Whats your top 10 of all time now (men)

Great list but too much OE heavy in my opinion. Disgree on: Kramer(#17), McEnroe(#18), Connors(#19) and Agassi(#22). I have in top 15: William Renshaw, Laurence Doherty, Anthony Wilding and Ellsworth Vines.

Who was better in the HC slams: Agassi in 2004 or Djokovic in 2023?

Fed fan logic 2004-07 Federer destroying mediocre competiton on HC: "He was unbeatable. He would've destroyed peak Djokovic too here." 2023 Djokovic destroying mediocre competition on HC: "OMG, weak era! He would've lost against slightly better competition."

Best Player(s) never to make it to the 2nd week of a slam?

I took this one seriously. Best players who never made R16: Jeff Tarango: 0-7 in R32, played R32 in all 4 GS, BR #42, 2 Titles. Jordi Arrese: 0-4 in R32(All in RG), BR #23, 6 Titles, SFs at Hamburg and Rome. He played almost only on clay. Pablo Cuevas: 0-4 in R32(All in RG), BR #19, 6 Titles...

    Djokovic News

Honestly, probably the less crushing loss in a GS in last years. Maybe it's because I like Sinner and I'm happy for him. (I'm Italian) Maybe it's because it's AO, and I absolutely prefer another WIM or another USO than another AO. Maybe it's because Nole already has the slam record locked, has...

    Djokovic News

Yes, he has it right now. But Nole will likely surpass him soon. Federer was #1 the last time on 18/06/2018. He is born 08/08/1981, so he was 36 years 10 months and 10 days when he was #1 the last time. Nole is born 22/05/1987. So he will be 36 years, 10 months and 10 days on 01-04-2024. I...

    Djokovic News

If my math is correct, we have to mark these dates on the calendar: 18 March - After Indian Wells - If Nole is the #1, he ties Federer for the oldest #1 at 36 years, 10 months and 10 days. 01 April - After Miami - If Nole is the #1, he become the oldest #1 at 36 years, 10 months and 24 days...

Which years is stronger? 2009 or 2015

Best player: 2015 Djokovic > 2009 Federer (Clearly) Main rival: 2009 Nadal > 2015 Federer/Murray (Nadal has an obvious better peak level, even better than 2009 Fed, but struggled with injuries for an important part of the season) Consistent but slamless rival: 2015 Federer/Murray > 2009 Djokovic...

The Holy Trinity of the 4 slams...

Pretty simple for every slam to say which player are the top 3, more debatable the order. Australian Open: 1. Djokovic 2. Federer 3. Agassi Easy one. Roland Garros: 1. Nadal 2. Borg 3. Djokovic Pretty easy this one too. No doubt on 1 and 2 and Djokovic has a clear edge on other 3 times...

    Medvedev is a mediocre player

Open Era: top 30. All-Time: I think in the 60s or 70s right now. Can be top 50 by the times he retires. (I have Roddick borderline top 50)

Is there a year where PRIME MURRAY could have won the CYGS?

Murray was consistent but had at least one bad slam almost every year. His only theoretical CYGS version is 2011 and, maybe, 2012(But at RG he lost against Ferrer). The only year where I can see him be the favorite or near favorite at every slam is 2002, but I think his 2011 version can't beat...

IF...Murray was born in 1982 & Roddick born in 1987, who would've had a more Successful Slam Career?

So Murray would be 5 years younger. I think he would've been his shots, these are some of the best: -2008 Murray in 2003 US Open. -2010 Murray in 2005 AO. With Roddick draw he could capitalize Federer's upset. -2013 Murray in 2008 AO. He beat Federer and play well for two sets against prime...

A solid measure of ERA strength from 2000-2023

Not flawless but, like any reasonable index of era strenght, it give the same answer: 2012-13 were great years. 2014-16 and 2007-10 were good. Recent years are (relative) weak, but at most as weak as 2003-06, if not better. 2000-02 is one of the weaker eras in tennis history.

If my math is correct, Nole has this point gaps on Alcaraz: -390 after Australian Open (Can become 110 in Nole favor if he wins today) 1090 after Miami (Can became 1590) - If he will be #1 here he will match Federer's older #1 record at 36y 10m 10d. (And very likely broke it the next week) 2320...

