Is 16 by 19 string pattern always better for serving than a 18 by 20?

No. All things equal, the 18x20 will be better for hitting your spots, 16x19 will give you more power and spin. If you want more control the 18x20 will be better, if you want more power and spin then the 16x19 will be better, it all depends on your preference.

    2020 Most POWERFUL string now!

Poly strings have no power when compared to gut. Natural gut is 100% the most powerful string out there (Babolat is more powerful than luxilon natural gut, those are the two best brands of gut in my opinion). Multifilaments would be next, followed by solid cores (synthetic guts) then poly as the...

Most control for junior out of these three.

None of those will be control racquets in the slightest. The pure drive family are very powerful racquets. However, out of the three, the tour might give the most control (as long as it's not too heavy for him) due to a slightly slower swing speed. This will help him be able to hit the sweet...

Lowest tension you have ever used?

I used to play with a stiff poly at 60 pounds, but now that I know better I'm down to 40 pounds. Haven't ventured south of there yet, but I'm considering trying it out.

    Head Lynx Tour

I was pleasantly surprised with Lynx Tour, with a different experience than those on the TW playtest team. I found it on the suffer side for a poly but not super dead like most differ polys; not overly powerful but definitely moreso than I expected. I found slightly better feel/touch than I...

New Dunlop racquets on the way - SX Spin Series

PX line for power? Or maybe FX for force? Or BX for Bam!? No idea what the other one could be. FX for feel? VX for volley? GX for Grandpa? OX for oversize? TX for tweeners? I could use a racquet dedicated to my tweeners...

Natural Gut tension for junior 26” racquet recommendations

If you really aren't concerned with price, just try experimenting. If he has 2 racquets, do one higher and one lower. If he only has one, just try it on the lower end, around 50, and the next time try it a little higher, say around 55, and see what he likes better. Personally, I wouldn't use...

Natural gut x Solinco Barb Wire

I had to string it in a Prince O-port with an 18x20 pattern at 60 pounds for a guy multiple times. It is still to this day my last favorite setup I've had to deal with.

Does poly in a kids racket go dead as fast as adult?

The difference with her though is that she has physically developed. She is strong enough to compete with those women and swing hard enough to use poly and still protect her body from injury. 10-11 year olds haven't developed yet and should not be using the same equipment as someone who has...

Does poly in a kids racket go dead as fast as adult?

You have to be careful when looking at those numbers. They are great for comparing two strings that are the same type/construction, like a poly to another poly, but they don't do a great job of comparing different types/constructions, like say a poly to a multi. Also, while there are softer...

Does poly in a kids racket go dead as fast as adult?

If spin is what you're after, try some shaped or textured synthetics or multis. Solinco x-natural and gamma professional spin are good multis. Gamma tnt rough or ocho tnt are good options for synthetics with a solid core. They still can't produce the same spin that a poly can, but they should...

Does poly in a kids racket go dead as fast as adult?

Just because a lot of people do it doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Does poly in a kids racket go dead as fast as adult?

That's far too young to be using poly. 3 weeks playing 5 days per week actually isn't bad at all. If you want something more durable though, either go with a more durable multi like maybe something that comes in a 15g, or even go with a synthetic gut like gamma tnt or Yonex dynawire. If you're...

Natural gut x Solinco Barb Wire

I would never use this combo. I always use round, smooth poly strings if I'm using it in a hybrid with gut. Any edges or roughness will just shred through the gut faster.

String Bed Density and the One-Handed Backhand

I prefer the denser pattern, especially on the one hand backhand. Yeah, there are occasions where I'd prefer a slightly more open pattern for the spin, depth, and launch angle, but I think the majority of the time I prefer the denser pattern, plus I find it easier to just tell myself to hit a...

    Wilson QC and Serial Numbers?

Those two were probably from the same "batch" and from the same factory. Most companies use a bid system to get the lowest manufacturing costs within their given tolerances, but Wilson *supposedly* (I cannot prove, but I have heard) is unique in that every production run or batch they do a new...

5.0 Players, what are your strings of choice?

I don't have a usual setup right now as I don't play competitively at the moment, so I just try a lot. My favorite setups have been Lux gut/Tecnifibre Pro Red Code Wax, Lux gut/Dunlop NT Max Plus, full LXN Smart (I was a little surprised I liked this as much as I did), and full Head Experimental...

    Best string combination for spin/comfort

You could try a shaped/textured synthetic like gamma ocho tnt/gamma tnt rough. Even softer you could go for a textured multi like solinco x-natural.

just bought a swirly pure drive .. any ideas on strings for someone w/ chronic TE?

If you have chronic tennis elbow then you shouldn't be using a pure drive at all, or any babolat really. That being said, your only hope would be gut or a soft multi like silk.

HELP! Need String That Doesn't Lose Tension

No, that's not close to tour level. He should be able to get 6-12 hours out of a set of poly. 4G should give him on the long side of that range, not below that range.

HELP! Need String That Doesn't Lose Tension

Your problem is not with the strings. You are using a very low-powered racquet with very low-powered strings at very tight tensions. I think you need to work on your technique. 4G is already one of the lowest powered strings. If you're intent on fixing your problem with just strings, I really...

I'd say you always need one more. That's what I find myself thinking all the time at least.

Has anyone tried a main Nat Gut w/ any Solinco or Tecnifibre cross?

I don't ever plan on putting any shaped poly in the crosses of a hybrid, especially with gut mains. The sides don't generate more spin if they're only in the crosses and they will just saw through the mains quicker. +1 for Tecnifibre Pro Red Code Wax for the crosses though, I was very happy...

    Gravity, Flex and Beam Width!

First, RA is just one measure of stiffness, but it is not the only one. Also, you are correct, the general rule is that a thing frame is more flexible than a thicker frame, but that doesn't mean that that is always the case. Take a look at the Clash for example: thicker frame than a lot of...

    Your favorite Head string

The two I would go after first would be the soon-to-be-released head experimental string and velocity. Then probably lynx or hawk touch, and maybe fxp.

Tension advice for 18 x 20 low powered racquet?

I would just play around with it some. I used to have full poly at 60 pounds in a 96" head. Currently I have a set of full poly on my 18x20 95" head at just 40 pounds. Experiment to see what you like. The trend lately is to go low, especially if you're using full poly, so definitely try it, but...

    Modern alternative to Wilson Six.One 95 18X20? Blade's and VCORE's aren't making the cut.

It's a little softer, but I'd consider the Dunlop CX 200 Tour 18x20. You will need to add lead tape, but it responds really well to customization. I don't know that it'll solve your problem, but it might work.

Thoughts after trying gut/poly for the first time ever

Let us know how long the setup lasts for you. I was pleasantly surprised with how long it lasted for me when I first tried it. Last year at the end of the year luxilon did a sale on all of their strings, buy 3+ sets and get them for half off, and it included their gut, so I took advantage and it...

Question for all who have switched to heavier frames

    1. Why did you switch? A) As I started hitting against bigger hitters, I wanted the added stability/plow from a heavier racquet. Sometimes I feel that I was getting pushed around with my lighter racquet and that the ball was hitting me moreso than me hitting the ball if that makes sense. The...

Best Polys for 18x20 string pattern

First you said your first priority was power. Then you said you were a 3.5 player. You also said "I add some spin in my ground strokes but not looking to rely heavily on it as an advantage." Those three things tell me that you probably shouldn't be playing with polyester strings to begin with. I...
