What stringing machine should I get for under 2000$?

I have a Tomcat MT-400 which I’ve had for a couple years now. I string only for myself and a couple friends now and then which comes to something like half a dozen stringing jobs a month. This machine suits my needs but honestly if I were stringing as much as you plan to and making a business...

2023 Yonex VCore Pro Racquets / 2024 Percept Racquets

So for me, the 97 and the 100D are very close in terms of launch angle and access to spin. I’ve been playing with the 2021 vcore pro 97 since they came out and still love that frame. Lately went demoing in search of a little more pop and a little more forgiveness. I tried a bunch of different...

I played with syn gut and loved it! For 2 hours...

Another vote for Tecnifibre multifeel black (has to be the black) in the mains and a soft, smooth, slick poly in the crosses (ghostwire, MSV swift, isospeed cream). It will give you the feel you enjoyed from the Syngut but last a lot longer before it starts locking up.

2023 Yonex VCore Pro Racquets / 2024 Percept Racquets

I demoed both the 100 and 100D and for me they felt very different. My current (soon to be “last") frame is the 2021 vcore pro 97, and coming from that baseline, for me the 100 was nearly un-playable. It felt big and awkward and similar to when I demoed the ezone 100, I felt like I had no idea...

Vcore Pro 97: why "start at throat" despite 8 grommets in throat?

The Yonex site stringing instructions for the VCORE Pro 97 (that’s my frame) did used to say to start at the head (which is correct). I’m certain that when they rebuilt that page, whoever did it just copy-pasted that incorrectly from another racquet.

Demo received with this finishing knot for the final cross…

I have a feeling that whether it “can” or not may not be relevant.

Demo received with this finishing knot for the final cross…

It’s actually two crosses below and you’re right that it’s not the correct tie-off. That’s 11T and the manufacturer’s instructions (it’s a Wilson Shift 99/300) say to tie that cross off at 8T (which looks fine and would have been easy to tie off at). When stringing my own racquets, I sometimes...

Demo received with this finishing knot for the final cross…

Soooooo…. I just received a demo from a well-known tennis equipment retailer and this is the finishing knot for the last cross (these are fresh strings - not hit with yet).

List of multis that don’t lock up

Multifeel for me. Just as in the mains, I like it better than velocity. But I have never liked the performance (or durability) of full bed multi; every time I’ve tried it I ended up cutting it out after one hitting session. For me the string bed locks up so fast with multi crosses that it...

List of multis that don’t lock up

I’ve tried a lot of different syn guts and multis in mains and none of them have been as good for me as multifeel black. I’ve tried different colors and gauges of velocity because so many people seem to like it a lot. I thought velocity was pretty good and I’d probably play it over X1 biphase...

Synthetic gut Mains / Polyester Crosses Club

Here are three that I like: Tru Pro (Tier 1) Ghostwire MSV Swift Isospeed Cream

Arm friendly setup that snap back but hold tension for a long time?

I’m a pretty flat hitter and not a typical “string breaker” (i.e. when I used to play with full bed, very skinny - like 1.15 gauge polys, i never broke them ever) and I never get more than 12 - 14 hours of play on the 1.25 multifeel I use in the mains. Sometimes (depending who I am hitting with...

Arm friendly setup that snap back but hold tension for a long time?

Exactly. The multifeel mains will break (even for non-string-breakers) before the poly crosses are totally kaput. Also, the crosses tension seem to me to be a lot less important than the mains tension.

Arm friendly setup that snap back but hold tension for a long time?

For me, Multifeel black in the mains and one of several soft poly crosses gives me the best multifilament experience both with respect to feel and especially string movement. The crosses that I’ve found to be best (not in any order) are MSV swift, Isospeed Cream, Tru Pro (aka Tier One) Ghostwire.

    Multi/Poly Hybrid?

