not do a thing. Consider this: racket is in flight. It gets an off-center hit. It will rotate. Tortional stiffness will only come into play if you grip the racquet so hard that it prevents any rotation at the handle. Then the torsional forces will have some work to do...

Angell clones of Pro Staff racquets. Is this possible ?

No, they are quite different. Angells have : Significantly higher swingweights, Significantly higher power, Significantly better feel. Because of the swingweight, they are more demanding to play with. If you play infrequently, that can be a serious obstacle. Racquet that is much closer to...

    NE1, COMPARE 24' cx200 tour 16x19 to TC95?

They are not close: CX200 Tour SW=314, TC95 SW=330. Correspondingly, one is fast, nimble, easy to play with. The other feels solid and hits a heavy ball.

Help me decide on a racquet. Pro Staff V14 vs RF 01 Pro (or any other).

A racquet that hits like ProStaff 97, but with a slightly more power, is ProStaff X. On swings, it feels identical. Easy drop-in replacement.

Volkl C10 Pro vs. C10 Evo

I also play to this day with C10 Pro Xtended. I have several. Some of them are 346g, others are 326g strung. Needless to say, there is an abyss between them on court. The heavy ones are unplayable to me. I also tried the C10 EVO. It is much lighter, swings faster, feels stiffer. No pocketing and...

Are there polys that give you power on the serve but control based on groundstrokes?

120 mph vs. 80 mph impact speed. Any material will exhibit different response, not just poly.

Are there polys that give you power on the serve but control based on groundstrokes?

Luxilon Alu Power ( esp in gauge 110 ) has that property. On serve, it delivers quite a boost, but on groundstrokes it feels very dead ( “total control” as some people will put it. )

Difference between thick string & low tension to thin string & high tension

Thin strings at 38-44 lbs work very well in 18x20. They will be too wild in 16x19. For spin - will be fantastic. For serves — superb. If you hit with extreme brush — OK, but if not, every shot becomes a gamble. Maybe a terrific winner, or may miss the court by 5 feet.

Difference between thick string & low tension to thin string & high tension

Which one you’d like better depends on your taste or history. Thick strings + low tension : the stringbed bends (very slightly) solidly as one whole. You get a deadish / flatish response, but very uniform and predictable. Spin is weak ( comparatively ). Thin strings + high tension : different...

Thicker crosses than mains - 18x20 pattern

I have used Gosen Poly Master I and II as crosses. This is a rectangular string (~ a ribbon). As expected, it dampened down the stringbed, improved control a bit. But that is it. Kind of like transitioning to a thicker gauge overall. Nothing spectacular happened.

Poly strings in high heat — is it just me, or MSV …

In my experience, all polys behave like this. When temperature drops, it will become stiff again.

Synthetic Gut more spin than some poly's?

And yes — there are polys that produce very poor spin. Plenty of them.
  30. Tennisist

Synthetic Gut more spin than some poly's?

Some syn guts are soft, but Some are stiff, and behave the same, if not better, than soft poly. The primary factor for spin is string sliding. Syn gut’s downfall lies here. Strong friction develops very quickly (even on syn guts with the best coatings). If you take this friction out of the...