Has Djokovic become a clearer GOAT in tennis than Messi and Jordan in their sports?

I think that is exactly what he was meaning when talked about "cult" and "hysterical reactions". :-D

Has Djokovic become a clearer GOAT in tennis than Messi and Jordan in their sports?

They modified the rules, 2023 is not about 2023 calendar year but about 2022-23 season. By the way, in this season he wasn't even the best player on a team like PSG, that had an underwhelming season. Obviously, World Cup made the difference. I understand it, so I think some other wins are...

Has Djokovic become a clearer GOAT in tennis than Messi and Jordan in their sports?

Easily. He is now undisputed GOAT. Messi and Jordan aren't. Messi's case heavily weight the 8 ballons d'or, which are more a popularity thing than a real achievement(See: 2010, 2021). He still has one less Champions League than Cristiano Ronaldo(4 vs 5), and in the first one he was a rotational...

So, Zverev beat Alkaraz in first round and is out before third round... This format...

I know there is a possibility where there are 2 dead rubbers in day 3, but that's fair IMO. If 2 players both beat each of the other ones, they got the access to SF. I understand, also, why organizators don't make it this way. But as a sport fan: fairness > drama IMO. Djokovic/Zverev had worst...

So, Zverev beat Alkaraz in first round and is out before third round... This format...

I think it would be better, in R2, if they play "R1a Winner vs R1b Loser" and "R1b Winner vs R1a Loser" instead of "Winner vs Winner" and "Loser vs Loser". -If 2 players got two wins they're in before R3. They got it. -If 2 losers in R1 win in R2, they have a four-way tie at 1-1. Two "make or...

Which is more likely, peak Djokovic defeating peak Federer at Wimbledon or peak Djokovic defeating peak Nadal at Roland Garros?

Easily Federer at Wimbledon. I think something like this: PEAK Djokovic WIM 15 vs Federer WIM 05: 6-4 Federer Djokovic RG 13 vs Nadal RG 08: 9-1 Nadal PRIME Djokovic WIM 11-15/18/21 vs Federer WIM 03-09: 6-4 Federer Djokovic RG 11-16/21 vs Nadal RG 07-13 or 08-14: 8-2 Nadal

    To debunk WTF group

Short version from Nole's prospective: If Nole wins 2-0, he is in SFs. Doesn't mind which is the result of Rune-Sinner. (It matter only for being 1st or 2nd in the group, but he can't be eliminated) If Nole doesn't win 2-0 (Wins 2-1 or loses) he need Sinner to beat Rune in order to be in SFs...

    To debunk WTF group

Without equations, I think there is a fairly strict demonstation that a combination that takes out Nole doesn't exist. We'll call "a solution X" a solution that let's Nole out. 1) Take this possible solution(Solution A): Djokovic d. Hurkacz 7-6 7-6 (Worst possible solution for Nole %) Rune d...

    To debunk WTF group

Without doing the count, in this case Nole will easily beat Sinner. The worst case would be something like: Djokovic 7-6 7-6 Rune wins large enough to surpass Djokovic but not enough to let Djokovic surpass Sinner. Winning 2-0 Djokovic would be at least +3 in game difference(He is +1 now, and...

Who has to play first? (2023 WTF RR Gr. A)

I think that can have a great impact on results. If Sinner-Rune play first and Sinner wins, the second match between Djokovic and Hurkacz would be useless. De facto an exho. If Djokovic-Hurkacz play first and Djokovic doesn't win 2-0, Sinner likely would be less motivated, and that's an unfair...

Imagine winning 27/28 GS matches in a year and calling this your 4th best season?

I agree on that, but my point was that it doesn't mind if someone consider 2021 his 4th best season or 2023 his 4th best season. In both ways he won 27/28 GS matches in his 4th best season.

Imagine winning 27/28 GS matches in a year and calling this your 4th best season?

You can rank 2021 above 2023 or the other way, but, still, the thread title remain right:"He won 27/28 slam matches in his 4th best season".

Which tennis player has benefitted more from weak competition?

I think Big 3 era is pretty good, even "weak eras" in Big 3 standard aren't weak overall. The 3 best player of OE, by a huge margin, played togheter at good to peak level at least in 2007-16(And probably 2018-19). 90s had Sampras, Agassi when he was in, and not much else. So, 90s are not...