@Fluffy_Skye If you like how NRG2 feels in the mains, I can recommend trying Tecnifibre Multifeel black in the mains. It’s quite a bit less cost and for me actually feels a little better than NRG2. Edit: I’ve also tried Velocity mains and I prefer both NRG2 and Multifeel over Velocity. For...

2023 Yonex VCore Pro Racquets / 2024 Percept Racquets

100% exactly why I switched from the VCP 330’s I used to play with to the newer VCP 97 (2021 model). The 330’s stability and plowthrough feels great when I’m fresh but it is just a lot of weight to swing for a couple hours. I’m sure this is not an issue for pros and high-level players who are...

Why are my strings curved - just got racket strung?

I just did a pair of demos from TW and they both looked exactly like that when they arrived. I cut the smiling stringbed out and restrung them before I even hit with the racquets (whoever got those demos after me can thank me later).

Stringing crosses on an eCP question

I release the prior clamp after pulling tension the way Ron Yu does it because I mostly learned how to string by watching that exact video of Ron Yu posted above and I just assume he knows things about stringing that I don’t. However, as @Wes cautioned, once or twice I HAVE had a string slip or...

    Basic Stringing Method Questions

I clamp a wooden clothes pin around the string between the inside of the frame and the starting clamp. It sits around the grommet and makes it so the starting clamp’s pressure pushes on the frame instead of the grommet.

Why would someone use synth gut mains and poly cross

This thread probably has more than you want to know about this setup: https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/synthetic-gut-mains-polyester-crosses-club.618668/ I've played it and like it, though I've since switched to multis instead of syngut for the mains. I have flatter strokes...

Looking for comfortable string setup recommendations

Following up: I hit with the Velocity a couple more times after that first day and it felt like it got worse and worse; deader feel and moving out of place more. I probably played it for 6 hours and then cut it out and replaced it with MF 1.25 mains at 54 and GW 1.17 crosses at 50. I’m curious...

Looking for comfortable string setup recommendations

I’ve never played YPTA at all, but if it’s similar to isospeed cream as several people have mentioned in this thread, try a hybrid with the multifeel black in the mains and YPTA a few pounds lower tension in the crosses (maybe 56/52). I have no idea if that hybrid will work for you - you...

TRU PRO (formerly Tier One Sports) Ghostwire vs. Isospeed Cream

LOL, I knew you’d write that. Thanks, and I am sure you are absolutely correct. But I also have to point out that I do routinely get 12+ hours of play out of 1.25 and 1.30 multifeel and 1.24 X-one biphase crossed with the same 1.17 GW. I have also strung the 1.22 GW following your logic of...

TRU PRO (formerly Tier One Sports) Ghostwire vs. Isospeed Cream

I like both cream and ghostwire as crosses for multi mains. I totally agree that you can really feel the rubber in cream - both on the machine and also in the stringbed on court. There’s something i like about that, but there’s also something i don’t like and on-balance GW feels like it works...

@g4driver As far as you know is that just the 1.35mm and not the other gauges?

@ttlapointe I should also mention that I do some minor pre-stretching (15%) on all the multifilament mains as I’m stringing them up.

Looking for comfortable string setup recommendations

Sorry, I have never played the MF natural - only the black. From what I’ve read, others have said the black seems to be a little stiffer and slicker and that’s what I was looking for so that’s all I’ve used of the multifeel.

Looking for comfortable string setup recommendations

So I played three sets this afternoon with the Velocity mains and ghostwire crosses. The Velocity is 1.25 gauge and the pink color. I can’t speak to any durability yet because my relatively flat strokes always give me a fair bit of time with strings but in terms of feel i can say that it felt...

Looking for comfortable string setup recommendations

I’m always experimenting with different setups but my current “reference” is a hybrid with TF multifeel black 1.30 in the mains and Tier1 Ghostwire 1.17 in the crosses. I tried Triax in the mains some time back and also broke it pretty quick and I am very much not a string breaker. I also will...
