    Great article about Lew Hoad

I saw him (and Rosewall) play at Wimbledon a few times.

Peak Lew Hoad > any version of the Big 3

Gonzales said that Hoad was the best player he'd ever faced. He was a rock!

2022 BWM Open, Munich (ATP 250)

You may be right, but on the other hand, these sort of complaints are becoming more and more common and personally I believe most of them are because of the jabs. He certainly didn't look well.

What Are The Odds Federer is Done in Basel?

I know you've had a lot of advice to the contrary, but I would say "go". It might be your only chance to see him live. Talk to your wife about it, she may understand and personally, I think she would be fine without you there for a couple of days. For all you know, the baby might be late anyway.

International shipping fees ? Why so all over the place ?

Shipping costs from the USA to New Zealand have skyrocketed in the last few years. $80 to $100 in some cases. Occasionally you'll find cheaper ones, but overall, I've had to give up on buying racquets on the bay. The Global Shipping Program has contributed to this I think, but UPS has also...

When are they going to address the second serve nonsense?

When the rules were written, there was no such thing as a "service routine", the way we understand that term. Players just got on with it. Why is there a need to bounce the ball anyway? Personally, I don't and there are many pros who bounce it only two or three times, not 15-20 times. And...

When are they going to address the second serve nonsense?

Federer is a lot older and he doesn't resort to taking more time to "regroup". That is a ridiculous idea and a silly excuse for not sticking to the rules. Anyway, it's not just about the towelling off, it's all the other shenanigans he employs.

When are they going to address the second serve nonsense?

He is breaking the rules, when he takes longer than 25 seconds and most umpires are too scared of him to penalise him when they should. I agree that delaying his opponent's serve is worse though.

Rosewall's forehand grip? aussie or conti?

Yes, I agree. And great picture, love that man.

    Hoad vs Rosewall

Having seen both of them play at Wimbledon in the 1950s, my opinion (fwiw) is that Rosewall was the more consistent player, but Hoad had all the strokes, the upper body strength and the sheer brilliance of anyone I've ever seen. Many players of that era said that they thought he was the best...

When are they going to address the second serve nonsense?

There are a lot more players wasting time like this, it's not just Nadal. So why are you Nadal sycophants getting all snarky?

When are they going to address the second serve nonsense?

The rules say that the second serve should be served "without delay". A lot of players go through their serve routines (we all know who they are) all over again after a fault or net cord (sometimes more than one). Why is this allowed to happen?

    Kyrgios won't give up

If umpire waits for the crowd to "settle down" before calling the score and starting the time clock, that effectively gives the server more time than he is entitled to. That is plainly wrong. Unless there has been a challenge, the umpire should call the score and start the clock as soon as the...

    OCD

The interesting thing is that Nadal, when he was much younger, did not do all these routines, just have a look at his early matches. These rountines have increased in number and intensity over the years, to the point where he does some of them at times other than before his serve. It's become a...

    Fergus Murphy should be suspended.

He certainly does have a point. Nadal gets special treatment and yes, Kyrgios was correct about that. I know that doesn't excuse his bad behavior, but I watched the match and it seemed to me that Fergus Murphy was definitely goading him. You could tell by the expression on his face, he was...

Open letter to Federer about Kyrgios

Exactly! Yes, the heavy fine is enough. Yes, Nadal gets special treatment and yes, Kyrgios was correct about that. I know that doesn't excuse his bad behavior, but I watched the match and it seemed to me that Fergus Murphy was goading him. You could tell by the expression on his face, he was...

2019 Cincinnati Round of 32: Kyrgios vs Khachanov

No, the serve clock should start immediately the previous point finishes. Never mind what the crowd is doing. There are plenty of scoreboards around so people know the score. The 25 second rule is quite clear. And yes, Nadal gets special treatment and yes, Kyrgios was correct about that. I...

    Head Elektra Pro (Prestige)

Without a doubt, this is the most elegant racquet ever made. I'm lucky enough to have snagged one at a reasonable price in mint condition. That, along with my original Prestige Pro, also in mint condition (bought for $5), are my most prized possessions.

I've completely got over the fact that Fed lost the Wimbledon final, but I still can't get over the fact that he LOST THREE TIEBREAKS!

The strange case of Laver's greatness ranking

No way would Nadal win against Laver, without the advantage of modern racquets and strings. He'd be annihilated.

Fed has held MP's and lost in 22 matches throughout his career, Nole just 3 matches.

Another way to look at it is this: the opponents he was playing when he held those match points (e.g. Djokovic Wimbledon 2019) were extremely tough and were good enough to save those match points and go on to win. So perhaps we should try and look at it in a more positive way - at least Fed got...

    Who was ”better” today?

Federer had two championship points. At that point in time, you could say he was the better player. Unaccountably he couldn't convert them and I'm sure he was gutted. He lost the match and that's that. Nobody's perfect and Djokovic slipped up on occasion as well. That's sport and to those...

Kneissl Silver Arrow - Any information?

Yes, I have all four models (with 3 Competitions, one still unstrung), but have only played with the Competition, which does indeed play very nicely. It seems pretty soft to me. And yes, it does attract attention! And I've never tried to hit a ball cleanly through the throat! :)

Kohlschreiber is using the RF97 black and white

Does that include you? Firstly, I didn't have a clear enough view of his racquet to see the string pattern, secondly a quick Google search doesn't give his racquet details and thirdly, it has been known for players to change their gear. And not that it matters really, but I'm a "her" not a...

The RF97 is available in New Zealand from a few local retailers, but I tried to buy one from TW (both in the USA and Australia) plus another Australian retailer (because it was on special) and was told that Wilson would not allow it.
