    The 94th Academy Awards

Ahh...Will Smith was just angry, bitter and taking it out on Rock because his "serious film" flops big time at the box office...again. He's no A list actor and people know it, except Hollywood of course. He was paid a whopping 40 cool millions for the role and total world wide revenue barely...

What was the last movie you watched?

No Time To Die Appropriate title because for the entire movie I kept telling myself it's time to nap. I paid my money expecting a spy movie, instead I got a soap opera barring a few decent scenes. Better off watching paint dry!

How come so many rec. players never lob?

To me playing tennis means not going to my phone check for messages between lobs or moon balls.

How come so many rec. players never lob?

I can lob but choose not to most of the time. Lobbing is boring tennis.

Can you rally 15-20 balls like Tennis_Balla(deep drives, DTM), especially at 3.5 level?

This is a very common half court warm up when we train with the ball must land beyond the service line. Twenty is usually the magic number. It does wonder if you do it right because you really work on your DTL, directional and depth control.

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

Playing guys like you is intimidating and could be demoralizing with the wrong strategy. Not much I can do with big serves other than trying to get a handle of the first serve, going after the second serve, and hopefully I can tire you out enough during the set so that your first serve...

    ROS videos recommendations

The good news is most servers have time to aim at your weaknesses so ROS naturally is a bit more difficult. More good news is ROS is a essentially a ground stroke just a more specialized one, so focus on improving your ground strokes especially your BH then you will see big difference. The very...

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

A low dipping return is effective only if the serve is relative short and returner can take it within his strike zone. A good S&V's serve is mostly designed to prevent that by either pushing you back or pulling you wide. Against a good net rusher, the ROS is the only time you have half the court...

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

People often think DTL is a low hard shot skimming the net cord 2 inches from the lines, but nothing is further from the truth as it could be a lob, slice, drive, block, top spin at medium pace...as long as it is away from the server rushing the net which requires him to travel the most distance...

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

I am with you. That DTL ROS is the best weapon against S&V If you are sensitive then maybe you should not put yourself out there for comments. I am talking about the shot the tactic just like guys would talk watching tennis on TV. No need to take it so personal

We are talking tennis not evaluating any player's personal level or performance, no? They are both fantastic players and thanks for posting...happy?

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

You are right most first serves were good but not the second serves, and to me Max was not overwhelmed but somehow chose to be conservative with his returns. Like one serve on deuce side came to his FH with plenty of time and half a court wide open but he elected to hit right back at the server...

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

I understand your reasoning but we have have different approaches playing against S&V. The main goal of a good serve and volleyer is to get in good position and execute the first volley as well as he could, so my approach is to prevent him from accomplishing that goal. If he knows you are going...

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

It does not have to be a perfect DTL, just stretching him out is more than enough. His second serve is very attackable. Floating a return mid-court to a S&V is the worst option.

    MaxTennis vs S&V-not_dead_yet

Clearly S&V was a better player of the day so he was able to dictate the play throughout. Max was not helping himself tactically by being too tentative with his return of serves, hitting right back to the opponent which allowed S&V to hit his first volley comfortably most of the time. The...

You don’t have to swing fast for control

The coach didn't say anything about swinging fast. He said full acceleration prior to contact which is the way it is supposed to be.

Almost all tennis points are 4 shots or less ... is that relevant to choosing a strategy?

If you are ever curious, next time you watch a singles tennis match at your level, keep track of how many service return errors per game on both sides.

How to curb that enthusiasm and build the point

Been there done that for me. I improve match play dramatically by improving DTL shots on both wings as you can see even with the pros whoever has better DTL shots usually wins. My go to play now is 2 CC 1 DTL (high, safe margin, and 70% power)

Almost all tennis points are 4 shots or less ... is that relevant to choosing a strategy?

The above maybe true with your experiences but as you play with better players nothing is further from the truth because the serve is the most controlled shot for the server aiming at your weaknesses whatever that maybe. As a result, so many unforced errors in match play because returners...

Almost all tennis points are 4 shots or less ... is that relevant to choosing a strategy?

The problem with this theory is that you can only attack the second serve only if it is attackable within your ability, and many miss because of this. The reality is that the majority of second serve is going to be on your weaker wing with a lot of spin and the bounce either lower or higher than...

Almost all tennis points are 4 shots or less ... is that relevant to choosing a strategy?

I think so. Even with the pros their average first serve percentage is hovering around 60%, not exactly overwhelming. For rec players across the board that number is a lot worse, so I don't agree with the conventional wisdom that the serve is the most important shot. For most rec players the...

My Generalized Observations from the NTRP Nationals

Oh man... please don't do this to yourself! As a leader you are in a league of your own and the worst thing to do is second-guessing yourself. I have the fantastic "selective memory" syndrome which serves me well most of the time except I seem to not remember the score when playing tennis if I...
