Why is Fognini playing qualifiers. He's ranked 62 and the cutoff is in the 90s? Is he playing the qualies by choice? I can see doing that in a small tournament where there aren't so many points and $$$ at stake, but if that's what he's doing here it seems like an unnecessary risk.

I'm SURE he feels the same way! His rip it from the hip style is absolutely hopeless on clay. No way for the winners to outnumber the unforced errors. He should focus on doubles during the clay court season. He'd get some work on the volleys and return that way at least.

Isner really struggled on serve in the 2nd set. Karlovic had break opportunities in 3 service games but only came through the 1st time when Isner lost 4 points in a row, all on 2nd serves.

I'd vote for Dent actually over most of the other potentials listed. He's been top 20 before and the only reason he's not ranked high enough to qualify directly is because he's been injured and hasn't had a chance to compete much. Levine on the other hand has had all year to win enough ranking...

Wimbledon gave some wildcards to non-citizens when their own journeyman pros weren't ranked high enough to meet their self-imposed guidelines. So I think the US Open could probably give a wild card to a non-citizen. Does the USTA have a regulation that they can only go to Americans? They did...

Donna sucks big time! Last year I thought she might be stepping it up, but this shows that wasn't true. Once the points drop off from her wild card and walkover win at last year's US Open she'll fall back in the ranking range where she belongs.
